MARCH 2024

New Director of Nursing Announced

A familiar face at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor has a new position, the result of her hard work.

Jessica Lippe, our former director of nursing, transitioned to a new position as the Director of Clinical Reimbursement at the PMMA® home office a few months ago. While we’re sad that Jessica left, we’re excited for her new opportunity. Jessica had been with our community since 2011 and has worked to put our residents first.

The community already found the perfect replacement – from within. Madison Sibley was promoted to Director of Nursing. Madison joined Clay Center Presbyterian Manor in August 2023 as the health services supervisor. She’s a registered nurse and has experience working as an agency nurse, a home health nurse, and as the home health director at the Cloud County Health Department.

Join us in congratulating both Madison and Jessica for their promotions. u

Finding a PATH back home

Clay Center resident Patricia Woodruff thought she was simply stepping out of the car last Mother’s Day - but in an instant she fell and broke her ankle in three places.

That’s how she ended up spending several months at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor, through our PATH® (Post-Acute to Home) program.

“They were really helpful in getting me back home,” Patricia said. “They were very experienced and very good.”

With PATH, our team of health care professionals tailor therapies and skilled nursing care to meet each patient’s needs. The PATH program include physical, occupational, and speech therapy as well as offering orthopedic, post-cardiac, and neurological and stroke rehab.

Patricia said it was nice to be in a place with such great care - where she didn’t need to worry about the daily chores or navigating her home with an injury.

Now that she’s back home, she’s getting healthier everyday.

“I still go to the hospital for physical therapy,” she said. “I graduated to a cane from a walker.” u

OUR MISSION: To provide quality senior services guided by Christian values.

2 COMMUNITY MATTERS | March 2024

Celebrating our heritage

Presbyterian Manors Of MidAmerica has a 75-year tradition of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values.

Our story began in 1947, when Mrs. Alice Kalb, or El Dorado, asked the Presbyterian Church to build a “home for the aged.” Two years later, the group purchased land in Newton, Kansas in what was the first community for seniors who could no longer live independently in their homes.

That same level of caring and forethought is what has driven our community at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.

During the 1960s, First Presbyterian Church members petitioned the Presbyterian Synod and Foundation to build a Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center due to an increased need for seniors in the community.

Rev. Bill Tillman, a long-time member of the state Presbyterian foundation board, is credited with inspiring the creation of Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. George Fullington and Jim Hammel provided the first money for the project during a conversation over a cup of coffee at the old Sunflower Café.

Mrs. Ethel (George) Kreeck donated land to the project at the site of the former high school. In 1964, a planning committee of 12 members began holding meetings. Ground was broken May 7, 1967 to begin construction of a 40-bed health care center. After more than one year of

construction, Clay Center Presbyterian Manor was dedicated on June 29, 1968. By October 29, 28 residents called Clay Center Presbyterian Manor home.

In 1984, the building underwent extensive remodeling and construction to turn the community into 30 assisted living/independent living residences and a 25-bed Medicare-certified health care center. The community added six

independent living duplexes to the campus fifteen years later in 1999. In addition to the duplexes, the community installed the Oberg Memorial Garden for residents to enjoy an outdoor space.

Today, Clay Center Presbyterian Manor has a 30-bed Medicarecertified healthcare center, 21 assisted living residences and 14 independent living residences. u
