INTRODUCTION Both to develop our skills in Photography and Gain an understanding of the Context, Urban Fabric of Richmond, and materiality of Buildings; We were asked to make a Photobook displaying photographs we have captured showing out interpretation of four themes: inhabitation vs. abandoned places reflections, groundscapes and tapestries shadows and silhouettes time and flow the "Photo-Mapping" took place within and around the site in Richmond and of key buildings in Tenerife that related to the topography of the site. This exercise taught us how to think analytically about what we are photographing and to maximise the use of our cameras in order to capture this. These themes are translated in to the design of the Photography Institure, using the photographs to inspire ideas about light, materiality and atmosphere.

RICHMOND | The Time Capsule Sanctuary INHABITATION VS. ABANDONED PLACES

REFLECTIONS, GROUNDSCAPES AND TAPESTRIES
The window of St. Mary's Church REFLECTS an image of the houses positioned opposite, capturing the quaint architecture, tall topography and exciting roofscape in one.

The TEXTURE of an old tree growing in the cemetery is highlighted by the sun, CARVING routes through the surface: which inspired the public route strategy of my design.

INHABITATION VS. ABANDONED PLACES
The surroundings of the site include a cemetery that belongs to St. Mary's church. The angled, random placement of the graves, complimented with their weathered look gives an eerie and therefore abandoned feeling to the place when captured at certain moments.

TENERIFE | The Light Institute INHABITATION Vs. ABANDONMENT
Items left by owners add a sense of ownership and thus INHABITATION to the room. The Key Could Represent Abandonment; an item that should be carried on one's person most commonly.

The space proceeding the Gate on the right appears inaccesable, thus leading to connotation of ABANDONMENT.

TIME & FLOW
Circulation articulated through Ramps and Stairs create MOVEMENT, complimented by the directionality of the railings.

The Vertical Staining of the Concrete contrasts the diagonal FLOW of the walled ramps.

TIME & FLOW La Laguna University of Fine arts creates movement throughout campus using swirls of concrete walk ways that rise up and down each floor, causing one to travel through the building seemlessly. external walk ways merge cleverly with interiors of the building, making a smooth transition from inside to outside. The use of vertical polycarbonate cladding in the SEGAI research centre creates vertical movement in horizontal walkways throughout the building, creating a taller atmosphere. Angled looking upwards, the material seems to extend infinitely, blurring the boundary of the horizon line.

Imprints left on concrete from the Formwork create an interesting void and TEXTURED surface.

Pool of rainwater creates a distorted REFLECTION of the RIDGED surface. Light creates a contrast in TEXTURE of the hammered concrete facade.

SHADOWS AND SILHOUETTES The lighting of the rooms creates shadows that highlight certain parts of a range and juxtaposition of several materials in the Architect's Association Buildnig. Here a ray of light shines through the wall, casting a shadow on either side and hightlighting the horizontal texture of the back wall. Meanswhile contrasting darkness below. Situated on the lowest level, this room is naturally dark. atmospheric lighting is used to create various intensities of light within the room. The concrete above appears thin and almost translucent. The light highlights the texture of the formwork surrounding the openings, when looking up this contrasts against the flat ceiling.
