In 2004, Martinis’ Bistro owners Frank and Ann Kaven transformed their restaurant (formerly named ChriSar’s) from a family-oriented steak-andpasta restaurant; the changes included a new name and a redesigned, upscale patio area that includes hanging flower baskets, an herb garden, and a water fountain.
Housed in a turn-of-the-century Victorian home, Martini’s Bistro is a casually upscale restaurant with an al fresco dining area that can seat nearly 100. “Our guests have the opportunity to relax, refresh and rejuvenate under the cabanas, drink martinis in the sun or indulge themselves in the delicious dishes that make our patio the award-winning dining experience it is,” said marketing and events manager Shelly Steele-Morehead.
If it’s a martini a customer wants to enjoy, Martini’s Bistro offers more than 30 varieties of this popular mixed drink. While martinis are traditionally prepared by using gin and dry vermouth, pouring over ice and garnishing with an olive, Martini’s Bistro has “taken it to another level,” said SteeleMorehead, by mixing different spirits with liqueurs and juices.

Originally from New Orleans, hurricane Katrina prompted the Thorne family to move out west. But, they didn’t leave the down-south influence behind. The Loaf & Ladle menu has an abundance of southern, Cajun and familial influences.

When the sandwich menu won’t suffice, a Loaf & Ladle soup and salad will. Offering three to four soup options each day from a list of 20 family soup recipes and a variety of salads from a sesame Thai salad, cashew chicken salad to the traditional Caesar salad, finding the perfect lunch combination is possible.
“If you’re lucky, you’ll catch my Cajun soup day, when I’ll make something a bit more down-south delicious,” he says. And rounding out the perfect lunch meal isn’t complete without a slice of homemade pie.
“Most of our pies are my aunt’s and grandma’s recipes. My wife and I have added cheesecakes and other treats to the menu throughout the years to make it new and fresh for customers, and we have recently started offering fresh strawberry pie, fresh peach pie and butterscotch pie, among others,” Thorne says.
For the years of patronage and support, Loaf & Ladle can’t say “Thank you” enough.
“I’m so thankful to Longmont. It has been an amazing ride here, and the people in Longmont are so nice and awesome. Without them, we’d be nothing,” he says.

A great meal is only elevated by a perfect wine pairing. Fortunately, Sugarbeet offers a unique wine list to complement any meal and excite the taste buds.
“We try to feature single vineyards and estate-ground wines,” Witherspoon says. “We have a unique wine list that offers boutique wineries, and you won’t find nationally distributed wines, as we focus on West Coast wineries.”
