WELCOME
Hello... ... and welcome to this very festive edition of Australian Simply Cards. The Christmas crafting season is always a busy time for us cardmakers. If, like me, you hate the thought of sending out store-bought cards, then you’ll want to get an early start on your creations, so this issue of Australian Simply Cards will help you do just that, with loads of festive ideas. We start our Christmas features on page 14 with some ideas for using your Christmas tree die that comes free with this issue. As well as the classic tree, poinsettias are always a favourite at this time of year. Over on page 28, Kathy Jones demonstrates some stunning creations using this popular image and the latest products from JustRite Stampers. We’ve also got some cute ideas for using bows and ribbons in your designs on page 44. It’s not all about cards though, because I love to make my own Christmas gifts too. I’m always looking for ideas for handmade stocking fillers so luckily, Teresa Abajo has been busy creating some beautiful gifts that you can find on page 53. Then if you’re hoping for clean and simple ideas for your cards this year, then look no further than page 63, where Linda Lucas gets stamping. As the festive season starts to take over, it’s easy to forget about those other occasions cropping up around this time of year. But we’ve got plenty of ideas to keep you going, including quick birthday makes on page 84. As always, we’re up to date with the latest trends too. Nature-inspired makes and recycled products are very popular in the crafting world at the moment. This month, Melissa Barnicoat shares some clever ideas for incorporating this look into your papercraft projects on page 18. As well as this, we have a masterclass on making your own backgrounds on page 37. And don’t forget our Cardmaker of the Year competition is well underway with loads of fantastic prizes to be won. There’s still time to get your entry in to us, so check out all the details over on page 26. These are just the highlights of what we have for you this issue and we have lots more including all the latest news and the usual tips and tricks. And if you want to see what fun festive projects we have in store for you next time, have a sneak peek at our digital preview by visiting www.ppjump.com/asc61preview So until next month… Happy crafting!

Elegant stamps
Kathy Jones creates some gorgeous designs using the latest products from JustRite Stampers
hristmas in Australia is hot and steamy and there are no snowflakes in sight. For this reason, instead of opting for snowy scenes this year, why not try creating some elegant Christmas cards using ornaments and poinsettias while sticking with the traditional red and green themes? For my Christmas cards, I have chosen the latest images

from JustRite Stampers. These gorgeous poinsettia images are the perfect match for the Layered Poinsettia die from Spellbinders, which of course I already had in my stash. I’ve discovered the easiest way to use these stamps is to die-cut your cardstock first and then stamp the image. Since the stamps are clear, they are easy to line up for the perfect placement. You can choose to stamp them in colour onto a

neutral cardstock or stamp them onto coloured card for a subtle appearance. If you want to emboss the images, use VersaMark ink. But remember to add Blu-Tack to the back of the image while heat-embossing to avoid the piece flying across the room! There is a huge range of embossing powders available and at this time of year, gold is the ideal choice. Clear is really useful too and you could even
use black to make certain elements pop. For another special touch, Spellbinders has an incredible range of dies for decorative edges. There are plenty to choose from, so you’re bound to find one to suit your project. Have fun experimenting and I hope this collection inspires you to think about our hot and humid Christmases, pack away your snowflakes, and try something a little different. l
