Dear fans:
O
n behalf of the devoted team here at Green Savoree Toronto and Green Savoree Racing Promotions, welcome to the 2022 Honda Indy Toronto! We are excited to be back on the streets of Toronto with this summer festival after a two-year hiatus and celebrating all things motorsports with you. We promise a full three days of action-packed competition and a little something for everyone headlined Friday by the Grand Prix of Toronto featuring stock car action of the Nascar Pinty's Series and Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES Honda Indy Toronto. We are delighted to have the Porsche Carrera Cup North American, Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, Indy Pro 2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires, and new to the streets of Toronto, the Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin. Off the track, it continues to be a truly family friendly experience. This year we expanded on the success of our kid's club dubbed the ‘Honda Indy Toronto Rookie Racers' for the youngest Honda Indy Toronto fans, 12 and under. Enjoy Thunder Alley that features tons of interactive activities including merchandise booths, world-class food trucks, beer gardens and much more! We proudly continue to support Make-A-Wish Canada® with Honda Fan Friday, brought to you by your Ontario Honda Dealers. The event in its 11th year has raised over $820,000 since the start of this initiative in 2010. It takes over 400 volunteers to keep the Honda Indy Toronto running smoothly each year, and we thank each and every one of you, new and returning, for your commitment to the success of this racing festival. This event would not be possible without the support of our partners, especially Honda Canada, the City of Toronto, Province of Ontario and Exhibition Place. These relationships have helped us to grow over the years, and strive to improve the fan experience at the Honda Indy Toronto. Last, but certainly not least, to our fans and festival goers - thank you for once again joining us at the Honda Indy Toronto. We hope that you have a fun and enjoyable weekend, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Dear INDYCAR fans:
W
elcome to the return of the Honda Indy Toronto, a fan-favorite race on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar that’s been missed the last two years. INDYCAR is committed to delivering a comprehensive fan experience through outstanding entertainment and competition as our athletes defy all obstacles presented by Exhibition Place’s challenging, 2.874-km road course. Whether this is your first INDYCAR SERIES race weekend or you have been attending races here for years, we are excited for you to witness the spectacle of the sport here in Toronto. This weekend has a vibe like few others, so we urge you to take in as much as possible and enjoy it all. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has the most diverse lineup of tracks in motorsports, with superspeedways, short ovals, temporary street circuits like the one here in Toronto and picturesque road couses. The collection makes for a true proving ground as elite athletes compete for the most challenging championship in motorsports. The car used this weekend is one of a kind, featuring a sleek look with the most advanced safety components available. Honda and Chevrolet provide the 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engines, and no tire manufacturer can match Firestone for reliability and competitiveness. You likely will notice INDYCAR’s revolutionary driver-protection aeroscreen that debuted on all cars in 2020. The look of these cars is reminiscent of INDYCAR SERIES favorites of the 1980s and ‘90s, and driver skill is paramount as the low-downforce machines slip and slide on this challenging road course. Trust me when I say you will be able to see how hard the drivers must work to achieve maximum speed. You should find that the NTT INDYCAR SERIES offers some of the most daring and defiant athletes in all of sports, including reigning series champion Alex Palou, young and emerging stars like Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta, Canadian drivers Dalton Kellett and Devlin DeFrancesco and Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson. The rising talents of the sport, such as Linus Lundqvist, Benjamin Pedersen, Christian Rasmussen, Sting Ray Robb and Ernie Francis Jr., will be showcased in thrilling, competitive Indy Lights action. While in this beautiful city, we invite you to download the INDYCAR App powered by NTT DATA on your smartphone to get behind-the-scenes driver features, live timing and scoring, in-car cameras and more information to help you follow the action. Also, follow the NTT INDYCAR SERIES online at INDYCAR.com, on Facebook and on Twitter (@INDYCAR), and keep track of Indy Lights at indylights.com, on Facebook (@IndyLightsOfficial) and on Twitter (@IndyLights). Thank you for your continued support. INDYCAR appreciates your attendance this weekend. We are glad you can experience the speed, action and excitement that defines the series. Enjoy the weekend!

