The CTI 3D Giant Theater is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. At present, we have a total of 27 assistive listening devices. Nine of these devices (Captiview) provide closed captions. We also have 18 devices that enhance the volume for those visitors with hearing issues and those devices are also designed to provide a descriptive narrative of on screen actions on an additional audio channel. At the present, not all of the documentary movies we have shown in the theater have been digitally encoded by the documentary movie distributor with the necessary codes for the Captiview closed caption device and the DoReMi descriptive narrative capabilities. We have been informed that in the near future more documentary movies are being encoded with closed caption viewer Captiview and the DoReMi descriptive narrative features. The theater provides hearing impaired customers with a copy of the movie’s script with a red flashlight, for low light level reading. Customers in need of these devices should call our reservations number, (901)636-2362, so that we can make appropriate accommodations to serve their needs.

Mallory-Neely, a Fresh New Look This season is a perfect time to visit, or re-visit, the Mallory-Neely House. Staff and volunteers have been working diligently to freshen up the house. Most people think of the house as a nineteenth century relic. However, the house was a residence up until the mid-seventies (including caretakers) and the presentation of its wonderful rooms and artifacts requires constant refreshing. Volunteers have been hanging curtains after the window project, beautifying the grounds, enhancing the lighting, and gathering new family history.

PINK PALACE BLOG Search Our Collection! The Memphis Pink Palace Museum has roughly 84,000 objects in our collection, of which 10-15% are on display. That means that there are tens of thousands of objects that regular visitors could not access. Collections registrar, Tammy Braithwaite, is in charge of keeping track of all these artifacts. Over the past year, she has worked to get our collections database available online so that all our visitors can view the objects that we preserve. You can visit our website to look through our collection. New items are frequently being added as we continue photographing the collection. If you click on a specific record, you will be able to see pictures of many other objects. Here are some ideas to get you started: In the cultural history collection, try searching for sports, World War II, Cotton Carnival or silk. For the natural history collection, look for birds. Please enjoy exploring our collection! www.memphismuseums.org

Friends, family and co-workers gathered at the Pink Palace September 30, 2016, to celebrate one of our own (one of our favorites). Mary Matthews is retiring after working for the City of Memphis and the Pink Palace Museum for 48 years! Born, raised, wed and now retired in Memphis, Miss Mary has brought friendship, joy, help and peace to those of us lucky enough to know her. Mary and her husband Otis Alphonso Matthews, Sr., had seven children, who have given them 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. As for her retirement, Miss Mary wants to continue being a blessing to her children and grandchildren, but most of all, just enjoy life. We love you Miss Mary.
