Time for business, time for trends at Tendence 2012
T
endence 2012 is the biggest order and trend platform for the second half of the year, offering professional buyers insight into the latest products for the coming autumn, winter and Christmas season and an outlook over new products for the coming year’s spring and summer season. This year’s edition is set to give yet another impressive demonstration of its strength as Ambiente’s sister show with more than 2,100 exhibitors expected to present their latest ideas and products. Tendence offers over 52,000 visitors from all over the world an unrivalled opportunity to round off retail collections in the second half of the year. The unique ‘Living’ and ‘Giving’ sections provide the perfect meeting place for trade visitors to discover new innovations, place orders and meet new and existing clients. tendence 2012
24th – 28th August 2012 Frankfurt am Main modern interior design elements from furnishing and small pieces of furniture and design and luxury products, to trendy articles and outdoor furniture. In the ‘Giving’ section, everything revolves around presents from individual gift articles and trendy lifestyle products to high-grade jewellery. Once again, this year’s ‘Giving’ section brings together international key players to display their latest collections in Halls 9, 10 and 11.1. Additionally, ‘Giving’ reveals the newest trends, presents young and innovative talents and offers trade visitors a chance to create imaginative assortments thanks to the breadth, depth and topicality of the products on show. Jewellery is the classic idea when it comes to gifts and will be the subject of special attention at Tendence 2012. You can find the entire scope of the consumer goods market in Frankfurt this August, through 10 clearly structured product groups containing everything you need to create your own successful assortment. The five ‘Giving’ product areas are Young & Trendy, Gifts Unlimited, Personal Accessories, Carat and Passage gifts. Alongside these are another five ‘Living’ product areas offering a comprehensive and global range of products, through the Loft, Interiors & Decorations, Seasonal Decorations, Passage Home & Garden and Passage Table & Kitchen sections. At Tendence, special events show off the latest trends attracting attention from the consumer goods industry. This year’s edition is focusing on aspects such as design and sustainability, creativity and emotionality in an extensive trend and design programme held in a high-end hall environment. Alongside the latest trends, Tendence also offers new young designers a platform to introduce their innovative design ideas through the ‘Talents’ and ‘Next’ promotional programmes. ‘Talents’ displays fresh ideas from 35 young designers in the Loft and Carat sections of the fair, introducing their interior design and jewellery ideas to buyers.
The ‘Next’ promotional area aims to give young companies the opportunity to present their new jewellery creations to the entire consumer goods industry. The ‘Home & Trend Award’ aims to provide orientation in the consumer goods market. The LifeCare Initiative aims to honor consumer goods that are distinguished not only by their individual qualities but also by their overall concept. ‘Trend Product of the Year 2012’ is an objective and highly valued seal of quality because the products nominated and chosen generate specific buying impulses and stand for top quality and authenticity. Therefore, the judging criteria include not only design, innovativeness, product benefits and ergonomics but also ecological aspects, sustainability and resource conservation. The award-winning products will be chosen by an independent jury of experts and consumers. During Tendence, there will be a special ‘Home & Trend Award’ exhibition in Hall 9.0. With just a few months left before Tendence returns, the excitement is building for what promises to be yet another successful show. Despite the current economic struggle, Tendence is more in demand than ever, not only as an international ordering platform but also as a centre for design and trends! See you in August!

