PRERIT GUPTA PORTFOLIO ARC 182 Spring 2016
Prerit Gupta ARC 182
Spring 2016 This portfolio contains the work done in ARC 182: Digital Representation. The work has been divided into four categories: Kit of Parts, Shape as Form, Sensation, and Atmosphere. All the drawings exlore the different forms of digital representation in architecture. They all have been produced using softwares such as Rhinocerous, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, GIF Maker, and Pepakura. 2

Left: Patent Drawing Completed: 02/03/2016
Prior to building any kit model it is necessary to organize its parts. Therefore, this drawing creates an arrangement of Erector Set parts into a field while drawing and dimensioning each part in the kit. 5

Left: Model Parts Completed: 02/07/2016
This drawing feautures three fragments from the erector set that have been assembled into a new drawing. Repeated misalignments at the seams gives it qualities and readings unfamiliar from the original intentions of the Erector Set. 7

Left: Assemblage of Views
Right: Kit assembled into an Assemblage Completed: 02/14/2016
This drawing constructs a representation of the object through different views. Drawing from David Hockneys’ polaroid collages, the assemblag of views describe several key aspects of the Erector Set arranged in an unfamiliar way. Thus producing new qualities and readings unfamiliar from the original. 9

3A Shape as Form Prerit Gupta Jonathan Louie, Yen Tsi Tung Arc 182 Spring 2016
Centre: Shape on Shape Completed: 02/21/2016
This axonometric drawing feautures an overlay of pattern onto an object, drawn in unfolded elevation and axonometric. Addiotionally, the drawing tests the legibility of an object by camouflaging it with a 2d pattern, while developing an understanding of Shape as Form as an architectural (and surface or facade) design device. 11

Left: Object or Image?
Right: Figure Ground on Figure on Ground Completed: 03/02/2016
This project produces a 64 frame GIF that repeats ad infinitum. Thus bringing into question the moving image and its role in our perception of objects. Therefore by strategically texture mapping a pattern onto the object, I have tried to obfuscate or alter the reading of the object 13

Project 5A : Drawing Impossible Things
Left: Drawing Impossible Things Completed: 03/21/2016
Prerit Gupta Jonathan Louie, Yen Tsi Tung Arc 182 Spring 2016
In this drawings, I have drawn the crunchy texture and glistening qualities of sand, onto a lumpy landscape. 14

Right: Tactical Enhancement Completed: 03/27/2016
This drawing enhances a lumpy cube with the select application of a sandy (highly textured) surface, inorder to use the idea of cosmetics to highlight and or obfuscate features of the 8’x8’x8’ cube. 15

Project 6A The Air Up There: Drawing Thick Air Prerit Gupta Jonathan Louie, Yen Tsi Tung Arc 182 Spring 2016

Atmosphere
Left: The Air Up There Completed: 04/03/2016
Beginning with the iconic image of Sunset over the Hollywood Sign by Ed Rsucha, I have recreated the image by only drawing the atmospheric effects, layers, and gradients in the sky. Consequently representing the atmospheric qualities of air. Moreover, this drawing reconsiders the role of threshold and boundary by drawing the blurry boundaries of the qualities and effects typically found in the air up there. 17

Center: Invisible Thresholds Completed: 04/10/2016
Building on Sean Lally’s definition of Gradient Boundaries this drawing feautures a cube with 3 solid boundaries and 3 Invisible Thresholds. By using a combination of contouring techniques (different linetypes, or densities of lines), I have represented the atmospheric qualities of air and light as an occupiable threshold. Moreover, this drawing reconsiders the role of threshold and boundary by drawing the blury boundaries of the qualities and effects. 19
