MARCH 2024

Weekly Sing-Along Class boosts moods and memories

The Emporia Presbyterian Manor campus comes alive with music every Tuesday when volunteer Kathy Tidwell visits and plays the piano for a community-wide sing-along. From independent living to health care, and assisted living to the memory care unit, all residents are encouraged to attend in this weekly gathering.

Considered an exercise class, the sing-along is offered by EnerG of Aegis Therapies. Courtney Waldner and Tagan Mermis with Aegis Therapies shared that there are multiple studies on how music improves lung function and memory, boosts confidence and relieves stress.

What’s more, the class is a conversation starter for the residents as the songs bring back memories.

When asked what reactions they’ve seen from residents who take the class, Courtney and Tagan shared, “A lot of joy and confidence! They enjoy visiting in-between songs and after with peers and Kathy. Some residents are very quiet and shy, but when they come to sing-along they light up and embrace their voice.”

In addition to Kathy’s piano playing, the class occasionally includes other instruments and seasonal songs. u

Thank you, sponsors and donors!

Our 6th Annual Luminaria Lighting Ceremony in December raised funds to renovate Emporia Presbyterian Manor’s Country Store - a market for residents - while also honoring family and friends during the holidays. We are grateful to our generous donors and sponsors who made this possible. The 2023 sponsors include Emporia Presbyterian Church, Emporia State Federal Credit Union, and Newman Regional Health. The gathering consisted of a special luminaria dedication ceremony, cookies, hot cocoa, and viewing the luminarias around our campus. Residents and families also enjoyed writing the name of a loved one on an ornament and hanging it on our Angel Tree. u

Emporia Presbyterian Manor wins 2024 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award!

Congratulations to Emporia Presbyterian Manor for winning the 2024 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award, earned because of positive customer feedback through telephone surveys.

Emporia Presbyterian Manor seeks customer feedback through monthly telephone surveys. Each month, residents and their representatives are randomly selected to participate in telephone satisfaction surveys conducted by Pinnacle Quality Insight.

Earning this award means Emporia Presbyterian Manor consistently ranks among the top 15% of providers nationally in different categories.

The graphic highlights some of the survey results. All scores are given on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest score. Between

January 2023 and December 2023, Emporia Presbyterian Manor residents and their families gave the community high scores in demonstrating dignity and respect, safety and security and cleanliness.

“I'm very likely to recommend them,” said one resident. “I would tell others that it's a friendly place

by residents and staff and they care about us and take good care of us.”

We greatly value the opinions of our residents and their representatives about the care and services we provide, and we encourage them to participate honestly when contacted by Pinnacle Quality Insight. All state and federal confidentiality laws are met in Pinnacle’s service. u