spoke with Laura Pasquetti, Homeware Buyer for The Kilkenny Group, about Trends for 2012, the importance of discovering new talent and products and Trade Shows in Ireland, the UK and Europe. 1. Can you give a brief history on the Kilkenny Group? Kilkenny is Ireland's Largest Emporium for Irish Designed Products. Our philosophy is to offer customers a modern and contemporary interpretation based on the very best in Irish traditions. Kilkenny’s stores have been associated with Ireland’s craft and design industry for over four decades. In 1998 the company was re-launched as Kilkenny, a name that reflected both its link to the original Kilkenny Design Workshop ideal and the desire to move confidently forward into the future. The following year saw Kilkenny become an independent entity, under the directorship of sisters Marian O’Gorman and Bernadette Kelleher Nolan. Under their guidance the Nassau Street shop and restaurant continued to flourish, whilst new Kilkenny outlets have been opened in Killarney, Galway, Cork, Cashel Trim and Shanagarry But contemporary tastes are far more sophisticated than they once were, and the constant demand for new and better products has encouraged the Group to become more flexible and imaginative in its approach to retailing. Many of Kilkenny’s suppliers, such as the potters Louis Mulcahy and Stephen Pearce, have been internationally recognised as masters of their art. Irish glass has also made its name abroad, with companies like Jerpoint and Tipperary Crystal emerging alongside the long established Waterford Crystal. The years since the opening of the Kilkenny Design Workshops have seen Irish craft and design evolve into a booming domestic and export industry. But its ongoing success still depends on the nurturing of new talent and products. As it faces into the future, Kilkenny is proud to be a part of this process. Kilkenny currently have eight own brand stores in Dublin,
Cork, Galway and Killarney, Cashel, Shanagarry and Trim while also retailing from two sister brand stores known as Christy’s in Killarney, Co. Kerry and Cobh, Co. Cork 2. What Top Trends are anticipated for 2012 to influence sales figures? Retro, vintage florals are strong trends again this year, with bold colours also making an impact. 3. Are the Suppliers to the Kilkenny Brand primarily Irish Companies? Yes, suppliers to the Kilkenny Brand are primarily Irish. Kilkenny’s ethos is to promote and support Irish design and we do this whenever possible. It is very important for us as a company to support other Irish businesses and we will always lend our support to an Irish product if it meets with our criteria. However from time to time we do bring in products that are not Irish as we also want to give our customers a wider variety of products and price points to choose from. 4. How important is discovering new talent and products for the Kilkenny Brand? It is very important. There are so many talented Irish designers out there and when we find the right mix between their product and Kilkenny, it is so exciting, to introduce these products to our customers and be instrumental in growing their brand alongside Kilkenny. It is also important for Kilkenny to

kilkenny group profile continue being innovative and give our customer what they want; something different and Irish. 5. What initially entices you to a new supplier? Initially I am attracted to a new supplier because of their product. It must be of an innovative design, have unique qualities and above all fit with the Kilkenny brand. 6. Can you explain the buying process, from identifying a potential new product to getting it on the shelves of your stores? Having seen potential in a new product, I would initially arrange to meet with the supplier and review look over the product, taking in design, innovation, quality and where it would sit in store. If the product is suitable, a retail price is agreed with the supplier 7. What advice would you give companies that are trying to get their products on the shelves in the Kilkenny stores? My advice would be, to be prepared and have a refined and finished product. Good packaging, design, presentation and quality are key. Be realistic with prices and always have the consumer in mind when pricing items. Background history is always good as people love a good story behind a product. Be bold, original and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries to produce a unique product. When the supplier is fully prepared it is then a good time to approach companies. 8. How important are Trade Shows in Ireland, the UK & Europe for the Kilkenny Brand? Irelands “ Showcase” is our most important show for obvious reasons and it gives us a great opportunity to see what new Irish talent is available and it also enables us to catch up with our existing suppliers. UK & European shows are also busy for us, as a lot of Irish suppliers are showing outside of Ireland. Also these shows allow us to keep up to date with the latest trends and developments in homewares and gifts on a global scale. 9. When attending a Trade Show, would you generally plan who you are going to visit prior to the show? Absolutely, it’s important to have a plan as some shows are vast and it takes a long time to properly navigate all the halls. Ideally you make planned visits on the first day and after that it’s all about finding the right products.
