Wedding Savings or Wedding Stressor? Courtesy of Hand in Hand Weddings & Events Everyone has a budget but there are things that you should “DIY” and save on and then there are things that you should “Splurge” with and spend money on. I always tell my brides to remember there is no compensation or dollar value for your sanity. I believe that there are 2 different types of DIY projects, the FUN, LIGHTHEARTED, “Yay I’m getting married” project; such as bedazzling a frame or adding a touch of color to a basket that will hold your favors. Then there is the “OMG, this is overwhelming, when will the wedding be over” project; such as making EVERY centerpiece for 25 tables or making chocolate chip cookies as a favor for all 200-300 of your guests. An important thing to consider before taking on DIY/ Wedding budget saver projects is, if you plan to do-it-yourself then REALLY plan to do it YOURSELF. Don’t expect a lot of help. It sounds harsh, but it is very true. I have seen a lot of brides over the years take on intricate tasks based on assistance offered by friends and family. This is a BIG deal and is imperative when starting out in the beginning of your planning process. Be very sure that you are able to complete DIY tasks by yourself without assistance just in case it results in you having to work alone. Choose your project carefully so that you don’t end up with an unnecessary amount of stress by having mandatory “homework” await you after work or school. Friends and family are all very excited and happy for you and want nothing more than to be involved in your big day, but unfortunately they sometimes tend to over promise and under-deliver. This is why you should put a lot of thought into choosing what to DIY and what might require professional vendor assistance. What may start off as a wedding budget saver, can equate to the cost of hiring a professional. After factoring in the amount of time you will need to drive from place to place and complete the task along with enlisting the help of others, it is sometimes easier to bring your idea to life through an industry professional. On your wedding day, you want to sit back, enjoy it, and know that everything is
just what you envisioned. You and your loved ones should not have to worry about all the details. You should be a guest on your special day. Therefore, it’s very important to make sure that your DIY décor and tasks can be easily set up and removed with minimal assistance. Always keep in mind that industry professionals have all of the necessary tools, experience, and staff to ensure that you are taken care of from behind the scenes. This way, you can focus on enjoying every moment. The wonderful thing about weddings is that every situation is so different and so unique; and so is each bride and groom. The amount of DIY projects vary for the couple and their wedding. Take into consideration the plan for your wedding, your guest count, and, most of all, your day to day lifestyle. Then realistically determine how much you can or are willing to take on and what should be delegated to an industry professional. Keep in mind, your wedding is your Day not your Duty. Incorporate fun ideas and projects to add a special and personal touch to your big day, but don’t become so overwhelmed that you forget to enjoy every moment of this amazing journey.
