Servant Stage, a Masonic Village favorite, is returning to our campus this summer with one of their most popular hometown shows. “I’ll Fly Away” features a live folk band, stunning vocalists and beautiful renditions of some of the most famous and inspirational songs ever written. With toe-tapping arrangements of old-time favorites, classic hymns and more, this original tribute to gospel and bluegrass music is sure to be a treat for the ears and a balm for the soul! In keeping with Servant Stage’s mission to make exceptional performances accessible to everyone, they ask for a “pay-what-you-will donation,” if possible. American Tales and Legends

We have all heard the names Johnny Appleseed, Casey Jones, Wild Bill Hickok and Annie Oakley, but do we remember their stories? These and other tales define the American experience that we celebrate around Independence Day. Some of the tales are familiar; many will surprise you. Join Storyteller Dennis Strain as he recounts these memorable stories. This performance will repeat on Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m., in the Keystone Room.

Lower Paxton Township Band

SATURDAY, JULY 8, 3 P.M.

The Lower Paxton Township Variety Band is a 25- to 30-piece big band style jazz band, directed by retired band teacher Jim Milbrand. The group consists of former students who have a high level of commitment and playing proficiency, as well as musicians who are residents of Lower Paxton Township and its surrounding communities. The band’s musical repertoire ranges from big band to current recording artists and all the styles in between. The arrangements are mostly authentic “record” copies of original artists, making the band a favorite in the Harrisburg area. Televised on ch. 956.

During World War II, a hand-picked group of American GI’s undertook a bizarre mission: create a traveling road show of deception on the battlefields of Europe, with the Nazi German Army as their audience. The U.S. 23rd Headquarters Special Troops used inflatable rubber tanks, sound trucks and dazzling performance art to bluff the enemy again and again, often right along the front lines. This little-known unit’s knack for trickery was crucial to Allied success in World War II, but their top-secret mission was kept quiet for nearly 50 years after the war’s end. This PBS Documentary has a run time of 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Winston Churchill was a brilliant statesman, an effective wartime leader and a successful author and artist. This course will address all aspects of his life including his ancestry, education, military career and his successes and failures in political office. The last few lectures will analyze him from his critics’ perspective and the legacy he leaves behind. Join us for a series of DVD lectures on this topic. Civilizations have been brewing beer for approximately 8,000 years. Throughout that history, many different styles of beer have emerged, yet the basic idea of beer has not changed. This series of lectures will discuss the basic method of brewing beer and the various styles that are favored today. Several lectures will discuss maximizing your enjoyment of beer including purchasing, storing and pairing it with food. The final lectures discuss the commercial production of beer and its effects on human health. Join us for a series of DVD lectures on this topic. Each session will include time for group discussion. Glenn Miller, One-Man Band

Named after the famous big band leader, Glenn started performing at the age of 10. At 16, he was leading his own dance band and was a featured trumpet soloist for concerts. Today, he schedules well over 350 shows each year. The arsenal of instruments Glenn plays includes custom accordions, trumpets, harmonicas, trombone, flugelhorn and more! Glenn’s unique blend of music and comedy is sure to entertain.

On May 16, 1986, in the small town of Cokeville, Wyoming, David and Doris Young entered the local elementary school with a bomb and held the entire school hostage in one room. In the mayhem that followed, the bomb was detonated, but not one hostage was killed, and the parents must put their skepticism aside as the children tell their stories of how they survived.