10. How important are Corporate Clients to the Kilkenny Brand? Corporate Clients are extremely important to the Group. We offer competitive added value services for any clients considering using Kilkenny as their corporate partner of choice. Contact our Marketing department for more information. 11. The Kilkenny Store in Nassau Street won The Store of The Year Award 2012, you must have been delighted? It was a fantastic achievement and I personally was over the moon. Having worked with Kilkenny for many years now and seen how hard the team has worked to achieve this, it makes it all worthwhile that they finally got the recognition they deserve. 12. Kilkenny.com is now launched, have you seen a lot of interest from the UK, Europe and American in buying Irish Products online? www.kilkennyshop.com has been launched 3 years now and to date has proven very successful. Sales have grown very well in the past number of years despite the economic difficulties. Our customers come from all over the world to buy the very best of Irish design. And the US is certainly one of our most successful markets. This is primarily due to the number of expats living there. We are planning to relaunch our website this March which we are very excited about. 13. What do you particularly enjoy about being a Top Buyer for the Kilkenny Brand? I enjoy sourcing and developing new products and showcasing the new talent that i uncover. Growing a new brand from the beginning and watching it flourish excites me. 14. What are the plans for advancing the company’s portfolio in 2012? In 2011 we opened two new stores, in Trim, Co. Meath and Stillorgan, Co. Dublin. These stores have given the brand a stronger footprint in Ireland which we intend to develop in 2012. Kilkenny are constantly researching new store opportunities that fit our strategic expansion plans, therefore we expect ti increase our footprint in Ireland again this year.

P
otadóireacht na Caolóige near Clogher beach, Dingle, Co. Kerry. This scenic spot is where you’ll find Louis Mulcahy’s workshop and pottery showrooms, where each piece of hand crafted stoneware pottery is dreamed up and designed by Louis. Once he’s satisfied with a new design, the production team, which currently consists of about ten people, will produce it for sale in the showrooms and shops around Ireland that stock Louis Mulcahy pottery. It’s not simply a case of popping a pot into the oven though - once made, each piece is left to dry for up to a week before being fired for the first time at a temperature of 1,000ºC. The next step is glazing. All the pottery’s glazes have been devised by Louis to his own specific recipes. The pots are either dipped or sprayed, and any decoration or motif is applied by freehand brushwork. Last but not least comes the glaze firing, which reaches an incredible 1300º C. It’s these high firing temperatures that make the pottery so durable - all the pots are oven and dishwasher proof. And if you want to see how well the pottery stands up to day to day use, the Pottery Caifé serves its locally sourced menu on Louis Mulcahy tableware. There’s a huge selection of pots available, from tiny eggcups to dinner sets, tea sets, and ovenware, as well as www.louismulcahy.com elegant lamp bases and hand-painted T: +353 66 9156229 lampshades, decorative vases, flowerE: dingle@louismulcahy.com pots, and towering ali-baba style urns.

EDITION STEPS UP INTO HOME Debenhams announces the roll out the successful Edition concept into its Home division for Spring 2012.
