I always encourage my clients to do something they will be comfortable with. If you normally wear your hair down on the daily, I’d suggest sticking with a half updo or all the way down. If or bun, an updo will be perfect for you. Another thing to consider is your hair texture, how your hair holds curls is very important in a style. You’re going to want to choose something that will last all day. If your hair doesn’t curl entire wedding day and an updo would

Similar to dresses, hairstyles and colors, design and decor have trends that will come and go. Brides should pick a style that speaks to her, not the opinion of others, and not what she assumes will be timeless. Decor is never timeless, and that is okay. What matters is how she feels on her special day, not ten years from now, not twenty. Her happiness is derived from loved ones surrounding her and an environment that makes her asking is, “Can you make this happen?” while displaying images of her dreams and desires!

/ WEDDING PLANNING /

You’re Engaged! What Next? BY MICHELLE LEO EVENTS, CO-AUTHORED BY EMILY DRIGGS AND MACKENZIE COBURN You’re engaged! CONGRATS! Take some time and enjoy this monumental moment! Go get yourself a killer manicure and take to gush about the news or throw a surprise engagement party. Binge watch some Say through a bunch of wedding magazines. Then get down to business and plan the wedding of your dreams. For many engaged couples, wedding planning can seem like a daunting process, especially given the short engagement period for most LDS couples (just four months on average). So, where do you start?! Don’t worry, take a deep breath – we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of the do list early. We recommend getting started as soon as you say “Yes!” and working as quickly as possible to ensure you get the big day of your dreams! 1. SIZE & INSURE YOUR RING. Sorry, this will probably be the least fun part of your wedding planning, but it could totally save your butt in the long run and it’s quick and easy to take care of.

2. GO DRESS SHOPPING. Let’s admit it: this will probably be the most fun to-do item on your list. Do some serious online browsing and screenshot any dress styles that speak to you. Familiarize yourself with necklines, silhouettes, and fabrics. Also, take into consideration the time of year and location of your wedding. Are you planning a beach wedding during the summer months? Go with a lightweight, Pick a heavier fabric and accessorize it with faux fur! Keep in mind that wedding dresses typically need to be LDS dress standards. Be sure to make bridal boutique appointments soon after your engagement to give yourself as much time as possible to get that dress of

your budget and decipher how much your must-haves will cost. Your planner will then do the math (you’re welcome; no one likes math) to establish your remaining budget and allocate the funds accordingly. 5. SCHEDULE THE TEMPLE. Your time at the temple will be the most important part of your wedding, as well as

6. DRAFT THE GUEST LIST. Ask your parents for their ideal guest list, preferably having them prioritize their guests in order of “must be there or else…” to “would like to have attend, but we won’t disown you if they don’t get an invite”. List your ideal guest list and have the guests on your lists with your parents’ and estimate how many people total. Although the list does not have to be set in stone in the early stages of wedding planning, having a rough estimate will give you a good starting point when looking at venues and caterers.

7. BOOK YOUR VENUE. The venue is the canvas for your wedding. your wedding; from the background in your pictures and the guest list, down to

that want. Do you want an intimate space that will allow for sit-down dinner service and or do you want a lofty feel with food stations set up around the room? Schedule visits to possible venues and go with a list of questions, and then book early! Venues can book a year (or more) in advance, especially during peak wedding season. 8. SET A DATE. as a newly engaged couple is “When’s the big day?!” While the date seems like don’t! The main reason we suggest not nailing down the big day earlier on our list is because you’ll have to schedule the on the same date or weekend. Plus, what if you fall in love with a venue, but your date isn’t available? Talk about a major bummer… With that being said, pick a time of year you’re thinking about getting hitched and then visit venues, making sure to get a calendar of their availability. In the meantime, just give your friends and family the go-to statement of, “We’re just so excited to be engaged right now!” However, if you’re planning to say your “I dos” during a busy time of year, such as around the holidays, try and nail down

the date as soon as possible and send out Save the Date cards to friends and family so they can all plan accordingly to be there for the big event. 9. HIRE A PLANNER. Admit it – you’ve always wanted your own personal superhero. A wedding planner is a superhero in heels. If your budget allows, hiring a wedding planner can be a huge life saver! There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes of wedding planning and execution that brides don’t know about – and it’s better that way. A planner can suggest reputable vendors, such as photographers wedding to life. Wedding planners rope in all the details and ask all the questions that you may not think or know to ask. Having a wedding planner on your team (for at least month-of coordination) will be especially helpful given the shorter timeframe typical

10. BOOK KEY PLAYERS. Photographers and videographers get snatched up quickly,

11. ENJOY THE PROCESS! Your engagement is a special time in both of your lives. Revel in your happiness and share it with loved ones. But most of all, make sure the two of you stay connected, take time to laugh, and remind each other place.

