Need a break from election noise? Make something instead. I don’t know about you but lately I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed by the political onslaught in this election year. It’s like all of the information presented to me is slanted in some way by a political agenda. I know the candidates opinions on world news before I have a chance to form an opinion of my own. And I know my Facebook friends’ opinions almost instantly. It’s all so dizzying! Is it just me or does it all feel more heightened than it has been in the past? It seems to be about more than just discourse on important political issues. It feels raw and intensely personal; it’s a process that seems intent on provoking visceral, emotional reactions. Maybe that will prove to be a good thing, but we’ve got months and months to go and I am already exhausted. If only there was some way to tune out the noise once in a while. If only there was some way to channel my emotions productively. If only there was some way to unplug from the news feed and reflect on what is important to me. And then I remember that I run the most amazing arts center on the planet and I have all these possibilities right in front of me. And so do you. Your vote is important. But so is your mental health! So think about taking a much-needed break from this oh-so-surreal election season and enjoy the satisfaction of making something with your own two hands. You won’t regret it. Cheers,
Steve Galatro Executive Director