L
aunched into womenswear in 2010, the Edition concept is a fluid platform for design talent to reach a mainstream audience, through launching a capsule collection at Debenhams. Designers are committed for a limited time, allowing customers all over the Ireland to access cutting edge design on their local high street. Ashley Thomas, Carol Lake and Yukari Sweeney are the first designers on the Edition Home stage, and will create collections that include soft accessories, bed linen, chinaware, travel accessories and wall art. Slightly different in its approach from the Edition Womenswear collection at Debenhams, Edition Home sees a real mixture of both experienced and fresh design talent, ranging from recent graduate Ashley to industry veterans Carol and Yukari, who have been hidden talents behind the scenes until now. The designers will create collections for Edition Home for a maximum of three seasons, when new designers will be given an opportunity to launch collections. There will however, be an opportunity for the Edition designers to become fully fledged ‘Designers at Debenhams’, and this will be dictated by customer reaction to each Edition brand. Edition Home will be launched exclusively into Belfast, Mahon Point & Patrick Street Cork, Blackrock, Blanch ardstown, Henry Street Dublin and Galway, aswell as online at www. debenhams.ie It will be merchandised as a separate product destination in the homeware department, pulled together as if it were a small boutique shop-in-shop. Prices range from ?7.50 ?70. Said Steve Lightfoot, Divisional Director, Home, at Debenhams, “It’s such an exciting, original concept, and the designers are really passionate about bringing their art and creativity to a wider, mainstream audience. The collections are really individual and mirror the different designers’ style and quirky inter pretations of their surroundings. We are making unique design accessible to our customers on a national scale – which is something we are very proud of. There is certainly a ‘one-off’, small boutique feel about the range, which is something very new to Debenhams, and we are confident that our customers will love it.” Said Yukari Sweeney, “I was so happy when I found out I would be working with Debenhams to create a collection. The Debenhams team supported my idea whilst giving me good guidance and knowledge from their years of experience. It was amazing and gratifying seeing my designs appear in finished products. My Edition collection is about celebrating and enjoying London, and discovering all of the things that it has to offer. Whether you have lived here for a long time or are just visiting, it always has the ability to surprise and entertain you.” Said Ashley Thomas, "Working with Debenhams is a dream come true, I feel so privileged to be one of the Edition designers. My
collection is conversational, quirky and offers a playful touch to the home." Said Carol Lake, “Flowers, seasons, nature and colour have been my life and passion for many years now and I sincerely hope that my Edition range showcases that passion. To be given a free hand by Debenhams to paint flowers for my own homeware range has been invigorating. After years of anonymity, designing for other names and brands, I can't wait to see my range on display in stores and online.I feel very proud that with Debenhams support, I have designed an affordable range to put my talents in the spotlight.” Known for its extensive designer portfolio, which already sees Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda Ilincic, Preen and Jonathan Kelsey make up the Edition womenswear and accessories ranges, Debenhams is evolving the concept with the three new home designers.
CAROL LAKE Carol Lake is an incredibly passionate and talented designer and artist with over 25 years experience. Carol’s designs are influenced by the four seasons with the underlying colour in all her creations being various shades of green. Carol’s debut range for Edition is the culmination of her life’s experience which is reflected in a vibrant collection of interiors that will be an instant household classic. The ‘Rose’ bed linen, tea set, keepsakes and fragranced candles will inspire Britain to get back to nature.
ASHLEY THOMAS London-born Ashley comes from an artistic background. Her work is conversational, in that every piece tells a story about the characters that appear on them. Ashley’s hero pieces from her Edition collection include the wall art and cushions. The curious style of Ashley’s work aims to make fans of her designs wonder what the characters upon them are doing, especially the enigmatic ‘Henry the cat’ that appears on the character cushions.
YUKARI SWEENEY Yukari was born in Japan and spent her formative years working at a Japanese fashion house, Yukari is an expert in silk screen printing and her design aesthetic is English tradition mixed with Japanese style. Her collection for Edition is both striking and eccentric. London is the key reference for this individual collection of interiors and lifestyle accessories. STOCKISTS: This exclusive new collaboration of designer homeware will be exclusively stocked online at www.debenhams.ie and instore - Belfast, Mahon Point & Patrick Street Cork, Blackrock, Blanchardstown, Henry Street Dublin and Galway.

Guide to Maternity Services
C
uidiú, The Irish Childbirth Trust, have launched ‘Bump2Babe: The Consumer Guide to Maternity Services in Ireland’. This guide is filled with useful information for mums and mums-to-be including birthing statistics, policies, practices and services. The information was gathered from all 22 maternity units across the country. This unique guide offers detailed comparisons of services. It compares intervention practices such as induction, caesareans and episiotomy rates. This guide highlights how there is a complete lack of standardisation across the maternity units in Ireland, showing that policies and practices vary from unit to unit. This means that how a woman gives birth could depend on where she lives. The statistics show considerable variations for first-time mums regarding intervention methods, especially induction, caesarean births and episiotomy rates. In fact, some hospitals have shown to have double the rate of other hospitals. This guide can be accessed online and is very easy to navigate for
expecting parents. It will help prepare pregnant women for their labour and will also make them aware of their options when choosing their maternity unit. Mums will now be able to make an informed and practical decision regarding their care. The project was part-funded by the HSE and Citizens Information Board and part-funded by Cuidiú’s sponsors, Pampers. This is part of the ongoing support that Pampers have given to Cuidiú and mumsto-be. Pampers have also recently launched a 'newborn essential pack' which can be applied for through hospitals and antenatal classes nationwide, as well as on www.pampers.ie The guide is available on www.bump2babe.ie.

