Welcome

Creating an Innovative Manufacturing & Supply Chain Eco-System Dear Delegate, Welcome to the 3rd annual National Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition. We have implemented a number of significant changes to this year’s event to create a more inclusive and rewarding day for both delegates and exhibitors. We have chosen Citywest as our new home as it offers all visitors a trouble free journey and plenty of free parking. We have also introduced a Jobs Expo which is designed to promote career opportunities in manufacturing and supply chain to university graduates and experienced technical industry professionals.

I

reland has developed a high level of plant engineering and large-scale construction expertise. It also has the experience and skills to manage outsourced production on an international scale. Such a solid and deep skill base has earned Ireland an excellent reputation as a centre of Manufacturing excellence, Logistics planning and Advanced Manufacturing management practices. The successful transition from Manufacturing to Advanced Manufacturing capabilities was achieved by targeting high-value Manufacturing operations that are knowledge, capital and skills intensive. A highly adaptable, creative and innovative workforce was a key element behind this successful transition. This high-value sector demands the addition of value across the whole product lifecycle from Research and Development to Design, Distribution, Marketing and Support Services. Building and sustaining competitive advantage requires advanced skills, expertise and experience, which Ireland’s high-skills, knowledge-based economy delivers. Now in its third year and firmly established as an All-Ireland ‘must-attend’ annual event, the National Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition provides a forum for manufacturers and operators involved throughout the supply chain from across Ireland - North and South - to gather to discuss pressing issues facing Irish industry. The event attracts and connects key stakeholders across the full spectrum of Irish manufacturing, including the food, pharmaceutical, medical, chemical, life sciences and electronics manufacturing sectors. This one day conference and exhibition will feature over 120 keynote speakers and 130 exhibitors, displaying the latest jobs, technology, education and innovation available to Irish industry. The theme of the 2016 event is ‘Creating an Innovative Manufacturing & Supply Chain Eco-System’ and an impressive line-up of speakers from manufacturing, academia and government agencies will explore the key problems, challenges and opportunities facing Irish industry. The speakers at the Conference have been carefully selected from senior management within Irish industry and academia, who have a successful track record of delivering quantifiable results in sustainable manufacturing and throughout the supply chain, and who can offer delegates a clear pathway to enhancing competitiveness and innovation. Supporting Associations

I hope you have an enjoyable and informative day at the Citywest Hotel. This event will continue to be held on an annual basis and is completely reliant on the generosity of time of the key speakers, the support of exhibitors and our corporate sponsors. If you wish to contribute or participate at next year’s event in any way please do not hesitate to contact me. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the supporting associations and government agencies who have made this day possible.

Tom Ferris President CILT Tom Ferris is a consultant economist. He has been President of the CIT and was formerly the Department of Transport’s Senior Economist. He will argue that when the new Government enters office it should launch a significant public investment programme. That is required following the slashing of investment during the past seven years and the need for ‘catch-up’ following the cut-backs that were required by the Troika during the fiscal crisis. But it is not just a matter of allocating funds. Government Departments need to clearly operate a robust appraisal system to ensure that all investment proposals meet the criteria of consistency with the strategic goals of government, and meet the evaluation tests for inclusion of projects in an investment plan. Projects should only be given the ‘green-light’, after they have successfully met the assessment standards laid-down by Government.

SeaChange delivers Lean Risk Management Solutions in the areas of H&S, Quality, Standard Operating Procedures and Leadership Development to Multinational FMCGs, Food & Beverage, Pharma and Public Bodies in Ireland and internationally. The success of any organisational system or standard depends on the degree to which the person on the ground is connected to it. The way in which organisations communicate standards can leave a gap, typically resulting in a disconnect between operations and management, leading to unsustainable results. SeaChange Solutions address this gap through designing & implementing LEAN risk management solutions that are visual, creating habits rather than rules, and treating people as part of the solution. Post intervention results for H&S, for example, include a 50% reduction in accident rates and an 80% improvement in staff safety engagement and overall safety culture. www.seachange.ie VISION ID www.visionid.ie

BioMarin is a world leader in developing and commercializing innovative biopharmaceuticals for rare diseases driven by genetic causes At BioMarin, we focus on developing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with serious and lifethreatening rare genetic diseases. BioMarin remains steadfast to its original mission—to bring new treatments to market that will make a big impact on small patient populations. These patient populations are mostly children, suffering from diseases so rare, that the entire patient population can number as few as 1,000 people worldwide. These conditions are often inherited, difficult to diagnose, progressively debilitating, have few, if any, treatment options, and are usually ignored. Time is critical to patients with rare diseases, and we strive to quickly develop important therapies for them. The efficiency and speed of our research, development, manufacturing, and commercial efforts is at the heart of our ability to urgently deliver therapies. Our track record of developing and commercializing new treatments has been significantly faster than the industry average and is ingrained in our culture. CenterWatch, a leading source for global clinical trial information, has named it one of the fastest drug developers in the industry. BioMarin was also ranked tenth on Forbes list of innovative companies in 2015. As a biopharmaceutical company, our success stems from our focus on science and the hope our therapies can bring to patients. We are world leaders in metabolic disease innovation with multiple products commercialized and a growing pipeline of product candidates to address unmet medical needs. We continue to fuel our R&D engine by looking for opportunities that align with our strengths and competencies. And we relentlessly pursue exciting, early-stage science that has the potential to change the course of disease. A constant in BioMarin’s culture is how patients continue to drive us. The passion and dedication that our employees bring to work each day is a testament to the inspiration our patients provide, and the knowledge of the impact we can make in their lives. www.bmrn.com CAPPA WWW.CAPPA.IE

As we enter into the second half of our 30th Anniversary our mission to represent and support business remains as relevant as when the Chamber was founded. Many things have changed since 1984 when Kevin Molloy and other local business men came together believing business working together through a Chamber rather than in isolation would create a better environment to do business in. That spirit of working together now extends to the many strategic partnerships the Chamber has. Our partnerships range from The Business Sustainability Programme which we run in partnership with South Dublin County Council through to education initiatives with our Institute of Technology. I am very lucky to be taking on the Chamber Presidency at a time when we are beginning to see more light at the end of the tunnel. We are hearing business owners speak in very positive tones about growth, expansion and employing more people. Coming from a family run SME I have seen at first hand the difficulties and challenges we have all faced, the many days when that light at the end of the tunnel seemed not to be working. Together through our chamber we can create a better environment for us all to grow our businesses.

The Bureau 2000 Group is ‘Your Complete Office Supplier’. We are a family run business, set up by Michael Deane in 1992, and now managed by his son, Gavin.

At our Chamber lunch I heard Jim Gavin speaking about his success with the Dublin Football team. It was refreshing to hear that even when you do everything right you are not always guaranteed the results you desire but it is so important to get back up and try again. We are all part of the team that makes business happen. Coming together as a Chamber for our area enables us all to have a better future.

The Bureau 2000 Group provides all Office Equipment Sales, IT Consultancy and Support, Office Supplies, Furniture and Facilities for all office environments.

As a nation we are very poor at taking the time to look back at what we have achieved, we certainly don’t brag about our strengths and we are very quick to point out
