FAMILY REUNIONS CREATE Lifelong Memories

Beloved author Dr. Seuss said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

The events of the past few years brought home the truth of those words. Family memories become our greatest heirlooms, and they are priceless. That’s one of the many reasons why multigenerational family reunions and family vacations are topping travel lists. Parents and grandparents know that life goes by quickly, and their highest priorities are family ties.

There’s a renewed focus on family togetherness and multigenerational group travel. Research from multiple sources, including Booking.com, shows that more than half of those surveyed are planning family reunion trips and multigenerational vacations this year. Based on recent surveys, AAA named traveling with family and friends as one of their top 2023 trends. Dozens of my recent conversations with destinations, resorts, and other travel suppliers confirm this as well.

Now is the time to reunite, bond and make lifelong memories. Destination Reunions can show you how. Destination Reunions makes it easy to plan epic family reunions and extraordinary family adventures. The magazine and online site are packed with in-depth information on incredible destinations to help you choose the perfect family reunion location. Destination Reunions delivers top-notch ideas for group family vacations, providing feature stories and guides on organizing memorable family reunions and exceptional family trips.

“You go through life wondering what it is all about, but at the end of the day, it’s all about family,” said singer Rod Stewart. Enjoy reviewing this edition of Destination Reunions, and start planning your next group family vacation. At Destination Reunions, we’re here to help you orchestrate an unforgettable experience the whole family will love.

AFFORDABLE LUXURY TRAVEL IDEAS

Let this year be one of escapades and experiences with custom-made luxury travel indulgences

After a couple of years of learning to live with less, many of us are eager to experience living with more. And that’s especially true when it comes to travel. Whether it’s personalized services, exotic locations, exclusive opportunities or simply experiencing the world in the upmost of comfort and quality, luxury travel is on the rise.

According to Skift’s recent State of Travel 2022 report, almost 30% of travelers say their vacations budgets are higher after COVID-19 — and there are plenty of hotels, cruise operators and tour companies happy to oblige. But as with so many things in life, the definition of ‘luxury’ is open to debate. While the word itself suggests a higher price tag, luxury travel is much richer (pun intended) than that. It often offers more access to and a

Share your experiences around the table with a catered dinner from an in-residence chef.

ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS ON AN AFRICAN SAFARI

Or maybe you prefer your animal encounters on the more exotic side. These days, safaris can offer a front row seat to incredible wildlife as well as exceptional lodging and food. Jacada travel specializes in crafting bespoke luxury African safaris with supporting

local conservation initiatives as a focus. Your next group adventure could include an ultimate Kenyan safari with lodging at Giraffe Manor, a pristine sanctuary that features its namesake animal wandering the grounds of the lavish property.

ROYAL REPOSE IN MARRAKECH, MOROCCO

cruise ships, and they’re designed to attract more family vacationers.

Fun-filled family cruise itineraries can include Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay, featuring North America’s tallest waterslide and other adventures.

Royal Caribbean provides cruise credit for family groups of 16 or more booking at least eight staterooms. Group dinners and events can be arranged, and an onboard coordinator is available to help.

TONS OF MULTIGENERATIONAL APPEAL

Family reunion cruises must cater to the diverse interests and preferences of multiple generations. It’s key to pick a ship your whole crew will love. Some groups may favor an amenity-rich venue that delivers fun for all ages, minus the action-packed waterslides and top-deck attractions. Several cruise lines’ ships fit the bill perfectly. Celebrity Cruises is an appealing choice for multigenerational family group cruises. Its amenity-filled ships offer innovative venues and activities with an emphasis on enrichment and entertainment, including Celebrity’s award-winning Camp at Sea program for kids and teens.

Holland America Line delivers an exceptional cruise experience for multigenerational groups. Its ships feature superb restaurants, shows and top-notch live music venues, culinary and enrichment programs, swimming pools and fun family activities, and the Club HAL youth program for kids and teens. Family-friendly accommodations are available, and newer ships offer staterooms for families of five. Alaska, Canada/New England and the Caribbean are popular destinations for family group cruises, and more multigenerational families are traveling to Europe for bucket-list voyages.

