Welcome to our 4th annual “83 South Simmental Bull Sale”. We are very appreciative of the interest and support we have received in the past 3 sales. We are again pleased to partner with Downey Farms, Bar O Simmentals, and Lonestar Simmentals, to bring you an outstanding, diverse set of bulls. Regardless of your needs or preferences, there will be something in this sale to interest you. Again this year the sale will be held online with DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction. If you are not familiar with this process, full instructions are found in this catalog. We look forward to visiting with you at either of our Open House events or at the farm. If you would like any information on any of the sale bulls do not hesitate to call our sale consultant, Craig Davidson of Black Sand Cattle Company, or of course, any one of the consignors. Our complete cow herd has tested negative for Johnes disease, removing the concern of you purchasing an animal that may infect your herd with this serious disease. Our bulls were not creep fed as calves. After weaning they were carefully introduced to grain in their ration, and then fed a moderate energy ration formulated with a target gain of three pounds per day, fine tuned to optimize growth as opposed to laying down fat. These two management decisions allow us to evaluate their true genetic potential, and will also promote their soundness and longevity as herd bulls. They are fully vaccinated as part of our comprehensive herd health program including their initial and booster Fusogard (foot rot) vaccination, and have been given a rumen magnet. They are tie broke and quiet. Pictures were taken at the start of January, and videos, which were done mid February, will be attached to the online catalog on DLMS.

With a full fleck fullblood mother and a sire who is many generations red, you could make the argument 410 carries hybrid vigor. He was our second highest adjusted weaning weight, and is moderate framed with a broad top, full quarter and an abundance of natural muscle. His dam has produced two daughters who have sold through the Keystone Konnection Sale. In general, our bulls appreciate someone walking up and giving them a scratch. This guy-not so much. . A 71 lb birth weight, along with a smooth front end and calving EPDs near the top of the breed, and being a heifer’s 1st calf, would all indicate 402 has good potential to be used in the heifer pen. A 7/8 percentage bull that we used in our herd as cleanup after AI. His sire, Highlife is a Select Sire bull, who only had limited semen available in Canada, so 316 is an outcross to most herds. Would like to begin by saying a heartfelt thank-you to all those who have supported the event in whichever way. Your interest and work towards the sale is greatly appreciated by all of us. This year we hope to bring 14 yearling bulls to town for your appraisal. We have a lone Fleck bull – a lone red bull – and a dozen black bulls. We feel we have a fairly tight pen in terms of look and style. You will either like most of them or none of them. Most bulls were sire or parentage verified and once again frame scores have been provided on all the bulls. In closing visitors are always more than welcome to come view the bulls at the farm, or please be sure to make use of our “Open House” dates; whichever date or location works best for you. This is the youngest bull by far in our offering but what I feel is maybe our strongest and most complete made bull. He comes by it honestly as his donor dam is one of our best cows. This ain’t her first time bringing in a good one. Last year a sale highlight was a Power Play son, Downey 2318L who sold to astute cattleman Matt Artz of Pierson, MB. Before that, her first calf; a bull we retained for ourselves in our heifer pen. As for the top side, stupid me bred cows to a bull that we sold and didn’t take hair from. Thankfully the bull still walks at this time, so I should have a sire confirmation before sale day. This fella was an “in-dam purchase” from the Lewis Leading Ladies sale, his mother caught our eye for multiple reasons. Mainly for her mother, LFE Sheila 621Y (has 31 progeny to her good name) and we felt LFE 77K could very well exceed in her mother’s footsteps with the addition of the WFL Sage 506C matron. On the top side of this stud a total breed outcross with LFE Rolling Stone who adds calving ease with style and grow. Lot 41 has great EPD’s ranking in the top 20% for CE and top 10% for BW. He will grow into a very versatile breeding machine for ya down the road.

Something a little different here. Our only son off the popular WLB Top Tier stud. We used him on nearly all our yearling heifers last year and were very happy with the results. His calves came easy, had super vigour to them and made for a uniform calf crop. We had way more daughters than sons but are extremely happy with both sexes. They are square and deep with tremendous amounts of body and looks. The results made it easy for us to use him heavily again on heifers and some cows. At the end of the day, I really like this bull now, but a year on this guy, I bet he could be one hell of a herdsire. Diamond in the rough quality here. . POLLED . BLACK 3/4 PERCENTAGE . A couple of ET brothers from the MRL 394T matron! This female is the crown jewel to the largest cow family in our herd. This year we have 5 animals that carry her lineage. It’s a tossup for me as to which one I like best between these boys. Both are moderate in frame but square with big butt and tops. I know these guys will do what this family is known for, sire offspring that outperforms themselves, and add structural strength and soundness. They are good footed and easy on the move. I would have no trouble sending them anywhere as I think they will be reliable and productive for many years for their new owners. Buy with confidence!

Check out this dynamic duo! We are quite excited about these two ¾ brothers. Both boys stem from our “645” cow family and more specifically the 519C branch of it. This family is responsible for our high selling bull a couple years back to David Vanmackelbergh. We were fortunate enough to retain a semen interest on that bull and the majority of our calves this spring will be sired by him. Lot 49 is the first son that the 519C cow has given us and boy is he good. Moderate frame but big, big body; loads of shape and quality. Lot 50 is the third son now from our 879F donor. We think that this is maybe our strongest group of black bulls we’ve raised in quite a while, so felt we had to end things with what we consider our anchor. Downey 2427M is an embryo calf out of our best black cow to date. Downey 202A was our most consistent bull maker in her day. Nearly every one of her sons was our heaviest and most complete in the pen that year. 3 of her sons were either retained for ourselves or kept a semen interest on. This guy is cut from the same cloth; extra length and top with do ability and herdbull presence. We have a world of confidence in this guy.
