Five local artists among Art is Ageless® masterpiece level winners
Five winning artists in Lawrence Presbyterian Manor’s annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2024 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®).
“Toby Keith,” a Drawing entry by John Boyer, and “Goose Parade,” a Mixed Media/Crafts entry by Donna Russell, will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall.

Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 14 other PMMA® communities. More than 190 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition.
“Iris in Mexican Vase,” a Painting entry by Barbara Hall, “Descent,” a Mixed Media/Crafts entry by Marsha Poholsky, and “Arkansas Autumn,” a Painting entry by Jewell Willhite, will be featured on the pull-out postcards included in the 2024 calendar.

“Huck Lace Fabrication,” a Fiber Arts entry by Ellie Unruh, and “Japanese White-eye (Warbler),” a Photography entry by Michael Watkins, will be included in the calendar’s honorable mention gallery.
Zumba instructor brings all the moves to her role as life enrichment assistant!

Rouba Sawaf spent six years at Aberdeen Village in Olathe before recently bringing her passion for exercise to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
“My son enrolled at KU, so I moved to Lawrence to be closer to him,” she explained.
That’s good news for residents, as Rouba’s chair Zumba classes have been packed since she started them last year.
“It’s great for upper body, but we also get our legs involved,” she said. “We typically have about 20 residents in any given class.”

The Zumba classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while she also teaches a dumbbell class every other Friday.
Rouba is a certified Zumba instructor, having taught at Genesis Health for a number of years, as well as other fitness centers. u
Art is Ageless – continued from page 1

“We are honored to exhibit artwork by seniors,” said Chris Phelps, marketing director. “Art is Ageless is unique in featuring only the works of senior artists. Our artists prove that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition.”

A copyrighted program of PMMA, Art is Ageless is open exclusively to people 65 years of age and older. For the competition, works must have
been completed in the past five years.
PMMA’s Art is Ageless program encourages Lawrence Presbyterian Manor residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, educational opportunities, and current events discussions throughout the year.
Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an
extension of PMMA’s wellness programs, which focus on mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. For more information visit ArtIsAgeless.org. u
New resident Marilyn Bradt looking forward to loving life at LPM!

Marilyn Bradt had no problem deciding on Lawrence Presbyterian Manor when the time came to choose a retirement community.
“I have been very involved with senior communities as a lobbyist for

the industry,” she explained. “There was never any question where I would go. Lawrence Presbyterian Manor is the best of the best.”
Bradt loves the outdoors and is looking forward to walking the trails at nearby Hidden Valley. First, however, she’s got some reorganizing to do.
“I haven’t gone out a lot yet,” she said. “I’m extremely busy getting
everything organized. I already have a lot of friends at the community and I’ve truly enjoyed all the interactions so far.”
Bradt said the reputation of the community has lived up to expectations and she looks forward to enjoying everything Lawrence Presbyterian Manor has to offer. Please join us in welcoming Marilyn Bradt to the community! u
