Welcome
Blue Skies?
L
ast July, I was sitting in the bleachers of my daughter’s softball game. Because of COVID-19, at the conclusion of the game, coaches abandoned the traditional high-fives with the other team, opting for a parade-like wave across the field. But this was July. It was hot and sunny. We had vaccines and were feeling pretty darn good about the future. So, when the outcome of this particular game was decided, players lined up and high-fived the opponent. Touching another person’s hand? This would have been unheard of six months ago! But again, we were feeling pretty good in July 2021, so as the players congratulated each other on a good game, I stood up in the stands and announced to other parents, “The pandemic’s over, people!” I couldn’t have been more wrong. First, the left punch from Delta, then Omicron with a right cross and by January of this year we were feeling pretty crummy about travel. But lately, the clouds have parted and, again, we’re feeling pretty good about the future. Cases are down. Vaccines, immunity and therapeutics protect us. We’re more knowledgeable. And it’s not just me who’s feeling good. A recent Longwoods International survey of “A recent Longwoods American travelers shows that we are starting International survey to look past the pandemic. News of the decline of American travelers in new Omicron cases is impacting sentiment and only 24% of travelers say that COVID-19 shows that we are would greatly impact their travel planning starting to look past over the next six months, while 31% say the the pandemic.” pandemic has no influence at all. Additionally, 87% of American travelers say they will travel in the next six months, a clear indication that this is going to be a busy year of rebound for the travel industry. With that being said, what’s your plan for gathering with friends and family? Where are you looking to meet up? Fortunately, this edition of Destination Reunions has plenty of ideas with destinations eager to host your next gathering. From big cities to big mountains, beaches to Broadway theater, there’s something for everyone inside this edition. Family travel has been one bright spot over the last two years and we’ve resolved to continue to provide unique ideas both through this publication, online DestinationReunions.com and in our InSite from Destination Reunions e-newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading the advice and destination stories we produced. If so, tell your friends and family about Destination Reunions and let’s kick this family travel trend into high gear!

Make the most out of your group’s trip to the ultimate family travel destination
T
here’s so much to do at Walt Disney World that any vacation to the Central Florida resort requires solid preparation if you want your visit to be low-stress and full of happy memories. If you are organizing a multigenerational visit to Disney World with extended family, there are certain aspects of the planning process that you’ll want to pay particular attention to. You’ll need to choose a hotel that will be comfortable for your party and find out which rides are on your family’s must-do list, among other things. Here are six tips for multigenerational
Disney World vacations that will help you have a magical time at The Most Magical Place on Earth.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TICKETS
Disney World offers multiple ticket options. If your family isn’t particularly fast-moving, you may not need to pay extra for the Park Hopper option that lets you access multiple parks per day. If you think your family will want to spend time
together outside of the theme parks, you can add the Water Park and Sports Option that gets you into Disney’s water parks, golf courses and miniature golf courses.
SET UP DISNEY’S APP BEFORE YOUR TRIP
The My Disney Experience app is a must-have for any Disney World vacation, but it can be even more helpful when you are traveling with friends or extended family. Before your visit, have everyone with a smart device download the app and set up an account to link their tickets (this

should happen automatically if you book directly through Disney). Then follow these instructions to link your accounts so you can make plans together and share them with everyone in your party. You can use Disney’s app to make dining reservations and mobile food orders, see wait times and show times, look up maps to help navigate the park, and see your PhotoPass photos taken around the parks and on select attractions when you purchase Memory Maker (which you really should do so you don’t miss out on all those family photos). You can also set up individual MagicMobile Passes for everyone in your party that they can use for contactless entry into Disney World’s theme parks, and if you are staying at one of Disney’s onsite hotels, you can use the app to unlock your hotel room door. The Disney Genie service, which includes a complimentary trip-planning feature and paid skip-the-line options, requires the My Disney Experience app, too. With your entire party linked in one place, you’ll all be able to see your custom itinerary and make Lightning Lane reservations.
MAKE A DAILY GAME PLAN
When parents, kids, and grandparents visit Disney World together, everybody is going to have different priorities. Before your trip, find out everybody’s “Disney wish list.” What are the attractions, restaurants, characters, activities and parades or fireworks that are most important to them? Make a list of these must-dos and use them to build a loose itinerary based on which parks you plan to visit each day. The key word here is “loose.” You don’t want to pack the day so full that you feel like you’re rushing from place to place with not a minute to spare. It’s also helpful to build in breaks throughout the day or to designate specific times to meet up throughout the day. This gives everybody time to do their own thing or take a nap without any confusion about when or where you’ll get back together. 8

