Dear Reader We do like this time of year;
Christmas will very soon be here ... As always, the holiday season seems to be suddenly upon us. Once we turn the page to November, the days fly by so you just have to make sure to enjoy the moment. These next two months are an amazing, lovely time. We’ve surely mentioned it before but we simply love this time of year with everything that it entails. We’re so excited to go out gathering things in the woods, visit markets and go browsing in cozy stores; talking to people, shopping and finding inspiration. We can’t wait to decorate inside and outside the house – to be creative and come up with ideas. We’re looking forward to making decorations and planning sweet surprises in the form of Advent gifts, special Christmas presents or hostess gifts. To making and eating all of the delicious foods and heavenly candies. Spend time with friends and family that we may not get to see as often throughout the rest of the year. You may think we get our fill of Christmas from work. After all, we do ”Christmassy” things year-round. We’re always working on new ideas, making new designs for Christmas decorations and coming up with article pitches. But that doesn’t keep us from going nuts when we finally reach November – at home and at work! This results in lots of wonderful Christmas articles offering a wide range of inspiration, among other things. Dorthe’s amazing Advent decorations really take the cake this year in our opinion. They’re just so beautiful, unique and each with their own charm. They’re each based on a color theme so you can find inspiration regardless of whether you prefer gold, copper, silver, traditional red or more natural tones. You’ll also find inspiration for pretty Advent calendars in true Jeanne d’Arc Living style, which we dare say will thrill any recipient. We hope you’ll really enjoy your Christmas preparations and have as much fun with it as we do.

Delicate French Christmas
Simple elegance with rustic, French elements characterizes the decor in this wonderful apartment in the center of Hannover, Germany. The apartment is inhabited by Meike and Adam. Meike always dreamed of living centrally right in the heart of the city but yet she wanted an idyllic location. Certainly far from every city can offer this scenario. Here in Hannover, however, the young couple has succeeded in finding housing that’s centrally located and has everything they need, including a certain degree of idyll. When you look out the window, you see squirrels collection hazelnuts for their cache. If that isn’t idyllic, we don’t know what is. The apartment is furnished very simply with wonderful, French finds. The couple has added interesting twists to the decor here and there but everything is kept within a neutral range of colors to create a sense of calm and peace, which is very important to Meike. She can’t live with too many things around her – or colors for that matter. Her Christmas decorations are equally simple but very evocative. Once again the neutral tones are predominant. Meike has a very soft spot for poor man’s silver with beautiful collections, particularly of candlesticks, around the apartment. So the natural choice for her Christmas decorations was silver. The combination of the couple’s rustic, French treasures and vintage Christmas decorations made from silver is lovely. Plenty of candles accentuate the simple and beautiful Christmas atmosphere.
Ideas:
You don’t need a lot of knick-knacks to set the mood in a room. A few groups of lit candles create plenty of atmosphere not just for the holidays but year-round. The torso of an old dress form has found its place on the floor and is decorated very simply with a beautiful wreath and a pair of angel wings for Christmas. To add more depth and character to the room, Meike has chosen a painting with darker color tones. If you find a beautiful, old painting that you like, you could choose to remove the frame and hang it as-is. This will often create a simpler look for your decor. If your decorating style is quite simple, like Meike’s, a frame-less painting fits in well. Just imagine if the painting had a large, grandiose frame like the ones often seen with old paintings. It would steal all the attention in the room – you wouldn’t notice anything except the painting. This way it becomes a more integrated part of the decor. The dark colors from the painting recur in the dresser knobs, on the old torso and on the beautiful, five-armed candle holder on the end table. The painting contributes to a sense of calm and harmony because it isn’t the only thing with darker colors.

Ideas:
All of the furniture is dressed in white. The upholstered furniture is wrapped in delicate, white throw blankets and soft, white sheepskins. There are plenty of large, wonderful throw pillows in white pillowcases. The combination of the lovely, freshly-ironed, white textiles and the worn wood furniture creates a completely enchanting and very cozy atmosphere in the living room. The Christmas tree is decorated in white and silver – very simple and beautiful. Placing a smaller Christmas tree on a small dresser as shown here is a very sweet idea. It really shows to its best advantage against the otherwise naked wall. The tree is planted in a pot so it will keep through the holidays without a problem, setting the Christmas mood without dropping its needles. A large collection of old candlesticks made from poor man’s silver add plenty of atmosphere in the reading area. The corner cabinet is very unique and was found at a flea market. It’s a perfect fit for this corner. The candlestick collection brings to mind a cozy fireplace or perhaps an altar. Meike will often sit and relax in this old, fur-lined armchair, finding plenty of inspiration in magazines from around the world. You can achieve the same ”fireplace effect” by grouping together a collection of candles on a hutch or dresser. Make sure to use candlesticks of different sizes and shapes to make the arrangement seem warmer and more evocative. You don’t have to worry about the candles burning down evenly either. A beautiful, old crystal chandelier hangs decoratively from the ceiling in the living room. Meike selected a simple chandelier to support to the simplicity and harmony in her home decor. The same principle applies as for the painting. Had Meike chosen a lavish chandelier with plenty of details and decorations, it would take all the attention in the room whereas the simple crystal chandelier that she has chosen supports the simplicity in the decor and helps to create the sense of harmony that is so important to the couple.
