/ REHEARSAL DINNERS /
Planning your Wedding: Choosing the Perfect Venue The rehearsal dinner is a casual or formal gathering for the wedding party before the wedding that provides an opportunity for both families to get to know one another in a fun, relaxed environment. It’s a time to mingle, do a gift exchange, offer toasts, and provide some last-minute instruction about the actual wedding details. Rehearsal dinners vary as much as the wedding itself. They can be formal banquets or garden parties, casual picnics, or even a BBQ.
WHO TO INVITE Turn the dinner into a fabulous welcome party - if your wedding is mostly local friends and family but a few key people traveled far to come to your wedding, extend the invitation to them as a thank you for their extra effort. If you’re throwing a destination wedding or a party where at least half of the guests are from out of town, show your appreciation by inviting everyone to some kind of night-before festivity.
WHERE TO HAVE IT A sit-down dinner at a hotel ballroom or nice restaurant is the norm, but there’s no right or wrong when you plan your rehearsal dinner. Restaurants are ideal for many because couples can focus on the more meaningful details - knowing that the food is taken care of! However, relaxing in a nice backyard, at an art museum, or even on the beach are perfectly acceptable locations. It just depends on your style and budget.
16 Northen Utah Weddings // Autumn 2021
WHEN TO INVITE YOUR GUESTS To help your guests manage their schedules, send out invitations with, or shortly after, your wedidng invitations. This will not only help your guests plan their travel, but ensure timely RSVPs.
HOW TO INVITE YOUR GUESTS If your rehearsal dinner will be at a high end restaurant, hotel ballroom, etc., you should send formal invitations. If, on the other hand, your rehearsal dinner will be more casual, such as an intimate gathering at your future in-laws home, then you can be more casual with your invitations. You can send e-vites or send DIY invites. Make sure it’s clear to your guests where they need to be and when. Your guests will want to dress appropriately, so details are important!
SOME POINTERS
from the pros! 3 Don’t wait to book your venue 3 Use a seating chart 3 Don’t forget the bridal party gifts 3 Delegate responsibilities 3 Stick with your wedding theme 3 Have fun, but don’t stay out too late

Tablescapes 101:
Steps to a great Tablescape! by Susie Young
Flowers are the finishing and most pleasing touch to complete a beautiful wedding. They bring the energy and life to the party and add JOY. I personally am biased because of my profession but without beautiful blossoms or touches of greenery, the table is just not complete. If you can afford to hire a wedding planner, do it, because they’re incredibly talented and help with this whole process. This article applies to all brides and I would love to share three simple steps to help you with your wedding planning adventure.
1
Pick a theme You don’t have to be so specific and say that you want per say “Bridgerton” but select a vibe or color scheme with certain standards or guidelines that you have in mind. It does help to have a vision board that interests you and that let’s your florist and stylist begin to gather ideas and take it to the next level. I love textures with a variety of flowers but maybe you want something light and airy in soft romantic tones, all greenery with touches of white blooms, or to be bold and daring with jewel toned blossoms. Nothing is wrong so long as it’s beautifully “YOU!” Embrace you as a couple because it’s all the little things about you that makes your day extraordinary.
2
Choose the style of your table linens if you want them, your specific china or dinnerware (you can never go wrong with white plates in a cool shape then add a unique charger.) The setting could be enhanced with textured napkins in a fun knot, fold or napkin ring. The flatware could be in wood, gold and or silver. The goblets could be tinted or they could be classic stemware. Your table is almost complete…. Remember it usually is what speaks to you first and catches your eye. This is how I roll. My first instinct is always right and never fails as I plan a beautiful tablescape. Every specific element creates a masterpiece. If this is overwhelming then
26 Northen Utah Weddings // Autumn 2021
ask for help. I know that I love collaborating with other professionals because together we can create magic. (Breathe, I did that part fast because the next step is my favorite!)
3
I saved the best for last because I like to finish with beautiful flowers, which is my favorite element for a gorgeous table. Do you like classic, timeless, and elegant with beautiful whites garden roses, hydrangea, and ranunculus enhanced by greenery in a beautiful compote? Do you want it to be organic with a natural effect by using only greenery and candles? Smilax, Italian ruscus, seeded and dollar eucalyptus are always gorgeous and create depth and contrast against a beautiful linen. Is your style Boho minimalist with pampas grass, flat palms, protea and other dried textures? Maybe you want a “just picked look” with a flair of explosion grass, kangaroo paws, pincushions, anemones and poppy pods as a wild statement. I didn’t talk about them all because there’s so many styles to choose from. I know I prefer flowers designed with movement, texture and a whimsical feel. I want my tablecape and specifically the flowers to tell a story. Tell your story about you and your fiance with everything you choose because that’s the only way to do it. Have fun, don’t be shy but be bold and be you! Here’s some beautiful ideas of a beautiful table that I helped to create with an amazing team of creative professionals. Our team thought of everything for this inspiration shoot, from the starburst chargers that matched the bride’s crown to the imported cutlery, the tablescape isn’t just pretty, it’s an experience. Shades of subtle mauve and sage are complemented by pops of coral and blue, reminiscent of gilded portraits of ancient deities. A cohesive theme should immerse your guests in your wedding vision, they should be right there in the fantasy with you. Everything should tell a story and this story is ours to share with you.
With tons of light and gold elements, these photos by Brooke Bakken Photography are glowing! Wish Blossom Flowers created all of these stunning florals and each flower adds to the narrative. The Commercial Club provided the perfect backdrop for this elegant and overthe-top shoot. Read on to hear more from Betsy Barker of Betsy Couture Vintage Wedding Gowns who was the stylist and from Susie Young of Wish Blossom Flowers who was the floral designer who designed the beautiful florals.