ricsson crossed the iconic Yard of Bricks to win the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge just after 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday May 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Immediately, the spoils of victory set in. He rose atop Victory Podium, took a long drink of whole milk and celebrated with his No. 8 Huski Chocolate Chip Ganassi Racing Honda team. Then, he did a lap in the Pace Car around the famed 2.5-mile oval to greet the fans and met his team at the Yard of Bricks for the kissing of the bricks. After that, the long hours really began to set in: A live interview on SportsCenter, five local Indianapolis TV station interviews, a 40-minute press conference in the Dex Imaging Media Center at IMS, a Firestone obligation and more motorsports press. After dinner with family and longtime sponsors, Ericsson said by the time he got back to his motorhome parked in the IMS infield early Monday morning,
he couldn’t sleep. His girlfriend Iris woke up at 2 a.m. to Ericsson rewatching the race that just hours earlier changed his life forever. The Swedish racing star finally fell asleep around 3 a.m., but he was awake within two hours partially because he couldn’t sleep, and partially because his day-after obligations were about to begin. “It’s just … it’s amazing,” Ericsson said. “I’m struggling to sort of take it all in and realize that it actually happened. I’m sort of struggling to believe it. “It’s been pretty crazy since the checkered flag. It’s been super hectic. I couldn’t sleep. I went to bed, and I was just too excited to sleep. I’m exhausted, but I can’t relax.” Overnight after his win, Ericsson, from Kumla, Sweden, received a special congratulatory message from Carl XVI Gustaf, better known as the King of Sweden. A well-known racing fan and someone who has attended Formula One races with Ericsson before, the King sent a note to Ericsson’s manager offering his praise for winning
“The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” “It’s amazing,” Ericsson said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to meet him a few times, and I know he’s a huge racing fan. But still, it’s very special. It’s the King of Sweden, so for me, that means so much to hear from him. I’m so happy and thankful.” Ericsson’s hectic Monday began with an 8:15 a.m. radio interview, followed by a meet and greet with Jostens – the company that makes the coveted Indy 500 winner’s ring. From there, he had a photoshoot for BorgWarner so that sculptor Will Behrends could begin prepping his likeness for the Borg-Warner Trophy, where Ericsson’s historic accomplishment will live on forever. After that, he moved on to a two-hour photoshoot with his race-winning car, the Borg-Warner Trophy, winner’s wreath and the entirety of Chip Ganassi Racing on the Yard of Bricks. Ericsson received a standing ovation when he arrived at the photoshoot, something that doesn’t happen often. From there, sponsors, organizations, family, friends and more lined up next to Ericsson to commemorate his historic win. Team owner Chip Ganassi took it to the next level, ensuring that every Chip Ganassi Racing employee, even those from the four other cars he entered in the Indianapolis 500, got a picture with Ericsson to celebrate the organization’s first Indy 500 win in a decade. The photoshoot hadn’t come close to ending yet,

and Ericsson requested a cup of tea. After 16 hours of cheering, screaming and “thank you’s,” Ericsson was losing his voice. He had four more hours of interviews to go, as well as the Indy 500 Victory Celebration that night in downtown Indianapolis. Finally, the tea arrived, as did a quick bite for lunch before he moved on to interviews with IndyStar, Associated Press, The Race, NBC Sports, USA Today, a virtual meet and greet with INDYCAR Nation fan club members and more. Through it all, or through what hasn’t blended together, Ericsson said his favorite moment from the 24 hours that come after winning the largest singleday sporting event in the world was one of the Indy 500 traditions unlike any other in sports. “Kissing the bricks with the whole team, that was super cool,” he said. “It’s a bit strange to kiss the
bricks, right? But it was really, really cool.” The fun didn’t stop at the Indy 500 Victory Celebration at the JW Marriott, where Ericsson received the largest Indy 500 winner’s payout in history at $3.1 million. Immediately after the event was over, he boarded a private jet and headed to New York City to continue the victory celebration and landed around 2 a.m. ET on Tuesday, May 31. His first stop was a unique and rare opportunity: The Swedish racing star rang the bell to open Nasdaq trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The iconic bell ringing ceremony in Times Square is an exclusive opportunity reserved for only the best people, brands and organizations in the country to allow them to celebrate achievements and milestones before a global audience. The bell ringing cer-
emony was livestreamed, and Ericsson took part in a Nasdaq studio interview afterward. “I’m honored to have been at the Nasdaq,” Ericsson said. “Winning the Indy 500 is a dream come true, and it means so much more that all our fans were able to attend ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.’ The Nasdaq is a hub for innovation and discovery. We view racing and INDYCAR in the same way, so it’s fitting to be here after the Indy 500.” Much like his Monday was spent after winning the Indianapolis 500, Ericsson had many press interviews, including for Fox Sports, Road & Track and a Sirius XM studio visit. In between those interviews, Ericsson, 31, was invited to the Empire State Building to celebrate his historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway win at another iconic location. Ericsson, adorned in his winner’s wreath, took in the breath-

taking views of Manhattan from the top of the famous skyscraper and snapped some memorable photos. “We got to go to the top of the Empire State Building and see its incredible