T
iny Tots Silver Prints came about when I was looking for a unique keepsake following the birth of my little girl in 2009. I came across silver fingerprint jewellery and fell in love with the idea - a beautiful piece of jewellery and a treasured reminder of my daughter. I hope you enjoy browsing the site. There is something for everyone - a charm for her, cufflinks for him and even pawprint jewellery for pet lovers! If you would like to order something which isn't featured, please just Contact Us so that we can discuss possibilities. Please also have a look at the FAQ page for more information on the jewellery, how to take prints and much more.
Fingerprint Jewellery Our fingerprint charms and cufflinks are made from 99% pure silver and are polished to a high shine. Featuring a child or adult's
fingerprint, these pieces are a permanent keepsake to treasure forever. Children under the age of 18 months to 2 years may not have sufficiently defined fingerprints to make a good impression and it would be better to take a look at the hand and footprint jewellery range instead. Hand & Footprint Jewellery There are very few things as special as a child's handprint and footprint so why not immortalise them in silver to carry with you forever! We create a wide range of pieces, from mini outline charms to pendants, cufflinks and keyrings. There are no age restrictions at all for these pieces and they are perfect for small babies who do not have defined fingerprints. The hand and footprints are our personal favourites at Tiny Tots! You don't need to pick the shape of charm you would like at this stage, you can ponder for a while and just include it on the order form once you have taken the prints! n a cold and windy mid-summers day in Donegal Thomas Joseph sits peacefully waiting for inspiration or humour for his next painting of a sheep? The truth of the matter is Tom is painting the landscape, a winding river, a country lane, or a cottage, the subjects that have interested him for many years. His aspirations for recognition as a painter, in a very different traditional style, have been diminished today to the Irish artist who paints silly sheep. The regular painting trips have continued and quite frequently a silly sheep appears from somewhere. Tom enjoys the fame and quietly accepts his good fortune. In frustration ten years ago he combined several painting techniques and low and behold a picture of an odd looking sheep was the conclusion. After showing several of the mystery paintings to visitors and friends, they laughed and thus began the Whimsical World of Thomas Joseph. Following a year or two of success selling prints from the boot (trunk) of his car to the Irish gift trade Morrigan Ltd appeared and hesitantly developed the brand. The hesitation was a question about ‘good art’ as the style was somewhat ‘rough’ but was immediately full of appeal. All at Morrigan still scratch their heads and ask the inevitable question about ‘when is it going to end?’ The opinion is that it never will end. The style and Tom have become ‘ewe-nique’ and a permanent part of a mystery still to be answered maybe it is just honest fun? Visitors to Tom’s gallery close to Carrickfergus Castle, on the shores of Belfast Lough will see a very small room which doubles as a studio and a shop. Tom’s wife Pat explains the gallery as an excuse to meet many of his fans. Gee are ‘ewe’ the real Thomas Joseph? He continues to smile and loves the attention. There are many sheep designs, pictures, and products on the

market but Thomas Joseph is ‘the man’. The first ever large format calendar will be launched in 2012, for 2013, following many requests. Each of the past eight years has seen the smaller desk calendar being sold in record numbers. The new large format calendar will be a collection of classic pictures from the past and will be available internationally, with a major launch in North America and Australasia. Two other formats of the same calendar will be available. For the serial collectors Morrigan Ltd will also be releasing a new 2013 edition. Not surprisingly these calendars sell primarily through the summer months and are very popular with tourists from Easter onwards. They sell to tourists of every nationality even though they quite often misunderstand the play on words, they just like the pictures. The promise of kitchen textiles has been slightly delayed until June when stock of Aprons, Tea towels, gloves, etc will be available. Trays which are food safe are now available in six designs, with more to follow during 2013. New designs mugs, coasters, placemats are all available. Essentially, the kitchen textile and tabletop accessories will be a developing part of Morrigan Limited plans in the future. The stationery range of cards, notebooks, and prints, and other items will continue with new products periodically throughout the coming year.

