THE SUSTAINING INNOVATION TRAP

RESEARCH METHODS

Ethnographic (contextual rich data) Qualitative (understanding why, not counting what) Empathetic (creating emotional connections) Explorative (asking open-ended questions) Curious (no assumptions, always probing)

QUALITATIVE METHODS

On-location intercept, Embedded observation, Triggered intercept, Self-documentation, Shadowing, Observation, Fixed video, Real-time archaeology, behavioral intervention, Co-design, Prototype testing, Evaluative interview, Reflective journalling, Cultural probe, Sorts, Fiend/Couple group, Contextual interview

REFRAMING

Convergent (aligning on interpretation, prioritizing findings) Opinionated (articulates a point of view, builds case) Opportunistic (points toward a new opportunity or innovation)

COMMUNICATION

Plan Structuring your story Summary framework

In this class I learn to do professional research. Stepping outside and be a good listener, gather in formation without judgement and assumptions. Know how to talk with stranger and gain more empathy. Moreover, make me think much more carefullt and better understanding in Korean Smoker.

FINDING

Disruptive Design Project: Research Topic’ Korean Smoker A group reseach. We dig into Korean male smoker 18-25 years old. To better understand what influence them to smoke and what is their barrior to quit. Focus on how could we change physical context to support them to quit smoking more successfully. I spend 12 weeks fieldwork, include We went to K-town Manhattan, K-town Flushing, Baruch College for interviewing ang observation, reframing, analysing, synthesizing, and translating finding to opportunities.

In this class I get information about the actors and interactions in the ecosystem of social innovation. The spectrum of social entreprenuership and possibility of working in social design. All case study help me connected the theory to reallity, analysing and critical thinking about about pro-con of social business model.

Human and Natural System Design Project: Rules of laws and Urban youth in Bogota - ARTISTIC ISLAND Tacking Rules of Law, This is a group project. We focusing on Youth in Bogota, Columbia who joining Gang and then involve in crime which is 25% of youth population. Artistic Island is a program that provide a opportunity for youth to study in area of interest and have a mentor whom was use to be a gang member.

In this class I learn to translate information, reading from article, my perspective, into a map-visualising. When I learn to map I get better understanding in the contents and see more connection which leads me to found more possibility, opportunities and leverage point to intervenr the system. After this class I think this is a important tools to finding problrm and also communcating to other people.

I gain more empathy by better understand people and finding a way to leaving together peacfully. Fixing my mindset and shifted to thinks about other people more than myself. Learning a bout Trauma, journey of change, Conflict and how to deal with it. The most significants part is acknowledge Dialogue, and facilitation. I get a precious tools for dealing with people and crating goods intentions in society. Practicing mindfulness and selfcompassion. User Flow

Human and Natural System Design Project: Fill My Hole Pim, Maxx,Taeyoung We created a prototype of application for reporting pathhole. By learning from user journey and their experience we we can see a lot of trouble gap as well as opportunities to offer them a better option to make their life easier. Moreover, we found that old-style of reporting pathole is confusing then we adding humor to strat this app. Our ideas is to creataed a pop culture that people can play with pathole and sharing on Facebook which could grab people intention to care about this problem in a awesome way. Like wise, give people a new experienc.