MAKE ADVANCE DINING RESERVATIONS
The most highly-coveted Disney World dining reservations get snatched up almost the minute they become available. If your kids have their heart set on dining inside Cinderella Castle at Cinderella’s Royal Table, or if you want to take your parents who grew up on the original Star Wars films to Oga’s Cantina, you’ll need to make your reservations ahead of time. Currently, advance dining reservations can be made up to 60 days before your visit. If you are staying onsite, you can make reservations for the entirety of your visit at the 60-day mark. If you are staying offsite, you’ll have to make reservations day-by-day. Making reservations in advance is smart when you are traveling as a large group. The larger your party, the tougher it can be to secure dining reservations. There are plenty of quick service dining options that don’t require reservations, but if you
have specific sit-down restaurants in mind, it’s best to make reservations in advance. Dining reservations also serve as built-in meet-up points should your group choose to split up for part of the day.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT HOTEL
Disney World resort hotels have various options that are better suited for multigenerational vacations. The Family Suites at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are both budget-friendly options that sleep up to six guests. If you are looking to splurge, many of Disney’s deluxe resorts have one-, two- and three-bedroom villas to accommodate all family sizes. For all the comforts of home at surprisingly reasonable prices, you may also want to look outside of Disney’s onsite resort hotels. The Grove Resort & Water Park is less than 15 minutes away from Disney World and has two- and DestinationReunions.com

three-bedroom condos with full kitchens and laundry facilities. WorldMark Reunion offers large three-bedroom suites that sleep up to eight guests, a spa, water park and three golf courses, all less than 10 miles from Disney.
A day at Disney World's Epcot is both fun and educational.
If you are traveling with young children, you can use your multi-gen Disney vacation as an opportunity to take a date night or spend a few hours going on the “big kid” rides that your kids aren’t quite tall enough for. To say thank you, parents can give grandparents a bit of kid-free time to explore at their own pace or have a romantic evening of their own. From where to stay, where to dine, and how to plan out your days, you’ll be your family’s Fairy Godmother when you use these tips for planning your multigenerational Walt Disney World vacation. TIPS FOR A MORE ECO-FRIENDLY REUNION Look for ways to make your next family get-together a win for the environment
G
reen is the new black; it’s chic, popular and looks darn good on anyone. More importantly, it’s essential for our planet’s health. When you’re having a great time at your reunion, knowing you’re doing your best to minimize the trip’s ecological impact will make it an extra-special experience. With that said, you probably will not be able to incorporate every single one of the following environmentally aware tips. That’s okay, do what you can. Next time, maybe you can add in one or two more. We’ve split our tips into several categories. Some of them will apply to more than one category, so feel free to use them however you can.
sensitive experiences. For a seriously green reunion, consider working with wildlife or environmental conservation groups during your stay. 3. W hen you get to your destination, be sparing with the thermostat. Don’t over-heat or over-cool the premises. Giving everyone the gift of a personalized reunion sweatshirt or fan might make this option a little more palatable (See Tip 18).
While Traveling
4. Consider carpooling. Ask smaller groups or families to rent a van
1. If possible, choose a destination that doesn’t require a lot of travel time. The less time you spend in the car (and especially in an airplane), the better. 2. Look into ecotourism options. Ecotourism is a rather broad term; it can relate to environmentally-friendly adventure travel and to culturally10

Choosing a Destination
and travel together. Try to fill every available seat, within reason. 5. Could you rent a hybrid or electric car? Use public transportation? Be creative with your A-to-B transportation during the reunion. If you are scheduling excursions from your main location, try to use as few vehicles as possible. 6. Realistically, you may have to take several cars, fly a long way or drive several hours to get to your reunion destination. If that’s the case, consider buying a carbon offset for your trip. These are not necessarily expensive— they can run under six dollars. However, make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. (See Tip 19).
Food & Drink
7. W here possible, buy local and organic food. Organic food, which uses no toxic pesticides, herbicides or other man-made chemicals, is kinder to the environment than conventionally grown meat, dairy and produce. And using local food, which doesn’t have to be trucked in from the other side of the country, is another environmentally-friendly option. 8. Order your food sensibly. While no one wants to run out of food in the middle of the party, food waste is one of the biggest obstacles to an environmentally friendly reunion. Offer locally raised vegetables with homemade dip for a starter, and minimize waste on the main course by serving slightly smaller portions or by calculating the number of attendees as accurately as possible.