ADVICE from the PROS C R AV I N G S A L I S H A’ S CUPCAKES

T H E L O D G E A T T R AV E R S E @the_lo dge_at_traverse Well you’re engaged! Congrats! One is pick your location. It may seem daunting, but really it just comes down to a few of the following simple thoughts; pick somewhere that is your style, know your budget, check to see how versatile it is to meet all your big day dreams, know if you can bring in your own vendors, & lastly, do you absolutely love it? If it checks all the boxes above - it’s the one!

For all of the beautiful rustic themed weddings, I love the naked cake trend! When it comes to the cake stand though, make sure not to cut your own tree stump for the stand. Often times, it is cut uneven, and will make your cake look uneven or make it unstable. I always recommend just buying one to create the best presentation.

McKayla & Tanner Married March 27, 2020

Two days before getting married the temples closed! That Friday was not like I ever imagined getting married would be like. Tanner’s bishop described my feelings perfectly, “This may not be the wedding you dreamed of, but you’re looking at the person of your dreams”. The most beautiful thing about this crazy time was that I was marrying the man of my dreams! The night before we got sealed, the church announced that there could now be 16 people in the sealing room. As the youngest of 8, I was ecstatic! COVID didn’t take anything away from us! We were blessed to focus on what matters most, love and family!

Married May 30, 2020 Our wedding definitely wasn’t what we expected it to be but when you are marrying the love of your life, it’s perfect. Getting married in the middle of a pandemic is sure going to make a good story to tell one day. The number of people at a gathering was still limited, we went back and forth of even having a wedding. We were just so ready to start our life together that we didn’t want to wait any longer. Our love is what movies are made of. Hopefully there’s a big celebration in our future!

We didn’t want to wait until after the pandemic to get married. So we had a gorgeous pseudoelopement atop Francis Peak in Davis County with a masked biergarten BBQ in a friend’s backyard. It was perfectly intimate and the scenery for our vows couldn’t have been more perfect. It was just...us. While we are still planning a big wedding for 2021 in Jackson Hole, I was surprised how fulfilling this year’s small affair was. Little glitz, but overwhelming joy and warmth of just a couple dozen close friends and family to celebrate our love.

Mikaylah & Korbon Married July 9, 2020 We were lucky enough to still have all of our family and friends surround us at our wedding and for us that was the most important part of our day. Being surrounded by those you love most makes celebrating your love that much better. Although Covid made some things impossible the best parts were laughing and enjoying the company of those who made us into who we are and brought Korbon and I together.

Abbey & Bryson Married April 4, 2020

Photo Credit: Skyline Photography by Ericka

Since I was a little girl I’ve dreamed about my wedding day. I always wanted a big wedding with all my friends and family there to celebrate. When we learned that we had to change our plans due to COVID-19 Bryson and I were sad that we couldn’t have our original plans but through the process of adjusting our wedding plans we learned that we were able to help each other with what was our “first stressful obstacle” to overcome. Life will always change our plans and our job is just to make the best of every opportunity and that’s what we did with our wedding.

Married August 15, 2020 Peter and I started planning a pretty large wedding, but COVID made that a problem. We ended up having an intimate backyard wedding with our immediate families and grandparents. It was a perfect day with our most important people. We hope to have a celebration of our marriage with our extended families and friends someday. Our wedding day was so perfect though and we wouldn’t change it for the world!

With the difficulties of COVID-19, especially with socializing, it has been such a blessing for us to have each other. We know that even though a civil marriage wasn’t our ideal, Heavenly Father approved of our decision, and we have both been blessed with newer and better jobs, improved time management and an increase in our ability to receive revelation. We’ve certainly had days of darkness, but our commitment and love for each other has brought us closer together and closer to God’s light. God has a plan for us, and we’re grateful for the experiences He blesses us with.

Jordan & Robert Married July 31, 2020 We had close family and friends at our wedding in July, about 20 people were there. We had a short ceremony, had a small dinner, with the cake. Then we took off into the mountains to camp for the weekend. Because due to COVID, nothing was open, for us to get away for our honeymoon. So, why not pack up the truck and go up the mountains. We still have not had our reception yet, but that will be happening when COVID is done and over with.