views,” he said. “We were on the top floor – the secret floor – so don’t tell anyone.” The massive opportunities to see incredible and iconic locations, just like the famed 2.5-mile oval he won on just days ago, continued Tuesday night. Ericsson went to the Bronx and Yankee Stadium as a guest of the New York Yankees – one of baseball’s most famous teams. Ericsson threw the ceremonial first pitch before the game and watched as the Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels, 9-1. He also received a commemorative New York Yankees jersey featuring his name and No. 8 – just like his NTT INDYCAR SERIES car. “What an amazing day in New York City,” Ericsson said. “Sunday was the best day of my life, and today definitely makes the
top five. I’m loving every second of it.” As he gets back to an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekend, Ericsson’s life will slow down ever so slightly as Indy 500 winner’s commitments subside. Eventually, though, he’ll get back in the swing of it with the unveiling of the 2023 Indianapolis 500 ticket, Gate 2 banner, Borg-Warner Trophy and more that he will be featured on as the defending winner of the largest single-day sporting event in the world. After all, once you win the Indianapolis 500, the gifts and commitments just keep on coming.

There are few things that Honda driver Jimmie Johnson has yet to accomplish in his spectacular racing career, but he’s about to check another “first” off that list. Johnson will race in Canada for the first time at the Honda Indy Toronto. “I’ve never raced in Canada, and I’m really looking forward to that,” Johnson said. “It’s been so widely loved by everybody in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES so I’m excited to get there and experience it myself. “I’ve only been to Canada a few times in my life, to go fishing in British Columbia. I would fish anything that I could from abalone to salmon. My grandparents would go up there and fish all the time, and I would go visit them in the summer. Now, I’m very excited to return behind the wheel of a race car.” Johnson is one of the greatest stock car drivers in history. In 2020, he concluded a NASCAR career that includes seven
NASCAR Cup Series championships and 84 victories, including four wins in the Brickyard 400 and two in the Daytona 500. He made the bold move to switch to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and join Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021 in the No. 48 Carvana/ American Legion Honda. The streets of Toronto is the last track on the INDYCAR schedule that Johnson will race on for the first time in his career. The Honda Indy Toronto was not held in 2020, Johnson’s final year in NASCAR, or in 2021 because of COVID. To prepare for the track, Johnson has immersed himself in videos from past races and talking to his teammates. He will use the Honda Performance Development simulator in Brownsburg, Indiana the week before heading to the race. Toronto also will be the biggest city that Johnson has ever raced in. In his two years since joining INDYCAR, Johnson has feasted on the experience. This past May, he won the 2022

you are going 230 miles per hour. It’s the biggest rush of all time.” Johnson found the fast lane and lived out an Indianapolis 500 dream that began when he was a youngster, sitting on the couch with his grandfather and father. “I have many vague memories being very young watching it on television,” Johnson recalled. “My grandfather was a Foyt fan. I always had a tie towards Rick Mears because he grew up in California and raced motorcycles and off-road so there was an attachment there. Robby Gordon for similar reasons. Johnson was eager to learn when he hit the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but he also was surprised at how much he already knew. He had developed a knack and rhythm for the oval in the No. 48 Chevrolet stock car for Hendrick Motorsports as a four-time Brickyard 400 winner. “It's definitely different, but I feel like the more seat time I get, the more I gain confidence in myself and understanding the car and then certainly understanding changes,” Johnson said. “I've had a few ‘aha moments’ where I think adjustments have crossed over from what I would do with a Cup car here setup-wise to the Indy car. “I'm still very new to it all but gaining experience and gaining confidence in what I'm feeling, gaining confidence in what I'm looking for, and gaining confidence in the adjustments we're making on the car.” Johnson’s ability to get up to speed, and then run consistent laps, has impressed Johnson’s team owner. “His is just a nice curve of improvement,” Ganassi said of Johnson. “I think more importantly, just a nice -- you can tell by talking to Jimmie at the end of the day or whatever that he seems to be very comfortable in the car and no surprises. “I think that's the best any car owner could ask for is, when you're talking to your drivers at the end of the day, they're not amped up or nervous or talking in a high tone of voice or talking really quickly or down and out or something. They seem very comfortable and calm. Johnson was already a star, long before he ever retired from NASCAR after the 2020 season. That star power earned him a large follow of spectators that wanted to catch a glimpse of him with his helmet off at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Award for his outstanding performance throughout the month of May leading into the 106th Indianapolis 500. In the Fast 12 practice session on the final day of qualifications, Johnson was third with a four-lap average of 233.261 mph in the No. 48 Carvana/American Legion Honda. Not bad for a 46-year-old rookie. “It makes me laugh when I hear that, but I’ll take it,” Johnson said. “Honestly, I still feel like a rookie on the street and road courses. I’m starting from such a low spot compared to these other formula drivers and their journey to Indy car. I feel like I’m being thrown into the deep end of the pool on those courses.” He was also fast on Carb Day, but unfortunately on Race Day, he was unable to advance from his 12th starting position. Johnson actually led a lap in the race with 12 laps to go, but that was before his final pit stop. After that stop, he was cycled back in the field before he was lost control of the car and crashed into the Turn 2 wall with six laps to go in the race. Johnson was surprised by the honor because of his finish in the race. He had many great memories through the month and summed up his race day experience. “The racer in me wishes I had a more competitive day and wished I hadn’t crashed at the end and brought out the red flag and put the 8 team (Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson) through all of that,” Johnson said. “I’m letting in as much as I can, but I will forever have these memories of how special it is to be on that grid, be part of the opening ceremonies, turning down Turn 4 and see that tunnel of all the fans, it’s a sea of people with all the color, then the next time you come through there