Visiting a farmers' market can be fun and yield some healthy foods for your meals.
DestinationReunions.com
Activities
12. Shop the local farmers’ market. This can be something of a treasure hunt, plus you can pick up some goodies for the next meal. 13. M ake recycling a game. Divide the kids (or even the adults) into squads and have them search for recyclables. Whichever group comes up with the biggest haul gets a prize. 14. Hike, bike, canoe, kayak—just get out and enjoy nature—without a motor. This is one of the best things you can do for the environment and for yourself. 15. Visit a nearby farm or garden. Bonus points if it’s an organic farm or community garden. Extra bonus points if you take a class, try something new or even volunteer an hour or so of your time. 16. U se part of your time for the greater good. Help clean up a beach or park, for example. Although this may sound DestinationReunions.com

9. T ry out a vegan or vegetarian menu. Meat is very resource-intensive to produce. Vegetables and grains, on the other hand, not so much. If you’re hosting a multi-day event, try having at least one vegan or vegetarian meal. If you’re having a one-day reunion, choose plenty of vegetablecentric dishes and just have one or two meats. 10. Admittedly, nobody really likes washing dishes for 150 people, but “reduce, reuse and recycle” is the name of the game. Perhaps you could have teams of guests help with tidying away the dishes. At the very least, choose biodegradable disposable flatware, plates, and bowls. 11. Rather than stocking a full bar, consider having some organic beer and a signature cocktail. Offer homemade iced tea and lemonade from large containers instead of having lots of individual bottles. If this won’t go over well with your group, remember that aluminum cans and glass bottles are easier to recycle than their plastic counterparts.
17
Planting a tree is a way to honor or memorialize a family member.
like work, when you do it with your friends, it becomes fun. And it’s a really great memory. 17. Plant a tree or make a group donation. This would be even more special if you did it in the name of the guest of honor or to commemorate some special milestone.
Souvenirs and Party Favors
18. Choose eco-friendly party favors. These can be reusable, like personalized metal water bottles or clothing (i.e. those warm reunion sweatshirts we mentioned earlier). They can be pampering, like beeswax candles and organic bath salts or essential oils. Or the gifts themselves can be green in every sense of the word: potted plants (check your state import regulations if you’re bringing anything in from out-of-state) and local or heirloom seed packets.
Avoid ‘Greenwashing’
19. I f you choose to purchase carbon offsets, do so through a high-
q uality and reputable source. Otherwise, your dollars might not be doing all that much good. The sad truth is that some unscrupulous companies engage in “greenwashing”—making their venue, product or service seem to be a lot more environmentally friendly than it is. However, doing a little extra research will help you determine who really should get your business and donation. 20. If you’re planning to stay at a “green” hotel or resort, don’t just take their word for it. Look for the EPA Energy Star certification or the US Green Building Council’s LEED certification. These are respected third-party credentials that verify the property’s energy usage and adherence to green building principles. Having an environmentally-friendly reunion doesn’t mean forgoing the fun. Adopting even a few of these tips can help you have a significantly lessened impact on the environment during your next get-together. DR DESTINATION REUNIONS

weekend. At the time of our reunions, our state was allowing groups of 50 to gather. Our June reunion was for approximately 35 people. We found a large vacation rental near Bear Lake, Utah that fit our needs. Renting made our reunion so much easier, as everything was provided except the food, our clothes and the boat.