This shoot was styled around the beautiful vintage Brown Rose china pattern by Royal Copenhagen. The delicate nature of this pattern lends itself to the simple beauty of the gold starburst chargers and the brass & wood Siamese flatware. I love creating juxtaposition within a table setting to add charm and create an unexpected look. Tiny brass boxes from Jerusalem act as place card holders, as well as a small gift” - Styled by Betsy Barker of Betsy Couture Vintage Wedding Gowns, Anemones are about anticipation and the beginning of a forever. Ranunculus is charmingly attractive and makes one think of a beautiful bride. The Garden Roses complete it all because they symbolize timeless romance. Every element complements the others and every glorious blossom speaks for itself to create sublime perfection and every blossom tells a story as do all of the other elements of this winning table. - florals designed by Susie Young of Wish Blossom Flowers

Planning your Wedding Day
“
I wish I had a wedding coordinator so I wasn’t stressed at my wedding.
Let’s create an unforgettable experience with Love, Kate Events.
”
We’ve heard the stories of bridezillas on their wedding day, but that doesn’t mean you need to be! Katie, Owner and Lead Planner of Love, Kate Events, can ensure that you have long-lasting memories filled with LOVE and JOY on your wedding day, instead of stress and tears. Love, Kate Events specializes in event logistics and will design a beautiful, personalized wedding just for you. “I don’t need a planner, I can do this!” While you can do it on your own,
•
Love, Kate Events always suggests hiring a month-of coordinator to help ease the stress of your special day.
•
“What’s the different between a day-of and month-of coordinator?”
•
There’s no difference when you pick the right planner. Your coordinator should start meeting with you 4-6 weeks out from your wedding date to make sure your vendors are finalized and gain a meaningful relationship with you. 38 Northen Utah Weddings // Autumn 2021

Go over your contracts to make sure there are no hidden fees or things you’re not allowed to do (e.g. open flames indoors). Meet with all your vendors to establish a connection and to give them the appropriate details of your wedding. Finalize space and layout plans to ensure a natural flow. Coordinate with vendors for how much set-up time they need. Work with you and your vendors on a perfect minute-by-minute timeline, from the time you wake up, to your grand exit and clean up. Have a special assistant assigned to the bridal party to make sure you and your party are having the BEST day. Have a back-up plan for any emergencies.

CAKE. BY ALESSANDRA
ARE FLOWERS WORTH THE INVESTMENT?
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO ORDER MY DRESS?
HOW DO I CHOOSE A CAKE FLAVOR?
The answer is absolutely! Fantastic florals can create that stunning wow factor that you are looking for on your big day. Your bouquet will be captured in a lot of your photos and it needs to showcase your personality. Florals can completely change the look of your venue and create the vibe and feel you want for your wedding. There are also ways to preserve your flowers so that they can be enjoyed for forever.
All good things come to those who wait” are the words to live by when wedding dress shopping. The dresses we pull during your appointment will be determined by your engagement timeline because dress production takes 6-8 months. Research stores, their designers, dress prices & order time before booking appointments to help you narrow down the best options available to you! The likelihood of finding your dress at the first appointment will be higher & your stress levels will be lower.
Choosing flavors is a fun part of ordering your wedding cake. It is important to have your guests in mind when picking a cake flavor. It is not uncommon to have different flavors for each tier of your cake. That way you can have your most favorite flavor and also a popular flavor for guests. Some of our most popular flavors are raspberry swirl, bourbon vanilla and almond.