“I think I've been well received, and I've had quite a few fans come up to me and say they've never been to an IndyCar race before and this is their first experience, so that makes me happy knowing we're bringing more fans to this awesome sport,” Johnsons said. “But man, I hope that the actions on track create a lot of excitement. I hope to be fast. “I hope to be a contender in all this, and whatever wave of excitement that comes with it, I welcome it.” When the Month of May was completed, Johnson was able to properly analyze his first Indy 500. “It was an amazing experience,” Johnson said. “I certainly know a lot more about the race and how to help myself in the race. Pit road was ultimately an issue for me. We made a pit stop and then a caution came out. As I made a little track position after that issue, I slipped through my pit box and lost it all again. “Those were two key moments in the race on top of the fact that in practice sessions in those long lines, I didn’t create a car that could drive in that environment. We didn’t really think the race would play out that way and tried to avoid those 20-car lines to find the 2 and 3 car lines to create passes.

After competing on the streets of Detroit and beautiful Road America in June, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES opened July at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, home of the Honda Indy 200. A one-week break followed and now it’s on to the streets of Toronto, where Johnson gets to achieve another “first” in his career. “There are so many great things about INDYCAR, I think these markets are unique and amazing, especially city street racing and putting it into major areas in North America,” Johnson said. “I love the diversity of the tracks and I love the diversity of our fan base. “It really is a change of pace from my NASCAR days and one that I’m embracing and really like.”

everal off-season announcements signaled a return to normalcy, stability and long-term potential for the series, including a traditional cross-country schedule, the addition of two new race tracks and a five-year extension with series entitlement partner Pinty’s Delicious Foods. For the first time since 2019, the series is set to run a 13-race countrywide schedule. The 2021 season was limited to six tracks in Ontario and Quebec due to pandemic-

related challenges. The 2020 championship season was cut short and replaced by a six-race Pinty’s Fan Cave Challenge held over three weekends. “It was important for us to return to a traditional-
looking schedule for the 2022 season,” said NASCAR Touring Series Managing Director Brandon Igdalsky in December, when NASCAR released the schedule. “We want to bring the exciting, side-by-

side racing of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series to our fans across Canada and have appreciated their patience as we navigated the past two seasons.” In addition to traditional Pinty’s Series races in Toronto and the Western Swing (Edmonton and Saskatoon), the series will make its long-awaited dirt debut at Ohsweken Speedway on Aug. 16. The race was originally introduced as part of the 2020 schedule prior to the pandemicrelated consolidations.
In April, NASCAR officials announced the series would race at Eastbound International Speedway in Newfoundland and Labrador, the series’ first trip to the province. The race – and partnership between NASCAR and the Newfoundland and Labrador Depatrment of Tourism – was an overwhelming success, attracting thousands of fans to St. John’s as part of the province’s Come Home 2022 festivities. That announcement was followed shortly by official confirmation by NASCAR and Pinty’s officials of a five-year extension for naming rights for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. “Pinty’s has been a tremendous partner as we work together to grow racing in Canada,” said Chad Seigler, NASCAR Vice President, International Business Development. “Their commitment to both the racing industry and the fan experience has elevated the NASCAR Pinty’s Series over the past six years. “The future is bright for NASCAR in Canada, and this continued partnership will further increase fan interest and the competition level in Canada’s premier racing series.”