A Reunion in Space
Since we had to cancel our Labor Day reunion in 2020, all of the 120 Stewart family members were ready to gather together in 2021. We reserved two large group campsites. Family members brought tents and trailers, and we camped out for three days in the beautiful outdoors. Our theme for this reunion was “My Family is Out of This World,” a space theme. Every activity and meal was outdoors. Family members received a personalized “Astronaut in Training” name badge and lanyard when they arrived at the campsite and had to complete astronaut training to earn their certification. They participated in Alien Avoidance Training, Solar System Training and Hand/Eye Training, to name a few. We ate Man in the Moon pancakes and hot dog rockets. We launched water bottle rockets, hunted for moon rocks and competed in an obstacle course while wearing tin can moon boots. The most popular activity at our space reunion was hunting for a large “alien” egg. It was a jumbo Easter egg, large enough to hold a full-sized bag of potato chips. We let families know in advance that they needed to come prepared with a prize to put in the giant egg before they came to camp. Our alien egg rules were: 1. If you find the egg, refill it with treats, money, a small stuffed animal, etc. and hide no longer than 60 minutes after you find it. The sooner you hide the egg the more chances it can be found. 2. Hide within boundaries of the campground. 3. B e considerate of private property, no trespassing. 4. E gg needs to be hidden, but visible. 5. When you find the egg, post picture of the egg and where you found it to the Stewart Facebook page showing the egg has been found. 6. T ake picture of refilled egg in its new hiding spot and post to Facebook page with a clue. DestinationReunions.com
Photo coutesy of Marilynn Stewart
Our family came and went during the reunion so we averaged 25-35 together at one time. We planned all of the activities outside with water skiing, playing on the beach and volleyball. A "Sun and Sand" or beach theme is one of the easiest themes you can choose. Your family can entertain themselves in the sand and water for hours without a lot of supervision or planning. Decorate with beach balls, brightly colored sand buckets, dollar store sunglasses and sea shells. Plan some DIY activities such as sand art, decorating flip flops, sea shell painting or making giant bubbles. There was a wonderful deck on our rented cabin that made it possible to eat outside for those who wanted to. Our vacation rental was so large that we were able to divide the sleeping areas into family groups. For example, my family group of 17 had the entire upper floor to ourselves. The cabin rental was the perfect solution for us. It allowed us to be separated, but we were still “together.” It was shortly after our reunion that the state of Utah really cracked down on large group gatherings, so this was the only get-together we did with extended family all year.
Alien egg encounters
The finale of our space reunion was a “rising star” talent show. It was a little tricky to do a talent show in the great outdoors but with the help of a generator, blue tooth speakers and gymnastic mats we were able to make it work.
Theme Alternatives
You can get away from a boring sit-around and “just visit” family reunion by having an Olympics-themed reunion. We’ve hosted several Olympics reunions through the years, winter, summer and silly. We like to start our Olympics reunions by providing markers and poster paper so that each family can make a family flag for the opening ceremony. Activities that get your family members up and moving are the best options for an Olympics-themed reunion. Have a soccer or volleyball tournament, go bowling or hold a family 5K. If you’re feeling silly, plan water balloon volleyball, egg on a spoon relay, slip and slide baseball, a javelin balloon throw or other twists on popular events. The most popular competition at our Olympics-themed reunions is the tug-of-war event. It can be difficult to find a tug-of-war rope, but we like a rope that is 75 to 100 feet long. It should be a thick, sturdy rope (1 to 1.5 inches in diameter) and 100 percent cotton. On our invitation we always remind family members to add gloves to their list of things to bring. Other reunion themes that work well in the outdoors are a Western, bootcamp or caveman theme. If a two- or three-day reunion isn’t an option for your family this year, try an afternoon at a park, group picnic site or other outside venue. One of things we’ve learned these past few years is that it’s not really important where or when we gather as family, it’s just important that we gather. The great outdoors is the perfect place to make that happen. DR Marilynn W. fter so much time spent apart, families and multigenerational groups are looking forward to gathering and sharing adventures of a lifetime. Vacations can reconnect families that have long been separated and make them whole again. Expedia’s 2022 Trends Survey Report revealed that nearly 70% of Americans are planning to go big on their trips this year. Travelers want their next vacation to be the “greatest of all trips,” and according to travel advisors, many family groups are going all out on their travel plans. Parents and grandparents have bucket lists filled with dream destinations. After the last two
years, they want to make up for lost time and share extraordinary trips with loved ones. Planning the ultimate family adventure can be daunting, particularly when expectations are skyhigh. The best family vacations include a wealth of memorable activities for all ages and interests. In addition, there are numerous details and logistics to consider, including where to stay, best places to eat, timing and schedules for attractions, and transportation from place to place. In today’s world of constantly changing travel mandates and restrictions, it’s important to be up-to-date on health and safety protocols as well.

The company is seeing strong demand for family and multigenerational travel this year. Bookings for 2022 Tauck Bridges trips are up double-digits over pre-pandemic 2019. Private Departure trips—specifically tour departures that can be reserved for larger groups—are in demand among family reunion groups of 10 or more. Popular 2022 destinations include Italy, Alaska and Tauck Bridges’ European river cruises for families.