he Pure London team will be taking part in the Great Fashion Cycle Ride from London to Paris with the Ethical Justice Foundation (EJF) this July. The 300 mile cycle ride from London to Paris will pass through picturesque countryside, crossing the Channel and continuing through the small villages and medieval market towns of Northern France and finishing at the Eiffel Tower. EJF is a registered charity established in 2000 to empower people who suffer most from environmental abuses to find peaceful ways of preventing them. EJF are involved in a number of valuable campaigns all over the world, including one particularly close to the heart of the fashion industry, the 'Pick your cotton carefully' campaign. Katy Davis, Event Manager of Pure London commented “A few months ago I agreed to cycle with some of my colleagues from London to Paris to support the EJF. We have chosen to champion the ‘Pick your cotton carefully’ campaign, with all funds raised through the ride going directly to help the EJF in their plight to eradicate child labour and the deadliest pesticides from cotton production, alongside promoting organic alternatives. We’re all really looking forward to the challenge – it’s going to be a true test of strength and stamina.” EJF’s fashion campaign is focused on ending the use of forced child
labour and harmful pesticide use in the cotton industry. Whether it is state enforced, or child trafficking, millions of children around the world face severe exploitation in cotton production. EJF also campaigns for a global ban on the most toxic pesticides which in total kill over 20,000 people a year. Katherine Ross from the EJF commented “EJF is proud to be working with Pure London on The Great Fashion Cycle, raising awareness and essential funds for the charity’s ‘Pick Your Cotton Carefully' campaign. Cotton should be improving lives, but too often this ‘white gold’ brings misery to some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people. Pure London has supported EJF’s campaign for the past four years, and we are thrilled to announce four members of the team are saddling up for EJF’s Great Fashion Cycle in aid of the world's unseen fashion victims. Linking Europe's top two fashion cities – London and Paris – EJF’s Great Fashion Cycle is the ride of a lifetime!” FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT: Kate Stafford or Sharon Good at Good Results PR T: 0207 553 2080 E: kates@goodresults.co.uk E: sharong@goodresults.co.uk

he Seychelles Islands need little introduction as the perfect venue for a wedding, honeymoon, anniversary or just that impromptu, romantic break. For many years, just the name ‘Seychelles’ has conjured up magical images of a necklace of surreally beautiful islands, lost to the world, and Time itself, where dappled sapphire seas conspire with silver sands and emerald palms to offer the very best in romantic experiences. Even if such a sublime location required endorsement, well, that has recently been provided in the most emphatic way by the couple behind the wedding of the year: the newly-married Duke & Duchess of Cambridge who chose to honeymoon in Seychelles, having already visited the islands once before. The royal couple are only the latest in a long line of V.V.I.P’s who make the pilgrimage to islands considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world. They are attracted, not only by the extraordinary natural beauty and tranquillity of the place, but also by the remoteness of the islands from the madding crowd and from the cohorts of paparazzi who find it difficult to follow them there. When you add to the mix the innate romantic ambiance that holds sway over Seychelles’ 115 islands, the natural friendliness of their tiny, 87,000- strong population and the grand diversity of experiences that the islands offer, it’s easy to see why a Seychelles’ Romantic Holiday is so high on many people’s bucket list. So, what of the nuts & bolts of such a holiday? What are the other advantages and benefits of the ultimate in romantic holidays? Top of the list must come the fact that the Seychelles Islands offer such diversity - not only in the islands themselves (74 low-lying coral atolls and 41, steep, granitic Inner Isles), but also in their flora & fauna, ethnicity, architecture, cuisine, traditions and activities. The islands offer amazing diving, fishing, sailing, trekking, eco-holidays, spa & wellness vacations and golf. It is exactly this heady blend of attributes which underpins the Seychelles tourism logo: The