Families of 16 or more booking at least eight staterooms can take advantage of Holland America Line’s outstanding Family Reunion package and group benefits. A group coordinator is also on board who can assist in making special dining arrangements, as well as memorable activities and celebrations.

Multigenerational families can reconnect and share memorable moments while sailing with Princess Cruises. Ships feature

plenty of adult-focused areas, plus an array of family-friendly staterooms, multiple pools, performances and entertainment, and fun-filled activities the whole family can enjoy together. Princess Cruises’ partnership with Discovery shines in its Camp Discovery youth programs and Discovery at SEA enrichment experiences. The cruise line’s specialty restaurants are perfect settings for family group celebration dinners and reunion gatherings.

The Princess Celebration Group Program offers attractive pricing and potential group perks such as onboard spending money and cocktail parties.

SMALL SHIP FAMILY CRUISES

Destination-oriented families seeking to reunite in a more intimate environment will enjoy small ship group cruises.

With the growing interest in expedition travel, Lindblad Expeditions is seeing more families and multigenerational groups on its fleet of ships ranging in size from 28 to 148 guests. Sought-after family cruise destinations include the Galápagos, Baja California, Alaska, and some Antarctica itineraries. On select sailings, Lindblad Expeditions offers its exclusive National Geographic Explorers program for kids and teens under 18. Family and group discounts are also available.

River cruises are also increasingly popular with family travelers and multigenerational groups, providing a stress-free way to explore some of the world’s most enchanting destinations together. AmaWaterways is experiencing strong multigenerational family demand for its exceptional small-ship river cruise

sailings. The line offers a wide variety of included daily excursions to suit family members’ diverse needs and interests. Eight AmaWaterways ships feature connecting staterooms perfectly designed for families and multigenerational groups, plus triple and quad accommodations are available on the line’s newest ships in Europe. Some ships have swimming pools and hot tubs, and complimentary bikes are available. TECHNOLOGY TO THE RESCUE

These clever apps help you keep your family reunion vacation running on track

Between the planning stage and even after arriving at your holiday destination, there are many moving parts when it comes to taking a family group vacation. Often, the excitement of reuniting with loved ones can be overshadowed by the stress of planning and ensuring that everything goes smoothly.

Apps are an efficient way to keep plans in place before, during and after a family group vacation with a variety of useful information and tools at your fingertips. While travel apps give you the ability to plan and organize your itinerary by allowing you to search and compare prices for flights, hotels and rental cars, there are other apps that help make the planning process easier and more convenient by helping you stay on schedule, track, split expenses, share locations, and create a common cloudbased album to upload photos.

Here are five recommended vacation apps to make things easy for you:

PACKPOINT: Are you one of those who packs everything but the kitchen sink when traveling? A dilemma for many, overpacking and underpacking are predicaments even the most seasoned travelers find themselves experiencing. While it is easier to pack for yourself, when packing for the entire family, knowing what to take and what to leave behind can be difficult. To help make things easier for everyone, PackPoint is a much-needed packing app that helps you organize what you need to pack based on length of travel, weather at your destination and any activities planned during your trip.

GPSMYCITY: If your family reunion is in a city, GPSmyCity is a helpful tool with curated self-guided walking itineraries. Accompanied with audio guides that highlight the sights and landmarks along the way, it can help keep kids engaged as you explore. One of the key features of this app is the option of downloading tours offline, so you even if there is no internet connection, you will still be able to navigate on your own without getting lost.

SPLITWISE: While enjoying yourself on a family group vacation, the last thing you want to do is math. Splitwise is a useful app for a family group traveling together to keep track of shared expenses. It allows users to input the cost of an expense, assign it to one or more people, and then calculates how much each person owes. This can help prevent disagreements about who paid for what during a trip.