EARLY SEASON LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
With nearly one-third of the season underway, the off-season excitement has translated to on-track thrills. A look at some of the top Pinty’s Series storylines heading into the stretch of the season:
• Marc-Antoine Camirand (No. 96 Chevrolet) has emerged as the early championship favorite leading the most laps on each of the three oval races held so far. He led 203 of 252 in the season opener at Sunset Speedway before an incident in Overtime dropped him to fourth. Despite leading 92 laps at Autodrome Chaudiere he finished runner-up to GM Paille teammate Andrew Ranger (No. 27 Chevrolet). Camirand finally found Victory Lane in Newfoundland, leading 138 laps en route to the PRO LINE 225 win. He leads the point standings by 10 points over Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 Dodge) and Gary Klutt (No. 59 Dodge).
• New faces have emerged as real threats to win races and the Pinty’s Series championship. Eighteen-year-old Treyten Lapcevich (No. 20 Chevrolet) stole the show at Sunset, claiming victory after Camirand took out Raphael Lessard (No. 8 Chevrolet) in the overtime period. Lapcevich, the younger brother of 2016 series champion Cayden Lapcevich, finished second at Eastbound and currently sits fifth in the standings. Two-time APC champion Brandon Watson (No. 9 Chevrolet) has impressed early for Wight Motorsports, leading laps in two of the four races and finishing inside the top five twice. Gary Klutt is back competing full-time for the first time since 2016 and hasn’t missed a beat. Klutt has finished seventh or better in all four races.
• The changing of the guard atop the standings has left many series veterans with work to do. Defending champion L.P. Dumoulin (No. 47 Dodge) has started from the pole twice but only has one top five to show for it. A wreck at Eastbound dropped him to eighth in the standings. Series legend D.J. Kennington (No. 17 Dodge) started off slow with two 11th-place finishes, but has bounced back with consecutive podiums. Alex Tagliani (No. 18 Chevrolet) suffered a series of incidents at Eastbound dropping him to seventh in the standings. Tagliani has two Toronto wins (2016 and 2019).
• Kevin Lacroix has come close to winning the championship several times, finishing runnerup in 2017 and 2019. And while he currently sits second, Lacroix has shown he has the speed – and drive – to win it all. His CTMP win was classic Lacroix, using an aggressive move in the final corner to capture the win.

A TWO-HORSE RACE?
A MAGNIFICENT TUSSLE IS DEVELOPING IN THIS YEAR’S COOPER TIRES USF2000 CHAMPIONSHIP. MYLES ROWE MOVED TO THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS FOLLOWING A STELLAR WEEKEND AT MID-OHIO TWO WEEKS AGO FOR PABST RACING, BUT CAPE MOTORSPORTS’ MICHAEL D’ORLANDO CURRENTLY LIES ONLY EIGHT POINTS BEHIND WITH FIVE RACES REMAINING, INCLUDING THIS WEEKEND’S COOPER TIRES GRAND PRIX OF TORONTO DOUBLEHEADER.

t stake is a champion’s scholarship valued at $406,925 to ensure graduation onto the next step of the Road to Indy open-wheel development ladder, the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, in 2023. The older of two d’Orlando brothers from Hartsdale, N.Y., in this weekend’s field has established his credentials over the past few seasons. He finished second in the 2021 title-chase with three wins to his name and an impressive streak of four consecutive pole positions to conclude his campaign.
“There is a lot of pressure there, but (this is) my third (full) year in USF2000 and obviously I’m going to go for the championship,” said d’Orlando. “I was close last year – I was the only one that could have won it at the last race weekend (aside from eventual champion Kiko Porto) and I’m going for gold, shooting for the stars.” D’Orlando has continued that momentum by claiming three wins and 10 top-five finishes from the opening 13 races. But he has
been unable to shake off Rowe, from New York, N.Y., who scored a memorable maiden win last year at New Jersey Motorsports Park in tricky wet-dry conditions with the new Force Indy team but has matured immensely with guidance from the wealth of experience available at Pabst Racing.

Fast but a little wayward in the early part of his sophomore campaign, Rowe has now strung together a sequence of six consecutive podium finishes, including a pair of wins at Mid-Ohio. The championship seems to be distilling into a straightforward battle between Rowe and d’Orlando, although their respective teammates, Jace Denmark and Jagger Jones, both of whom, coincidentally, hail from Scottsdale, Ariz., are poised to strike if opportunity knocks. Denmark also has shone with a pair of wins and three consecutive podium results, while Jones, the 19-year-old grandson of 1963 Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones, has emerged as the top rookie, with one victory to his name, after making the switch from the junior levels of stock car racing. An extremely competitive field will include only one Canadian, Thomas Nepveu, from Oka, Que. Nepveu scored one win as a rookie in 2021 and is excited to make a return to home soil this weekend with DEForce Racing, which

“The championship seems to be distilling into a straightforward battle between Rowe and d’Orlando” guided Brazilian Kiko Porto to the 2021 championship. The Texas-based team also will field Tatuus USF-22s for fellow second-year drivers Dylan Christie, from Princeton, N.J., and Bijoy Garg, from Atherton, Calif. Other potential contenders include New Zealander Billy Frazer, who is surely
on the cusp of his first win after snaring six podium results for the Canadianowned Exclusive Autosport team, and young Australian Lochie Hughes, who earned a top-five finish during his debut weekend recently at Mid-Ohio with the Jay Howard Driver Development team.

