The new integration provides PRINERGY users a quick, seamless, and efficient method to set up, control, and monitor print jobs.

Kodak has announced the integration between KODAK PRINERGY Workflow 8.4 and Canon’s PRISMAsync Print Server starting with v7.2. This new integration provides PRINERGY users a quick, seamless, and efficient method to set up, control, and monitor print jobs. production workflow for controlling all their print processes. This connectivity means that Canon production presses can now be efficiently controlled using our industry

With the new connectivity, PRINERGY Setup can receive device properties from the PRISMAsync Print Server and import the Canon digital press’s media and substrate library. PRINERGY Job Ticket Editor for the PRISMAsync Print Server enables users to define print parameters as needed and save them for later use. Furthermore, PRINERGY Track records all print jobs on the PRISMAsync Print Server, and for queued jobs that were sent from PRINERGY, most settings can be changed.

“Kodak’s goal is to provide customers access to the PRINERGY automated leading PRINERGY Workflow solution,” commented Todd Bigger, President Kodak Software Division and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company.

Idea Catalysts reaffirms confidence in Konica Minolta technology

The Mohali based hybrid printer repeats Konica Minolta upgrade to explore new vistas.

Mohali, Punjab based Idea Catalysts has a rich, over two decades’ experience in the Printing field. The first generation company was started by a young, fresh out of college Mr. Jasmeet Dhamija, pursuing his dream career, matching his tech-savvy disposition.

“In fact Konica Minolta AccurioPress C3070 is a perfect partner for a quality conscious Offset printer who wishes to add Digital capabilities to win that edge and have a healthy mix of the two technologies.” Jasmeet Dhamija, Director, Idea Catalysts.

It started in the year 1999 with a single colour Offset machine. Jasmeet recalls the time when printing used to be a rather complex process with a lot of time and efforts going into it. “Back then, Prepress was pretty challenging with jobs requiring manual planning and lot of efforts going just into colour separation,” he remembers.

Jasmeet soon found a huge market and promising opportunity in digitization of Prepress. This was the beginning of one of the leading Prepress processing houses of Chandigarh. Starting with a Dianippon Screen drum-scanner-based outputting device, not before long, Idea Catalysts had installed their Scitex Imagesetter to cater to the increased demand. The Processing House proved as Idea Catalysts’ mainstay in addition to their Printing Press.

The business was facing immense competition till 2005 with a lot many processing houses coming up in the region, putting pressure on margins and business. “There were more than 10 processing houses in Chandigarh catering to the printers in the tricity (of Mohali, Panchkula and Chandigarh) in addition to the nearby areas. The margins were getting thinner and thinner, therefore, we took a conscious decision to exit from it and focus back on the printing business,” says Jasmeet. With more time and money getting invested into the Digital Printing business, there came their first Digital Printing machine – a Xerox in the year 2007. It was a used machine and there has been no looking back from Digital Printing ever since. Jasmeet, rather calls it Hybrid Printing for being an Offset Printer and having ability to incorporate Digital Printing as well. “There is no way an Offset Printer can survive without the integration of Digital Printing into their setup to cater to the demands of existing and future customers,” declares Jasmeet.

“In 2007, I presume we were the first to get into the Hybrid Printing bandwagon and we even today carry the benefits of the decision taken then which not only has helped us to retain our business but also to increase it over the years,” continues Jasmeet. In 2009, with the increased burden of work piling up, they decided to upgrade to a brand new Konica Minolta. The Konica Minolta machine stood with them in good stead till December last year when they once again decided to upgrade – this time to a new Konica Minolta AccurioPress C3070.

banner printing (accepts paper sizes up to 13” x 19.2” and weights up to 350 gsm, banner tray holds 1000 banner sheets of up to 30” and simplex banner printing up to 51”), excellent image quality (1200 x 1200 DPI resolution with 8-bit processing for smoother, more realistic images), real-time automated quality adjustments and much more. “In fact it is a perfect partner for a quality conscious Offset printer who wishes to add Digital capabilities to win that edge and have a healthy mix of the two technologies,” recommends Jasmeet.

Konica has always been a perfect partner with Idea Catalyst Inc. considering their very appreciable after sale services and more importantly the machines being rugged enough to carry on in the typical Indian working conditions.

Jasmeet’s vision on having a Digital set up within the Offset is rather interesting as he does not look into a long-run high-speed production machine per se for his Digital runs. “I would rather do a Hybrid product with the main body on Offset and Variable on the Digital which gives us more returns per page than if I do a few thousand runs all on Digital,” he reasons. Volumes are not what he always looks for but, value addition

to the Offset printed products is what he calls his forte is. Moreover, this is what he can get higher margins on too. “We provide add-ons to the customer by providing velvet lamination, Spot UV printing, Variable Printing etc. which in fact give me a better return than doing higher volumes,” he explains.

Idea Catalysts have been known for their designing enabled by a strong design team. Their products stand part for their design and quality of printing. Besides, their expertise in Variable Data Printing – not only in numeric terms but also variable picture printing and special capabilities like providing 100 different numbers with counterfoils on a single sheet of paper – not only put them apart in a competitive field but also help them in getting a price of choice for their products.

In fact Jasmeet is pretty much happy with the production that the Konica Minolta machine gives him. His target is about 5-10 thousand sheets a day. Keeping himself away from the price-cutting rat race among many digital printers of this day, he rather prefers to keep his margins comfortable. Most of the jobs he does for his customers are a combination of Digital and Offset. “I find this combination a lethal one; considering the present market scenario of immense competition and cut throat rates prevalent in the market,” believes Jasmeet. “Scratch coupons are a case to point the advantage Idea Catalysts gives to its scratch coupon customers who get it not only on-time but in perfect condition every time,” he confirms.

According to Jasmeet, the reason for the upgradation of the recent machine was to chiefly get an upgrade of the software that Konica provides with the new machines. “Had it not been for the new software, I could never have come to know that 400 pages of a B&W print taken out by my operator were actually being routed through the colour route. This meant we were to pay for the fasma of colour pages price where as we were charging for the B&W,” he contends.

Such small details are what matter for a business owner and all in all, they help in improving the balance sheet. Jasmeet has configured his system to send him a report of the previous day’s outputs from the machine at 8 in the morning. This helps him to actually see the production (and idle time) and plan his day. “It’s one day at a time,” Jasmeet concludes, summing up his success.