Thomson Family Adventures: Founded in 1998, Thomson Family Adventures focuses exclusively on family travel. The company’s 15 guided destination itineraries are designed specifically for small family groups and can be customized for private tours as well. Thomson Family Adventures is seeing a high demand for its 2022 trips and a trend towards bucket-list travel. “Many multigenerational families live far from one another, so traveling brings them the opportunity to finally connect,” says General Manager Nicole Wineland-Thomson. “We have heard countless stories of grandparents just wanting to see their families, so they craft private multigenerational trips with us to finally be together.” Thomson Family Adventures’ tours cover every detail including meals, guided experiences, hotels, unique cultural exchanges and activities to fit the ages of all travelers, plus alternatives for those seeking less adventurous options. Popular closer-to-home destinations include Costa Rica and Baja Mexico, while Tanzania and the Galapagos Islands are sought-after bucket list trips. Trafalgar: Trafalgar offers nearly 300 guided trips with departures perfect for families and multigenerational groups. Melissa DaSilva, U.S. President of Trafalgar, states, “Multigenerational trips continue to be very popular with Trafalgar, especially as families reunite and make up for lost time.” Expertly designed itineraries include activities for all age groups and feature experiences that teach new skills, dive deep into new cultures and connect travelers with locals. “Multigenerational families first look at the destination they want to go to, but also trend towards trips that have plenty of ‘add-on’ experiences and flexible itineraries,” DaSilva notes. Due to the strong demand for smaller group trip departures, Trafalgar is introducing intimate Sprinter Van itineraries in the western United States. These fully-planned, guided trips can take families to iconic destinations such as Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe and Yellowstone. Private departures are available, too. Trafalgar’s enriching trips to America’s western national parks, the Canadian Rockies and Italy are particularly popular with families this year. DR DestinationReunions.com

WORKING WITH A
TRAVEL ADVISOR A pro can do wonders in planning that big family trip
I
By Cindy Bertram
n these uncertain times when things aren’t how they used to be, we all need an escape more than ever. As the pandemic cuts into our chances to connect with family and friends, it has become important to plan big by gathering up members of the extended family and taking a vacation together. The pent-up demand is certainly there. Family reunions usually involve folks coming from different parts of the country. These types of trips, though, definitely call for extensive planning, and it’s often delegated to one family member. That can be quite a burden on even the most organized person. But wait, there’s another option. Instead of having your mom or aunt coordinate everything, consider working with a professional travel advisor who can reduce the stress, time and effort involved in planning all the little details of putting together a trip that may involve 20, 40 or even 100 people. Deciding where the family wants to go—whether it’s a cruise, lake resort or world-class theme park—is just the first step. However, there is a lot more involved in planning a trip. Will family members be flying there? Will passports be required? What about meals and hotel reservations? These are just a few of the key issues that confront reunion planners, and issues that a travel advisor

can handle with their knowledge and expertise. They can create a family trip that’s full of wonderful memories to last a lifetime. Working directly with a professional travel advisor does indeed have its advantages, and I was able to get some insights from industry pros who have been in the business for over two decades.
Tim Rinkoski Premium Travel and Cruises
Tim Rinkoski, general manager and co-owner of Premium Travel and Cruises, has worked in the travel industry for over 25 years. When a family trip is being formed, “there should be one person for communication, emails, etc.,” he said. “If there are multiple families in the group, and they ‘need’ to have their own ‘main person,’ then this should be made known early on to have a good line of communication. When issues happen, having multiple people ‘checking’ and then trying to make changes only causes more issues. Too many people think they know how to do things, but they don’t.” Rinkoski and I talked more about the family member who has been designated to be “in charge” of organizing the trip. He said, “As much as we like to think this person will know what we need, it is best to have a form/ checklist to cover all the information a
supplier, cruise line and hotel needs to make the individual bookings.” Rinkoski added, “It’s details, details, details…not just age, but birth dates, passport information, medical issues and now vaccination information. There are also other things to keep in mind like dietary information, bed configuration, table seating, availability of childcare/ babysitting services, if needed. The list is endless and depends on what the group is doing, their length of stay and the destination.” Another area where a travel advisor can add value is travel insurance. Rinkoski said, “Travel insurance is now almost mandatory for entrance to some countries. Yes, people always think they do not need it, but history shows those will be the people who will need it (when they do not have it). For travelers who do more than two or three trips a year, there are now policies available for ‘year-long’ travel insurance.”
Wendy Rosenberg Party Cruiser’s Etc.
Wendy Rosenberg, luxury cruise specialist at Party Cruiser’s Etc., has worked as a professional travel advisor for almost 25 years. She is an Elite Cruise Counselor Scholar, also known as an ECCS, through Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Rosenberg said working with a travel expert has definite advantages because DestinationReunions.com