nglish rookie Louis Foster has marked himself as a firm favorite to secure this year’s extraordinarily competitive Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and earn himself a scholarship valued at almost $615,000 to graduate into Indy Lights, the final step on the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires ladder, in 2023. Seven drivers representing five different teams have earned victories during the opening 12 races of the season, and all seven competing teams have recorded at least one podium finish. But Foster and the Canadian-owned Exclusive Autosport
team have parlayed a streak of consistent results, including a win and a secondplace finish two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio, to open up a 49-point advantage. Only six races remain in the 18-race season, starting with this weekend’s L&W Supply Grand Prix of Toronto double-header. Foster, who hails from Basingstoke, England, but is now based in Los Angeles, Calif., gained extensive open-wheel experience in Europe before resetting his career goals this year toward a future in North America. He used that knowledge to excellent effect, gaining podium finishes in three of his first four races before securing a breakthrough maiden

Ahmed, the 2017 British Formula 3 Champion, posted a particularly impressive drive recently at Road America, where he stormed from last on the grid to fourth. Braden Eves (Jay Howard Driver Development) and Josh Green (Turn 3 Motorsport) also are in the thick of the title fight, with Brazilian Kiko Porto (DEForce Racing), last year’s USF2000 Cooper Tires Championship winner, and Salvador De Alba (JHDD), a former stock car exponent in his native Mexico, similarly in contention after strong performances in recent races. All four have won once thus far. Jack William Miller, from Carmel, Ind., also has been closing in on his maiden victory after snagging a pair of poles and podiums in his Miller Vinatieri Motorsports entry, which has benefitted from a recent technical alliance with Exclusive Autosport.

The next seven drivers are separated by just 41 points, with 30 points on offer for each race win, plus additional markers for pole position, fastest race lap and leading most laps. Reece Gold, from Miami, Fla., holds second place in the points table for Juncos Hollinger Racing with two wins. Gold has earned a reputation as an impressive qualifier after securing no fewer than eight Cooper Tires Pole Awards over the course of the past season and a half, placing him sixth on the all-time list, only three behind 2012 series champion Jack Hawksworth. Fellow teenager Nolan Siegel (DEForce Racing), from Palo Alto, Calif., also won twice this year but lies just nine points ahead of Gold’s teammate, London, England-raised Pakistani Enaam Ahmed, who has yet to claim a breakthrough victory

PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA Presented by the Cayman Islands Makes Canadian Debut
T
Photography by Porsche
he Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands will make its Canadian debut this weekend at the Indy Toronto. Since its introduction in 2021, the championship has become the premier one-make series in the world regularly drawing the largest fields of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, type 992, race cars on the globe. While the series is in its second season of competition, it is the first time the threeclasses that make Carrera Cup have been able to cross the border to fulfill its North American title. The twin 40-minute races will take to the streets of Toronto on Saturday, July 16 and just prior to the IndyCar feature event on Sunday, July 17. Acting as a steppingstone between lower division one-makes like the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama and full-professional racing like IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD and GTD Pro competition, Carrera Cup offers competitors a chance to race the newest Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car on Michelin
tires on a domestic stage. With eyes from the next level of professional racing watching, drivers compete on a level playing field where all have the same Porsche 911 GT3 road car-based machine and MICHELIN® Pilot® Sport Cup N3 racing slicks. The second season of the championship will host 16-rounds at eight venues across the United States and Canada. Each 40-minute race will count toward a season-long driver and team championship in each of three classes: Pro, Pro-Am and Am. All drivers can contend for overall class victories. The Pro-Am class is eligible for “Gentlemen” drivers – a driver who does not make a primary profession of automobile racing. The Am class, new for 2022, is only open to drivers who are 57 years-old or older. All drivers age 23 and under enjoy the additional benefit of inclusion in the Porsche Junior Program North America. As a “Junior”, drivers receive valuable training tools for those wishing to make a career of professional motorsport. A driver will be selected from the Porsche Junior Program