Anna & Matheus Married May 23, 2020

Our appointment in the Los Angeles, California temple was set. The caterer and florist for a reception in my parents’ backyard in Santa Barbara were booked. Then COVID happened, of course! So we adapted. We quickly planned a lovely civil ceremony to be held in the backyard of a friend, performed by our bishop. 25 people attended. We got to say vows. I cried, he cried. My husband’s family In Brazil got to be there via Zoom. We were later sealed on October 17th in the Draper temple. Things didn’t turn out the way we had originally planned, but it is a part of our beautiful story, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Married March 24, 2020 Our wedding was set for March 21, 2020. We had 350 people scheduled to come to our reception from all over the country. One week before, the whole world shut down. We had to cancel everything. Our plans were to postpone until things were “normal” again. At the last minute, we changed our minds and eloped. We were married in the Provo City Center Temple two days before all the temples closed down. 5 people were there. We celebrated with a much smaller group of friends and family in September.

Megan & Gabe Married June 6, 2020 Gabe and I decided not to postpone our wedding despite COVID. The most important thing about our wedding was not all of the festivities or decorations, but getting married to each other! We had a wonderfully intimate ceremony in my grandparent’s backyard, and I would not change it for the world! It even poured rain throughout most of the day. Still the best day ever!

Amanda & Alex Married August 8, 2020 I got married to my wonderful husband during COVID and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. Planning was simplified because we had the ceremony in my grandparent’s backyard with close family and we had a drive-through reception. It was nice getting to focus on what the day was really about and not stress about making it “Pinterest perfect.”

Kirsten & Geremy Married April 20, 2020

Geremy and I got married with a couple of our friends (in secret) on April 20th. We had a bigger celebration on August 8th. We met through his uncle and then were able to be married in his backyard at the house where we first met. I honestly felt that getting married during this whole pandemic nonsense has been the biggest blessing to us and our family. Life “slowed down”, we didn’t run back to the outside world after and have been able to build such an amazingly strong bond. We were still able to be close and home as often as work permitted. As crazy and manic as 2020 has been, it has been such a wonderful year for our family.

Married March 28, 2020 Despite the worry and great sorrow in the world due the pandemic, it was the best day of our lives. We gathered in my in-laws living room surrounded by few close friends and family members, and said “I do” .

We were married right when COVID hit and the world didn’t know what to expect from it yet. However, despite all the chaos that was going on, we remained pretty stress free. We were both looking forward to being married as husband and wife more than our actual wedding day. We realized that the location, the guests, and all the details didn’t matter as long as we were together. We’ve been happy ever since.

Emily & Brett Married September 25, 2020 Getting married during COVID turned out to be the biggest blessing for our wedding day. At first changing our plans was scary and frustrating, but because we did, all our nieces and nephews, grandparents, and other family members were able to be involved in that special day when they couldn’t have otherwise. We were able to write really heartfelt vows to each other and now we have those on video that we get to keep forever. Our wedding day felt much more intimate and meaningful and we will cherish this unique experience forever.

Brooklyn & Kade Married May 8, 2020

We were so grateful that we were able to get married when we did. The governor had released guidelines days before we got married that extended the number of people allowed to gather from 10 to 20. All siblings were able to make the cut! Our wedding invitations consisted of a text message with a Zoom link to attend virtually. To allow social distancing, we picked an outdoor venue. Although things were much different than expected, it was the most perfect and beautiful day in southern Utah. We enjoyed our intimate wedding with our immediate family.

Married July, 23, 2020 We were overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we received during the planning and day of our wedding. Dear friends and family were so understanding about the present circumstances of Covid-19. We were able to be married in the Mount Timpanogos Temple, followed by an intimate dinner at Magleby’s restaurant in Springville, UT. We celebrated with those closest to us, and even virtually as loved ones sent messages of congratulations!

Ellie & Dane Married August 5, 2020

On March 29 my Aunt gave Dane my number and said we each needed a “quarantine friend”. We decided to break quarantine and actually meet. We bought sodas in glass bottles from a gas station and sipped them at a park because everything else was closed. We were inseparable after that day and had a hard time staying 6 feet apart! We were married August 5 in the Payson Temple with 16 family members cheering us on. We were worried about even the small family dinner we had planned, so 2 weeks before the wedding we cancelled all plans and threw together a drive by reception. 2020 will always be remembered as the year that “social distancing” actually brought our two hearts together!

Juliet & Dave Married July 18, 2020 Our story is not a traditional love story. Our previous spouses passed away, leaving us heartbroken. This year, we were blessed to meet on an online dating site and “quarantined” together. We were not patient enough to wait until the pandemic was over to be married. We could no longer “mask” our feelings for each other and wanted to get on with life as Mr. and Mrs. We had a beautiful wedding in my brother-in-law’s back-yard! It was like a story-book reception with family and close friends. Our family performed beautiful love songs, catered the food, and did our decorations. We found love during the pandemic!
