FIGURE GROUND 1898
1916
1955-73
The figure ground analysis of the 1898 map indicates the ratio between the built and open space.
The number of buildings from 1839 have neither drastically increased nor decreased over the course of the years.
The number of buildings has reduced by half to about 108 when compared to the 1916 map.
The total number of building mapped in the 1898 map are 243 covering an area of 125559 sq. ft.
The count of the buildings in 1916 is 253 covering a building area of 136877 sq. ft.
Most of the height of the buildings range from 50 – 500 sq. m and a scattered large surface area building.
Despite the minimal increase in the count of buildings the are has increased due to the expansion of the buildings.
Although the area covered by the plots are relatively larger than 1916, the buildings are lesser due to the larger surface area of the parking which are considered the vacant lands.
Numerous dwellings have expanded the surface area by additions of porches and sheds in each plot.
This reduces the building footprint but increases the plot area to 153901 sq. ft.