North America to represent the region in the annual Porsche Junior Shootout in Europe at the end of the year. In 2021, overall and Pro class Champion Seb Priaulx and runner-up Kay van Berlo were both awarded that honor. The Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands is one of 21 Porsche one-make championships competing in 31 countries on five continents. It becomes the tenth Carrera Cup worldwide. Each race will enjoy live streaming accessible through the IMSA app and Porsche Motorsport North America web page (www. PorscheCarreraCup.us) with commentary by John Hindhaugh and the IMSA Radio broadcast team. All races are quickly posted to the Porsche Motorsport North America YouTube channel following the checkered flag. The original Carrera Cup concept was founded in 1990 with the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland (Germany). One year later, France had its own one-make championship. By 1993, with the opportunity to race from within the Formula 1 paddock, Porsche Supercup was created. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup remains the highest single make series globally utilizing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car. A fourth Carrera Cup was added in 2001 when Japan began its own series. 2003 saw further growth of the concept with the addition of Great Britain, Australia and an overall Asia championship coming online. One year later, Carrera Cup Scandinavia was added into the mix while Brazil and Italy debuted the following two years. Since 2007, those nine regional Carrera Cups have been part of the global Porsche Motorsport Pyramid funneling the very best of their champions to Porsche Mobil Supercup and into professional sports car and GT racing. It was anticipated that the series would launch the stars of tomorrow, the heirs to the throne of international sports car racing. That has proven true with inaugural season champion Priaulx, runner-up van Berlo and Dylan Murry each contending in January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona. Murry finished sixthplace overall, second-place in the LMP2 class, as the highest finisher in the standings. Last year’s Kelly-Moss Road and Race teammates van Berlo and Priaulx finished 1 – 2 in competing LMP3 entries with van Berlo capturing the coveted Rolex watch. With the addition of Michelin tires,
the Porsche Carrera Cup North America stays in lock-step with Carrera Cups run around the globe, each of which utilizes the official Porsche Motorsport partner to support competitive and consistent racing. Michelin and Porsche have enjoyed a successful partnership in both motorsports and production vehicles for decades, with the French premium tire brand and the German sports car manufacturer working hand-in-hand since 1961. It is a partnership that has repeatedly produced sensational supercars, championship seasons and world record lap times in both race car and production cars. In North American motorsports, Michelin has partnered with Porsche in more than 120 sports car racing wins. Entering this weekend, van Berlo leads the Pro class championship in the No. 3 Kelly Moss Porsche ahead of Canada’s own Parker Thompson. Thompson, who lives in Red Deer, Alberta, has driven the No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche to two victories and to within 47 points of van Berlo. Alan Metni’s Kelly Moss-prepared Porsche leads the Pro-Am category while Mark Kvamme holds the Am class points lead entering the second-half of the season. In addition to Thompson, two other Canadians are entered to face the challenge of Indy Toronto. Thomas Collingwood will travel from St. John’s Alberta to pilot the No. 69 BGB Motorsports Porsche while local Toronto-resident Marco Cirone will face him in the Pro-Am class with the No. 84 Mark Motorsports Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