SHOULD I DO ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS WITH MY PHOTOGRAPHER AHEAD OF TIME?
SHOULD I PICK UP AND RETURN DECORATIONS MYSELF, OR PAY FOR SOMEONE TO DELIVER AND SET THEM UP?
WHAT ARE QUESTIONS I SHOULD ASK WHEN TOURING A VENUE?
I’m a big fan of engagement sessions for a few reasons. First, they allow you to get comfortable in front of the camera. It takes time for most couples to warm up to being photographed and understand how I pose. Timelines can be pretty tight on wedding days and 30 minutes may be all we have for portraits - which is why I’ve found that wedding day portraits turn out so much better when couples do engagement sessions ahead of time.
Arranging your own pick-up saves money, however it adds tasks to someone’s busy day and there are stipulations. It requires a capable vehicle to haul all the items—some items require an enclosed truck bed or trailer and assembly—and the renter assumes financial breakage/ loss liability. If you opt for delivery and a set-up service the items are delivered on-time, assembled, and accurately arranged. Then after the event they’re dismantled and returned with no effort from family or friends! This lessens financial liability and reduces stress, while allowing everyone to focus on you and enjoy your special day!
Choosing a venue is an exciting decision, but it can be overwhelming. Hopefully asking these questions during the tour can help you narrow the choices! First, what their hours? Do their hours include setup and clean up time? What are your responsibilities for setup/clean up and what does the venue provide? Will you have exclusive use or will there be another wedding there that day? Do they have an exclusive vendor list or are you able to choose your own? Does the wedding package include a rehearsal and a venue coordinator? Are there restrictions on decorating? What is included in the wedding package—tables, chairs, kitchen, dressing rooms, etc.? No one likes unpleasant budget surprises, so transparent pricing is important. You want your wedding to be as carefree as possible. Congratulations on your engagement and we wish you all the best in finding the venue of your dreams!
Second, you can showcase your personalities in a more casual setting that is significant to the two of you.

Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF DESIGNING FLORALS & GOWNS? A. My favorite part has to be getting to know each bride and customizing either a dress and/or her wedding florals to bring her wedding dreams to reality. I love choosing the perfect fabric or lace to compliment her personal style. The floral aspect becomes an added element to the creative process by designing a bouquet which gives dimension and color. Whether I am sewing or designing in the floral studio, I love being able to weave each brides personality and style together through the mediums of flowers and fabrics to achieve her desired result.
.Q. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN FLORAL DESIGN?
Photographer: Madison Larsen Photography Wedding gown: Hobble Creek Design Florals: Hobble Creek Design Model: Sara Jensen Hair: Raychelle Hargadon Makeup: Chelsea Lindon Styles Venue: Copper Creek Event Center
A. My love for florals started at as a young girl when I worked at a local flower shop in my home town in Texas. The floral shop’s owner allowed me to start with prepping and cleaning flowers. Soon after I started designing smaller bouquets and florals. I was immediately in love with every detail of floral design! Fast forward 25 years through college, marriage, and 6 children later, I made the decision in 2017 to return full time to florals and sewing as a career and opened Hobble Creek Design. While I had continued being a seamstress throughout the years, bringing my floral talents to the public was a dream come true. I absolutely love my job!

How to accessorize
Your Wedding Dress
by Alyssa Roundy Phillips
Picking out a wedding dress is by far the most important part of your wedding day outfit. And while the dress is crucial, it’s not the only piece of the puzzle. Many brides don’t give much thought to what should go with the dress, which can end up being a very stressful task if left to the last minute. There are many different ways to accessorize a wedding dress and choosing the right accessories for you and your dress can start to get overwhelming. Just know that from your head to your toes (literally), the possibilities of your wedding day look are endless! At LatterDayBride, we’ve seen it all, and we want to share the tips and tricks that we’ve accumulated to guide you through the process of accessorizing for you wedding day.

COMPLEMENT YOUR DRESS You never want your accessories to take away or distract from your wedding dress. If you have accessories, make sure that they are complimenting the dress. For example, if a dress has a v-neck, we recommend adding a simple, dainty necklace. If a dress has long sleeves, maybe refrain from wearing a bracelet so there isn’t any distraction from the sleeves on the dress. Another way to make sure that your accessories are complementing the dress is to find ways to tie the elements of the dress into the accessories you wear. This may look like picking out a veil with pearls on it if there are pearls incorporated into the dress already. It could also mean wearing silver jewelry to match the silver beading stitched into your dress. If your dress has enough going on, sometimes the best accessory is no accessory!

