Welcome to our 12th Annual Bull Sale that we have hosted at Mar Mac Farms. We are a fourth Generation family run farm, where everyone is involved in the day to day operation. Brett is involved in the day to day operation of the farm along with owning his own cattle and crop land. Brett has recently been selected to be the Young Cattlemanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Council, Manitoba rep. Melissa owns and operates Prairie Pistol Designs, a graphics design and marketing company that designs ads, websites and catalogs along with cattle photography and videography. As we look forward to 2016, the cattle industry saw some of the top dollars ever paid for calves and cull cows in 2015. Although the market has leveled off, we must still appreciate the strong prices we are still receiving for our livestock. Top end calves are bringing around $1300-$1500. per calf which is still a good investment in the livestock industry. At Mar Mac, we are very proud of this strong set of beef bulls. As you can see in all divisions, Mar Mac has worked hard to achieve some outcross genetics along with calving ease and power potential herd sires. You will be able to access all your herd bull needs with these options. These bulls have been through a strict culling process with structural soundness, ease of fleshing, and disposition taken into consideration. Any of the bulls in the sale we would use in our program. We would like to retain the right to collect 200 straws of semen for our own use in our own herd at your convenience and our expense, on any of these bulls. Cow families are very important in our program as you can see in this book and our fall female sale; these families consistently produce top quality livestock. The cows are not pampered they have to calve and breed back or they do not stay around. This is the second year; our bulls are on a complete silage ration, to enhance longevity and soundness. They are athletic, loose hided and have lots of hair. You may find fatter bulls at other sales but these boys are fed to last. We are pleased to work with sale consignors: Perkin Land and Cattle Co. and Bruce McRae of Angus Valley Farm. Angus Valley bulls were fed at Mar Mac. Hosting a sale takes lots of hard work and we would like to thank our friends and neighbors that have helped us out over the years. We look forward to meeting with you on sale day, although we can not visit with everyone, we would like to thank you for attending our sale and supporting our program. All bulls have completed a breeding soundness evaluation. If your bull fails to be a satisfactory breeder, we will replace him with a bull of equal value or give you your money back. We guarantee you will have a sound bull to service your cows. We will not provide a replacement if your bull has been miss managed. At no time shall the liability exceed the purchase price of your bull. Bulls under one year of age on semen test day will be tested after their birthday, before you need them.

Calving Ease Score...

We evaluate each bull for calving ease determined by bone size, birth weight, birth weight EPD and profile. Scoring is as follows: ••• Recommended for use on moderate framed first calf heifers, of same breed. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble. •• Recommended for use on large framed first calf heifers & cows. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble. • Recommended for use on cows. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble.

DELIVERY

We offer to board your bull free until April 15, after that at cost until you need him. As well, we will deliver your bull free to central points in Western Canada or the US Border and cost will be shared to Eastern Canada. We will make every effort to get the bull to your farm. Delivery will be as close to the date you request your bull, but will be at our convenience. If you want to pick up your bull at the farm, you can save $100 off the purchase price. If you can not take your bull when we are in your area, we would appreciate if you made arrangements to pick up your bull.

PIECE OF MIND

Your new bull is a valuable asset and we recommend insuring your bull for infertility coverage and all risk mortality. If you are taking advantage of our wintering program, your new bull must be insured so we both have peace of mind. Insurance will be available from Keystone Livestock Services.

Check out the video of Ribeye at www.marmacfarms.net to see the agility and stride he has for an 8 year old Red Angus bull!!! We are so impressed by how docile, free moving, structurally sound and thick topped Ribeye is. A number of the Red Angus bulls are out of Ribeye females. It will be very hard to replace Ribeye as no matter bulls or females, they worked.

Outcross genetics and what a package. We retained Spartan to use in our program. His sire, Blackberry, left a strong set of bulls and boy what a set of females he left at Mar Mac. Blackberry’s dam is our Donor female McRae’s Bridget 125T(sired by Stevenson’s Bruno). On the dam’s side, when we purchased the Buck Valley herd one of strong cow families was the Siera line. To produce some outcross genetics we bred Siera to the beefy DMM Makin Waves sire. This combination has resulted in Spartan. So you will have to drive many miles to find a sire with these outcross genetics, along with the performance, and strong maternal strength. Wow what a set of bulls he left for the first calf crop.

Mar Mac used Peacemaker from Accelerated Genetics for some outcross genetics and calving ease. Boy are we happy with the calves, they not only calve easy but grow too. A number of Peacemaker females sold in our female sale and were well accepted. This Peacemaker x Prowler 2 year cross we think is really exciting, not only calving ease but style, and natural thickness.

We run a large black angus commercial cow herd in the North Interlake. We have bought 5 black angus bulls over the last couple years from Mar Mac and have been very pleased with our purchases. The bulls are solid, long, deep and wide and have great feet on them. They transfer these traits to their calves well and the calves package and weigh up well on sale day. They are easy calving and the calves are aggressive and up and nursing quickly on their own. The heifer calves are quiet and have great feet and udders. I appreciate the passion and philosophy at Mar Mac on producing top quality low input seed stock and that the problems belong on the truck. We plan to continue to source bulls from Mar Mac for our farm.

Just before A.I. season in 2014, I called Chris and Shane to ask what new up and coming bulls they would recommend. They highly recommended Mohnen South Dakota. I believe the words were “Don’t worry about it, just breed all your cows to South Dakota”. CE Calving Ease - percentage of unassisted births with the more positive number indicating greater calving ease. BW Birth Weight - the birth weight of a bulls progeny when compared to the breed average, in pounds. WW Weaning Weight - the adjusted weaning weight of a bulls progeny when compared to the breed average, in pounds. YW Yearling Weight - the adjusted yearling weight of a bulls progeny when compared to the breed average, in pounds. M Milk - a measure of amount of pre weaning performance gained by calves which can be attributed to the milking ability of a bull’s

A very complete Big Time that I really like. He is hairy and long spined and very square on the corners, with great carcass EPDs and ranking in the top 10 for %IMF. He is definitely a bull that you will find sale day.

A Big Time ET calf out of Agnes, a cow we sold to Kopp’s as a calf and then bought back in their dispersal as one of the top sellers and immediately flushed her. We are currently flushing her grandmother too, dam of Lot 76 Structurally correct, tidy headed, all wrapped up in a performance package, with an adjusted YW of 1441 lbs. We really like the way this calf has developed, he came in second only to Lot 62 in their group. Super long with a fantastic quarter and depth of rib. Our good ol’ Shear Force cow has produced another dandy bull with extremely balanced EPDs. The one and only Wallbanger in the pen, he has had such an impact on the breed. A calving ease bull that has a lot of depth to his pedigree. His dam is a full sib to the dam of Lot 65 and they are both daughters of the dam of lot 76. This cherry red bull has very balanced EPD’s, lots of milk and should work well on heifers.