SPORTS CAR CHAMPIONSHIP CANADA PRESENTED BY MICHELIN
CANADIAN RACE SERIES BRINGING EXCITEMENT TO THE STREETS OF TORONTO
I
n the cold of winter in January 2021, FEL Motorsports of St. Catharines, Ontario, heated up Canadian Motorsports with its announcement of a new sports car racing series with two distinct car classes. Thus, the Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) presented by Michelin was created for the 2021 season to the delight of race teams, drivers and fans. The SCCC quickly became the leading sports car championship in Canada. A national championship combining two internationally recognized classes
– TCR and GT4. The race series, organized and promoted by FEL Motorsports, consists of twelve races over six race weekends. Each race weekend includes practice, qualifying and two 40-minute sprint races. Three podium winners from each class awarded points each race from 1st to 10th place. There are fourteen competitors currently registered in the TCR class and seven competing drivers in the GT4 class. The TCR (touring car) class showcases worldrenowned TCR touring cars from manufacturers such as Hyundai, Audi, VW
and Honda with comparable horsepower that are required to meet strict homologated (standardized) parts in the touring car class. FEL Motorsports, with the support of IMSA, has signed a three-year deal with World Sporting Consulting (WSC) for a coveted TCR licence in Canada from 2022 to 2024, bringing the Sports Car Championship Canada into the global racing community. The GT4 class, licensed by SRO Motorsports Group, features high-performance sports cars, including Mercedes, Ford and Porsche, which are also regulated under homologation standards. “The SCCC series has some of Canada’s most successful sports car teams competing for prizes and money,” says Chris Bye, President of FEL Motorsports. “Our primary focus has been on giving back to the teams and drivers through prizing, which includes sets of tires, fuel and cash prizes every weekend, thereby offering excellent value and support. “I’m excited that race fans at the Honda Indy Toronto will get to see these Canadian sports car drivers racing the same circuit as some of the most famous names in motorsports as they share the weekend with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES,” he added. The TCR class has neck and neck competition heading into round three of the SCCC series at the Honda Indy Toronto with TRC Motorsport teammates Jerimy Daniel, sponsored by FIX Auto, and JeanFrancois Hevey each tied for 1st place with 75 points driving Audi RS3s. 3rd place with 54 points each are Ron Tomlinson and Richard Boake. Tomlinson drives the number 48 TWOth Autosport 2022 Audi RS3 sponsored by Tomlinson Motorsports, and Boake drives the number 84 Blanchet Motorsports 2017 Audi RS3 sponsored by Blanchet Motorsports, Rheem Canada and Betz Pools. Battling for the top driver standing in the GT4 class are Zachary Vanier with 80 points, followed closely in second by Charles Robin with 70 points. Vanier drives the number 9 Pfaff Motorsports 2019 McLaren 570s sponsored by Technica Mining, and Robin drives the number 56 Rilli Racing 2020 Mercedes AMG sponsored by SH Karting, SODI. Behind the scenes, FEL Motorsports is working with Operation Motorsport (OpMo) to assist in finding placements for our military veterans within the FEL Motorsports community. The OpMo initiative is part of a North American project with organizations in Canada and the U.S., providing retired military veterans, medically releasing service members and disabled military veterans with support and placements in motorsport communities. Two current SCCC teams, TWOth Autosport and RIlli Racing,
have already partnered with OpMo. FEL Motorsports also has a charitable partnership with Canadian Blood Services. It is working closely with Canadian Blood Services to help drive awareness and raise both financial and blood donations. “Candidly, the idea of getting behind Canadian Blood Services came largely from the horrific crash of Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” says Bye, “where he had his femoral artery severed and required 22 units of blood while on his way to the hospital – twice the total amount that a body holds. If not for blood donors, James would not be with us today. It is James’ work with his Stop & Go Foundation that drove us in the direction of Canadian Blood Services, and we are extremely happy to do our small part.” FEL Motorsports is a newly formed division of FEL that has more than three decades of experience in the automotive event and sales training industry. By combining the expertise gained from working with leading automotive brands with some of Canada’s most experienced motorsports personnel, FEL Motorsports’ mission
is to execute premium race event weekends at race tracks in Ontario and Quebec. The FEL Motorsports division was created with the vision and promise of giving back to the Canadian motorsports community including teams and drivers, industry partners, and fans. Dedicated to providing immense value for the series competitors, over $25,000 in cash and prize value was awarded in 2021. FEL Motorsports also aired three of the 12 races on TSN in 2021 and will be airing five of 12 races in 2022 (all of which can be viewed on the FEL Motorsports YouTube channel.) Race fans will be able to see more SCCC racing August 5-6 at the annual Grand Prix de TroisRivières, August 20-21 at the Calabogie Summer Classic at Calabogie Motorsports Park, and September 3-4 at the Labour Day Weekend Sprints at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. FEL Motorsports is also the race promoter of the popular Emzone Radical Cup Canada (Emzone RCC) presented by Michelin race series which features purpose-built, high-performance race cars designed to deliver exciting wheel-towheel competition. There are 21 Emzone RCC competitors registered for the 2022 race season with upcoming races July 23-24 at the BARC/CASC Regional Races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 20-21 at the Calabogie Summer Classic at Calabogie Motorsports Park, and September 3-4 at the Labour Day Weekend Sprints at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

“Be prepared to be amazed at our flagship store. Boasting over 15,000 square feet of immaculately designed retail space. A continuation of our epic journey in Tableware, Home Décor and Gourmet Kitchenware excellence!”
Bone china is the ideal choice for everyday dining as a result of its superior strength. In fact, more and more of the leading tableware designers, such as Jasper Conran, are including white bone china choices in their collections due to the increasing popularity of using bone china for everyday use.
The durability of bone china is a characteristic that often goes unnoticed, until of course you perch a Honda Indy Car on four bone china teacups! That’s an astounding 387 lbs supported on each teacup (a total of 1,548 lbs supported on four teacups). The message is loud and clear. Contrary to popular belief, bone china is the world’s strongest body of dinnerware. Bone china was first introduced in England in 1794 by Josiah Spode, the founder of Spode China. Josiah’s goal at the
Bone china is actually a misnomer, and has probably contributed to the modern day misconception that bone china’s ‘fine-ness’ means it is less durable than its much heavier counterparts – stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. Bone china is the strongest ceramic body produced in the world, and the only kind capable of supporting the weight of a full sized car. Its ability to withstand the rigour of multiple uses, on a daily basis for many years, also means it is not likely to end up in a landfill, making bone china the perfect ‘green’ choice. We can all make a greener choice in our dinnerware by selecting better quality, as opposed to inferior china that is often designed to be disposed of frequently.
