We last talked with Jody

Ellen nearly two years ago. This talented Steampunk has now released her own solo album and we had a chance to catch up with her and her busy schedule to ask a few questions. So Jody, it’s been a while since we have talked you last what have you been up to?

Yes, it really has! Well, I’ve been up to many many things. For starters, I recently exited my long standing position as the female singer in the Steampunk band Abney Park. The truth about that whole situation has been brought up countless times as people want to know all the gruesome details. The funny part is, there is absolutely nothing risqué to tell! After a year of consideration, I decided back in the beginning of 2014 that it was my time to leave. My decision was brought on by the frustration of trying to give my all to Abney Park while also still create my solo albums and tour with my new project. Being the perfectionist that I am, I wasn’t happy not being able to give either project 100% of my passion and attention.

The other members of Abney Park will be sorely missed on my end, but they will continue to soldier on being the awesome musicians they are. For now, they are a 5 piece band without a female singer, but who knows what will be in store for their future on that front. We all continue to be friends, which is awesome. After a year of recording, I finally finished my second album Bookends Fall and released it on Memorial Day weekend at Clockwork Alchemy in San Jose, CA. For this last year, every minute of my free time was spent writing, recording or marketing the new album. After the release, came a flood of orders from our fundraiser that I had to ship. That process was crazy because I had to do all of the graphic design on the album, posters, T-shirts, buttons and the rest of the new merchandise on my own and then ship them out. I was pulling my hair out with creative projects! Now I am a bit creatively exhausted, but it’s been such a nice break. I’ve also been modeling a bit with local geek-based makeup company Espionage Cosmetics and that has been a blast! Apparently my face is on their new Kiss of Death lip serums packaging with me modeling as “Rogue” from X-Men!