A professional travel advisor can smooth the way.
“sometimes there are unexpected changes that could occur – possibly a cancellation of a flight, changes with a cruise and their destinations. And as a professional travel advisor, we can assist you with this.” When planning special group travel, Wendy explained, “With each group there are key components that are involved. If it is a special celebration, helping the group members and the group organizer decide on excursions, dietary needs, airfare, benefits and perks, the actual destination (cruise or destination/country) as well as the price point are what I can do for them. With my coordinating, arranging and doing the complete booking, the group members don’t have to worry or stress because I do all the research for them.” Rosenberg provided an example of a successful group booking she handled for a family. She was working on a river cruise that a gentleman wanted to get arranged for his family, and he DestinationReunions.com
was going to pay for it. Wendy worked directly with his daughter, who was working full time and didn’t have time to coordinate all the details. Rosenberg said, “I planned a special Vietnam river cruise group on the Mekong with AmaWaterways for a multigenerational family. It was a group where family members lived in places over the country....I coordinated all their air schedules for arrival at the destination and their pre-cruise hotel stay. Some of these family members wanted to do a post-cruise stay, at different destinations, so I was able to arrange this, did all the registrations, bookings and documentations.” She continued, “When these family members returned, they called to thank me for helping them out and coordinating all the logistics involved. Organizing this special family group truly created amazing experiences for them and memories of a lifetime. I was just so glad I could do this for them.”
Final Thoughts
When the outbreak of COVID-19 happened in late March 2020, some types of travel had to hit the pause button. Cruising was one of these. But people are traveling again, and “safety bubbles” have been created by travel suppliers, including cruise lines, many of which now mandate that travelers not only be vaccinated but tested before departure. However, new travel restrictions can occur at a moment’s notice, and this is where using a travel advisor provides a great benefit. They are there to help with not just arranging your family trip but keeping you on top of potential changes and the options available. It’s not surprising, as U.S. residents make up a staggering 81% of guests arriving in Mexico by air, and tourism receipts account for nearly 9% of the country’s GDP. While Cancun and its neighbor to the south, the Mayan Riviera, grab much of the spotlight, Mexico’s west coast offers a unique brand of vacation, with resort destinations along the rugged Pacific coastline including Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. In particular, Puerto Vallarta is on the radar of more families due to a number of factors. For one, its airport is just minutes away from the leading resorts and has regular service from major U.S. carriers. There are literally hundreds of hotel choices, with accommodations from hostel-quality to 5-star all-inclusive luxury resorts. HOW IT BEGAN
In the early 1500s, 100 Spanish explorers arrived at Banderas Bay and discovered 20,000 Aztatlan indigenous people residing in the Nuevo Vallarta region, just north of today’s city. Throughout the 16th century, sailors and explorers used the bay as a resting stop on long voyages. Silver and gold were mined in the mountainous region in the 17th and 18th centuries. By the early 20th century, with the mining economy expanding along with the port that shipped the ore, a municipality called Puerto Vallarta was created. But due to its isolated location and lack of tourism infrastructure, the town was far from a vacation destination. Things started to change in 1963 when Hollywood arrived. Movie stars Deborah Kerr, Ava Gardner, Sue Lyon and Richard Burton were on location in Puerto Vallarta to film the movie Night of the Iguana. Because of the film and a surrounding scandal involving Burton and actress Elizabeth Taylor, tourism to

A good pair of hiking shoes is welcome on downtown’s cobblestone streets as you explore the shops and restaurants and take in the breathtaking scenery along the Malecon Boardwalk, which shoulders the bay. THE RESORTS
The region offers an abundance of lodging options, many of which are within close proximity to the airport and downtown. This is a huge advantage of vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. A quick transit from the airport means you can literally be at the pool within an hour or two of landing. All-inclusive resorts are a preferred choice for families. Two popular allinclusive options are AMR Resorts’ Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort & Spa and Velas Vallarta, part of the Velas chain of upscale resorts across Mexico. Dreams sits in an ideal location for families looking to explore Vallarta on foot while still having a secluded feeling.
