Dear Reader It’s a bit early but spring is already in the air! Can you feel it? The days are brighter and longer, and you see the first signs of spring: snowdrops and winter aconites peek through, and one day when you’re out walking you notice the fresh, green tinge on the bushes and trees that used to look sad and winter bare. The first signs of fresh sprouts – finally! Spring is on its way! Although you’ll still have to wait a bit for the blossoming branches, feel free to start getting excited. Spending a sunny day getting your home ready for spring is such a fantastic feeling. Clean the windows, air the whole house, hang the bedding out to air. Bring in some twigs and make them blossom in your living room. Fill your home with lots of wonderful spring plants from the local flower shop. You’ll be surprised at the positive effect on your mood and energy level. And if tidying up and cleaning doesn’t do the trick, you might want to paint a room or redesign your living room. This edition includes lots of ideas in our dining room theme. If you prefer smaller projects, let yourself get inspired by our “do-it-yourself ” features, including one on how to decorate old boxes. Have fun!

Rustic charm - in a new house
Aaf lives in Friesland, Netherlands, together with her husband John, their son Johan, a cat and two dogs in a relatively new house from 1982. Having renovated the house over several years, it’s turned out to be the perfect framework for their family life. Aaf ’s interior design has lots of personality and style. The rustic French-Nordic country style is consistent down to the smallest detail and Aaf ’s passion for second-hand items shows throughout the house. Visit Aaf and her family, and let’s show you her ideas on how to implement the style and create a great atmosphere in a new house.

Ideas for the living room
The living room is spacious and bright, and full of personality, soul and charm. The furnishing colors are neutral and natural materials play an important role. Aaf has used lots of items and furniture made of raw wood, rattan, leather and fur throughout the house. This adds a great, rustic twist to the interior design. Use small collections for your arrangements. Copy Aaf ’s idea: place all your bottles in an old box, collect all your old reels or place your old suitcases on a shelf. If you place your things together in this way, you can add many different things to a room without it looking messy. At the same time, the items look much better when they are displayed together. Aaf and her husband mounted old French shutters on the big living room windows and hereby created a much nicer atmosphere in the living room. The French-inspired fireplace adds to the cozy feel. Many years ago, the couple exposed the beams and added new drywall ceilings between them.