PLAN AHEAD
DO WHAT YOU WANT
We don’t know about you, but we feel that being comfortable is one of the top priorities on your wedding day. The last thing anybody wants is for the bride to be so worried about her veil being stepped on that she can’t enjoy her own wedding day! Plan ahead with your accessories and try them on ahead of time. This way, you can make sure that your bracelet doesn’t pinch your arm hairs or that you have a way to secure your headpiece in your hair.
This day is about YOU. If wearing a veil is something you just aren’t interested in, don’t wear a veil. If your dress has silver on it, but you want to wear gold earrings, DO IT! I preach this to all of my brides, but if it’s what you want, you will like it. Your wedding is going to be unique because YOU are the one that made the decisions for it. Don’t get too wrapped up in everyone else’s opinions and preferences. Listen to yourself and what you want!
Think about the events that you have planned for the wedding. If you’re going to do a lot of dancing or moving around, maybe stick to a shorter veil that won’t drag on the ground or plan a hairstyle that allows you to remove the veil after photos. You know yourself best, so just picture what you have planned for the day of your wedding and figure out what accessories you are going to feel the best with.
As it goes with many decisions about your wedding, there really isn’t a RIGHT or WRONG answer when it comes to picking out accessories for your dress. Just make sure you are going to be happy and comfortable on your wedding day - no matter what accessories you do or don’t decide to wear!

6 Things to Consider When
Choosing a Wedding Cake!
CHECK WITH THE VENUE Some wedding venues don’t allow you to bring in an outside cake. It’s important to check with your wedding venue first, and find out if there’s a fee for not getting your cake through them. You’d be surprised how much it can cost per slice to make arrangements to bring in your own cake.
SIZE IT CAREFULLY You should have a good idea of how many guests you expect at your reception. Let your cake decorator know that, as well as how confident you are in that number. You want to avoid getting more cake than you need, but you also don’t want to be short handed. Take the advice of your cake decorator on this topic. They do this for a living!
outside layer of buttercream or ganache, providing a perfectly smooth surface with a stronger structure, more heat resistance, & a whole new world of decorating options. Without a smooth layer of frosting underneath, fondant won’t stick to the cake properly & will show every imperfection. Fondant does not affect the taste or the inside of the cake at all, so design the outside of the cake to your heart’s content. A good baker will have several generous layers of buttercream filling between the cake layers as well as on the outside underneath the fondant. Very few weddingsized cake slices even touch the outside of the cake, so it’s important that the inside has a nice cake-to-buttercream ratio. With cakes, as with people, it’s what’s INSIDE that counts!
WEATHER & LOCATION SHOP IT AROUND Wedding cakes are an important part of your wedding, and like everything else, you should shop around for the best service. The best service isn’t always just who has the lowest price. You want to know how easy it is to communicate with the cake decorator. You’ll also want to read ample reviews to know how others feel about their experiences.
THE FROSTING Fondant does NOT replace buttercream on cakes. It is a beautiful ‘skin’ placed over the
56 Northen Utah Weddings // Autumn 2021
Your options may be limited based on if you’re having an indoor or outdoor wedding. If you’re having your reception in July at a outdoor wedding venue, then you’ll need to avoid buttercream or whipped cream frosting. Nothing is worse than an icky mess that doesn’t hold up in warmer weather.
VENDOR COLLABORATION Many couples choose to put fresh flowers on their wedding cakes. If this is the case, you need to make sure your florist and cake decorator are able to communicate. Make sure you know whether it’s the florist or the cake decorator that’s going to add these final touches.

More than just a Cake!
By Kimberley Rivers owner of Cakes In The City Utah
I think everyone can agree that your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. You want everything to be flawless and beautiful. You want the perfect dress, the most beautiful venue and the weather to cooperate. However, let’s not forget about the wedding cake! A wedding cake is not simply just a random tradition or a dessert that you serve to your guests. A wedding cake is so much more symbolic and sentimental than you may have ever imagined. When the Bride and Groom cut their wedding cake on their wedding day, it is one of the first acts that they do together as a couple. The bride places her hand on the knife and the groom gently places his on top of the brides as they symbolically cut the cake together and “become one”. When they serve the cake to each other, they are symbolizing giving their lives to one another and placing their trust in each other. It symbolizes how well they will care for each other throughout the rest of their lives. The wedding cake is a focal point to the wedding celebration as it will be displayed as the centerpiece. One of the most popular wedding photos is of the bride and groom cutting their wedding cake and sharing the first piece with each other. These pictures will be seen often throughout the years and by family for many generations to come. They will be a reminder of the wonderful memories made together on your wedding day. Your guests will want to see your beautiful cake and guess at what flavors are inside. They will want to take pictures, and even wait around hoping that they’ll get a piece. Another symbolic act is serving the cake to your wedding guests. They will join in honoring you both, and bidding you good luck in your new lives together.
62 Northen Utah Weddings // Autumn 2021
“When it comes to your wedding cake, remember that your cake is so much more than just a tradition. A wedding cake represents you both as a couple as you create something beautiful together.” It is symbolic of your relationship with the one you’ve chosen to love for the rest of your life. Your wedding cake will be tied to the most precious memories of your wedding day that you will want to share with those you love for many generations to come.