28
Seychelles Islands…another world and Seychelles’ particular style of tourism, announced in mid 2010 by President James Michel who also holds the portfolio for tourism. He strongly believes that Seychelles needs a diverse product base to cater for today’s tourist who is not so much looking to flop and drop as savour the experiences that the country has to offer - experiences that will take them ‘beneath the skin’ of the islands and offer them unforgettable memories of a unique place with unique attributes. Beyond a Seychelles wedding making a lot of economic sense when compared with the costs of tying the knot at home, when planning a wedding in Seychelles, it’s also handy to know that Seychelles is one country that does not require a visa from anyone. All that is required to enter the country is a return ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds for the stay to qualify for a one-month visa. Also, hotels in Seychelles perform only one wedding per day, so clients are assured of the wedding team’s full attention, right down to the minute details. Where necessary, members of the wedding team are also able to serve as witnesses. Another good bit of news is that, for British citizens getting married in Seychelles, the wedding certificate is recognised in the UK. In the case of British nationals wedding a foreigner, then an Apostille stamp will be required on the certificate so that the same

Colour with a Touch of Dutch OPI Launches Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012
O
PI celebrates colour with the Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Inspired by the country’s range of stunning shades – as seen in vivid tulips, windmill-dotted hillsides and bustling canals – the collection’s twelve shades offer a mixture of sophisticated neutrals and highly-pigmented brights. “Holland has a very unique, vibrant beauty to match its open-minded nature,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Spring is the season of colour, and the Holland Collection provides an array of pink, coral and orange hues that capture this energy. The bright lacquers are married with neutrals in new variations like red clay and sea green.” A sequence of electric brights, including a sun-lit orange (A Roll in The Hague), a hot coral-red (Red Lights Ahead…Where?) and two perfectly pretty pinks (Kiss Me on My Tulips and a lightcatching Pedal Faster Suzi!) complement their cooler counterparts in hues of glistening purple (Dutch ’Ya Just Love OPI? and Vampsterdam), while elegant neutrals (Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, Did You ’ear About Van Gogh? and Wooden Shoe Like to Know?) meet two shimmer-laced blues (I Have a Herring Problem and I Don’t Give a Rotterdam!) and a creamy sea green (Thanks a WindMillion). “Wearing these colours on fingers and toes will accessorize the season’s hottest trends,” remarks Suzi. “The varied palette of colors accentuates the looks that walked the runway, from coloured pants and ladylike frocks to long, blousy-sleeved tops and dramatic patterns.”

Providing art for all occasions, such as that special birthday, wedding or racing day outfit, prize or award, or a more casual piece, to the discerning customer for personal, gift and corporate needs through gallery, retail and web outlets. Based at Swallows Rest Studio, in rural County Limerick, Ireland, I am a Ceramic Artist, currently exploring concepts of life through the delicate strength of porcelain. Having a passion for porcelain I create unique, innovative design in handmade jewellery and sculpture gifts. Contrasts and opposites attract me. I find porcelain reflects contrast very well. With varying degrees of translucency and decoration of handmade ceramic organic forms I portray the contrasts of fragility and strength often found in life. The concepts are diverse, as is life in it’s many forms of nature, humanity and spirituality. A key inspiration is water, a fundamental life form. The fragile beauty of a single drop contrasts with the powerful strength of a crashing wave, as in the “Waterflow” piece pictured to the right. Each piece I make has a story, a reason for being, born of a concept. My challenge is to tell it’s story well.
