Additional Courses

from Atlantic Flight Training Academy

Night Rating Modular

The aim of the PPL course is to teach the student to fly safely and efficiently in accordance Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The holder of a PPL has the privilege to act as Pilot In Command (PIC) or Co-Pilot of any plane engaged in non-revenue flights.

Following the PPL a person may decide to add a night rating to his / her licence.

f

Private Pilot’s Licence Modular

The course is a minimum of 45 hours flight training comprising: ● 35 hours with an instructor (dual) ● 10 hours supervised solo flight time (PIC) ● Pre-flight and post flight briefings ● Theoretical Tuition covering 9 subjects and culminating in 9 written exams set by the Irish Aviation Authority. All training will be conducted in our modern, fully equipped fleet of Cessna 172s and completed at Cork International Airport. When the training is completed the student will undergo a flight test with an Irish Aviation Authority flight examiner.

Cessna 172 S

This will allow the person to obtain the flight skills necessary to fly an aircraft after the end of VFR or in other words, during the hours of darkness. The course comprises the following: ● 5 hours flight training (dual and solo) ● 3 hours theoretical tuition

Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) Theoretical Knowledge - Modular

Following the PPL a person may decide to continue his / her training and become a Commercial Pilot. One of the requirements when doing this is to have a minimum of 100 hours Pilot In Command (PIC) of an aircraft before commencing the training for the Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL).

An applicant requiring to undertake the Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence Theory course and exams must hold a valid ICAO PPL or equivalent.

f

Structured Hour Building

The Academy has tailored a structured hour building programme which allows a person to fly primarily for leisure purposes but with regular instructor checks to maintain the high standard of flying. A person may choose to complete the hour building in one of our Cessna 172 four seater aircraft or Grob 115 two seater aircraft or indeed a combination of both.

The ATPLs are a set of 14 subjects and exams which are required for the issue of an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence. The course is conducted over a six month duration at the Academy and candidates may participate as either full time or part time (distance learning) students. The course is split in three bimonthly modules culminating in a set of exams at the end of each module. All course material is delivered digitally by iPad. All Examinations are taken electronically at the EASA approved Atlantic Flight Training Academy’s examination centre after each module. All examinations are set by the Irish Aviation Authority.

Typical Course Outline - First Module (8 Weeks) 1 Human Performance; 2 Air Law; 3 Ops Procedures; 4 Meteorology; 5 VFR Coms; 6 IFR Coms.

Second Module (8 Weeks) 1 Mass & Balance; 2 Performance; 3 General Navigation; 4 Flight Planning; 5 Principles of Flight.

Third Module (8 Weeks) 1 Aircraft General Knowledge; 2 Instrumentation; 3 Radio Navigation.

All course material is delivered digitally by iPad.

Multi-Engine Class Rating Modular

At the Atlantic Flight Training Academy the Multi Engine Rating is conducted on a Piper Seneca PA-34 and FNPT II. This course comprises of the following training: â—? 6 hours of flight training, covering normal operations and asymmetric operations â—? 7 hours theoretical tuition culminating in a class rating theory examination Although there is a flight test for this rating, it can be taken in conjunction with the Commercial Licence flight test.

Piper Seneca PA-34

f

Applicants wishing to train for and obtain a Multi-Engine Class Rating (MEP) must hold, at least, a PPL and have flown a minimum of 70 hours pilot in command (PIC). This rating allows a person to transition from single engine aircraft to twin engine aircraft which can be quite challenging. This training allows a person a certain insight into airline and multi crew operations.

Multi-Engine Instrument Rating Modular

An applicant who wishes to commence training for the Commercial Pilot’s licence (CPL) at the Academy shall be 18 years old and hold the following: ● PPL licence ● Class 1 Medical Certificate ● A pass in all ATPL or CPL theoretical examinations ● 170 hours flying experience of which 100 hours are pilot in command (PIC).

An applicant who wishes to commence training for the Multi Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) shall hold the following: ● PPL or CPL licence ● Class 1 Medical (CPL holder) Class 2 Medical (PPL holder) ● A pass in the appropriate ATPL, CPL or IR theoretical examinations

The Commercial Pilot’s Licence will allow a person to have a flying career in aviation. It will enable them to act as a pilot in multi-engine and multi pilot aircraft for airline commercial transport. The course comprises 25 hours flight training and a minimum of 20 hours theoretical tuition. The flight training is conducted on a single engine Cessna 172, a Piper Twin PA-34 and an FNPT II simulator and is divided into two modules of which one corresponds to the visual (VFR) CPL training and the other to the instrument (IFR) CPL training. The 25 hours are flown as follows: ● 2 hours on FNPT II ● 15 hours on C172 ● 8 hours on PA-34 When the training is completed, a flight test is then conducted on a complex multi-engine aircraft (PA-34).

f

Commercial Pilot’s Licence Modular

The MEIR course teaches the student to fly the aircraft with sole reference to instruments (IFR) or in other words with no visual external references (VFR). It is a qualification which entitles the student to fly in the same manner as airline pilots. The course comprises of 55 hours of flight training and a minimum of 25 hours of comprehensive theoretical tuition. An applicant who is already the holder of a Commercial Pilots Licence will have this training reduced by 10 hours FNPT II making it a 45 hour course. The training for the 45 hour course is conducted in a FNPT II and a Piper Seneca PA-34 as follows: ● 30 hours on FNPT II ● 15 hours on PA-34 When the training is completed a flight test is then conducted on a complex multi engine aircraft (PA-34).

Flight Instructor’s Course

The Flight Instructor’s Course is designed to teach the applicant the extensive knowledge and insight required to train others according to the regulatory authority requirements. Being a flight instructor is one of the most demanding but, at the same time rewarding, jobs in aviation. The Course comprises: ● 1 hour pre-entry flight test ● 30 hours of flight instruction of which 5 hours may be flown with another FIC candidate ● 125 hours of tuition and directed theoretical knowledge On completion of the training, a flight test is then conducted on a single engine aircraft.

f

An applicant wishing to undertake the Flight Instructor’s Course (FIC) must hold the following: ● Hold a CPL or ● PPL and have CPL theoretical knowledge 200 hours of flight time on aeroplane of which 150 hours are as PIC ● 30 hours single engine pilot time of which 5 hours were in the preceding six months before course commencement ● Pass a pre-entry flight test ● Class 1 medical
