I WORK FOR MY ARCHITECT Office cum Residence DESIGN STUDIO, Semester 2 March-April 2014 Project Brief : Design an office cum small residence in a market place as if you work for Richard Meier. The project is located in New Market Bhopal on a 6mx15m plot with shared walls on 2 sides. Meier’s style has been used in the Indian context. The predominant use of white, passage for natural light throughout the building, simple geometric forms and openness of the whole building. The 2 storeyed building comprises of the office on the first two floors and a small apartment for the architect on the top floor. Since the building has to face the scorching Indian summers, the glass facade is covered louvers to control the amount of light entering the building. Roof lighting is provided along the east-west direction so that the sunlight enters all through the 3 the floors in the interior.

Urban design Lakefront design, Urban design interventions and Park design URBAN DESIGN STUDIO, Semester 9 August- December 2018 (Group of 4) Project Brief : The central library precinct of Old Bhopal region to be analysed and design interventions to be made. The site was a mix of residential old buildings in the east side and open areas on the other side with a lake view present on south. The street to be intervened was the railway station road which is also the main route to the station making it the Gateway to the city. The region has a rich history of the Begum’s rule which saw its peak during 1901-1926 under Sultan Zahan Begum. The major landmarks built in Bhopal were Saidia Middle School (1905), Central Library (1909), BHEL (1964) and Sri Kalika Mandir (1968). The region was urbanised after India’s Independence when immigrants from Pakistan settled in. Their houses were further built after the Gas Tragedy in 1984 when people got compensations. Lady Lansdowne Hospital for women, now known as the Sultania Zanana Hospital lies in the precinct and its location makes it one of the important nodes in he context of the city. The site was analysed and the design interventions were given as shown further.

THE FOREST RETREAT Hotel & Resort DESIGN STUDIO, Semester 6 February-April 2016 Project Brief : 120 rooms hotel, 30 rooms resort The site is located near Kaliasot Dam on a lakeside in Bhopal. Although lying within the city it remains isolated from the urban sprawl. The idea was to create a destination which breaks away from the historic and urban context of Bhopal. To create that essence of space, a hotel was conceived as a jungle resort. Primary focus was using the characteristics of the site to the design’s advantage. The overall ambiance of the building is brought in harmony with its surroundings.

CULTURAL CENTRE Location : Bhopal DESIGN STUDIO, Semester 5 March-April 2015 Project Brief :Cultural centre and auditorium, Capacity : 500 (for auditorium) The site is located near a forested area in the heart of Bhopal. The built context around the site or the lack of it inspires building following more organic free flowing forms. Thus, generating spatial configurations of spaces in a more parametric configuration. The form of the building is a reinterpretation of the overall topography of Bhopal which merges with the surrounding sloped terrain. As the building is located away from the built context of the city, thus the organic forms generate a different essence of the place. The two facades of the building are transparent in nature so that they reflect the unbuilt character of the outdoor inside. The low rise space becomes the library and exhibition spaces whereas the taller elongated part becomes the auditorium. There is a courtyard in the centre of the building which again brings in the landscape into the very heart of the building and reduces the gap between the built and natural environment for the users.

DOMESTIC HENCOOP Prototype Unit (Poultry House) Competition- South Asian Student Design Competition (Group of 4) Shortlisted in top - 15, September- December 2015 (group of 4) Project Brief :Document a vernacular settlement and propose a design intervention within context Most of the changes which go against the context fail to survive in the long run. One of the major problems had been the failure of the poultry house initiative by the government as the design was in contextual. The design tries to address this problem by making an alternative prototype of the poultry house.

Binda Kheda is village lying near the hill station Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, India. It has retained its vernacular character over the years but has also been touched by traits of globalization to which it had a mixed response.

VERNACULAR RE- ADAPTATION FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH In vernacular settlements, the changes with go against the context, do not survive in the long run and eventually fail. Moreover, the new ideas of modernity have made people question their own vernacular identity. Recent vernacular design ideas are only limited up to making the community and social spaces but not something for rejuvenation of economy. Thus, the design intervention creates a prototype which is far more usable, profitable and scalable against its modern counterpart made by the government. Thus changing the perception of the people about their vernacular identity.
