AUTOZONE DOME AT THE SHARPE PLANETARIUM

We Are Aliens! - Opens September 9 Earth. It’s now a small world. The human race is connected better and faster than ever before but what about elsewhere? Could we one day be part of a galactic community sharing our knowledge and ideas? Or is Earth the only planet with life? Narrated by Rupert Grint.

Memphis Solar Eclipse Stamp Unveiling at the Pink Palace The U.S. Postal Service has a new stamp you can change with your fingertip. The new stamp commemorates the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse. This unique stamp changes from total eclipse to full moon from the heat of a finger. Memphis Postmaster Reginald Capers, along with other U.S. Postal Service employees, unveiled the stamp in a special ceremony August 9 in the AutoZone Dome at the Sharpe Planetarium. “These amazing stamps use thermochromic ink so everyone will get to experience their own personal solar eclipse every time their finger touches the stamps,” said Reginald Capers, Memphis Postmaster. “Once you remove your finger, the eclipse reappears.” Memphis City Councilman Martavius Jones attended the ceremony and honored Director of Museums Steve Pike and Postmaster Capers with Certificates of Recognition from the City of Memphis, in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to our community (pictured above). After the unveiling, USPS folks stayed to sell the 49-cent Solar Eclipse stamps in the Pink Palace lobby. Oenophiles, as well as eclipse enthusiasts, received a surprise bonus with their stamp purchases…a special Pink Palace Eclipse Station cancellation postmark.
