Dear Reader

That amazing atmosphere that arises, the moment of happiness that you feel when you’ve wished for something with all your heart, worked hard for it and then finally reach your goal is simply indescribable. You probably know what we’re talking about? It might be a special item that you’ve saved up for and are finally able to buy. Or maybe you’ve finally succeeded in bringing out the perfect patina on a wall or a piece of furniture. Created the exact atmosphere that you wanted in a room or something else altogether. It goes for everything that we do in life. No matter what, it’s a satisfaction that no one can take away from you. The joy and pride in what you’ve achieved. If everything was presented to you or just came easy, the pleasure at the result wouldn’t be the same at all. We definitely know a thing or two about that here at the office. Our readers might think that we’ve simply got all the answers. Naturally, we have a lot of know-how as far as creativity and decorating goes but then that’s all we do every day at work – and when we’re not at work, our mind is still constantly preoccupied with new ideas anyway. The creativity and inspiration doesn’t turn off just because 4 PM rolls around and we’re off work. But we also dive into new and unchartered territory a lot. We’ve adopted the wise words of Pippi Longstocking: ”I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that.” Thus we also make a great number of mistakes along the way when trying something new. We have to use a method of trial and error, sometimes with practically zero guidance. So there’s great excitement and we experience the aforementioned sense of happiness when things turn out well and we finally succeed, perhaps after several failed attempts. So our advice would always be to take the leap, do what you want and be curious. Believe in yourself and you’ll succeed. We hope you’ll enjoy this issue of the magazine and that you’ll find plenty of inspiration for early summer projects, big and small.

Brocante style in the master bedroom It’s now time to take a look at the large attic room in our series of articles about the transformation of Jørgen and Lonnie’s second floor. This particular space was previously a large, old drying loft entirely without any windows or dormer on this side. Now it’s a large and inviting master bedroom with plenty of light. In order to create this amazing room, a very large dormer with no less than three windows was added. This now allows plenty of daylight to flow into the room. A wide windowsill runs all the way across the wall beneath the dormer, providing a nice balance and plenty of room for knick-knacks. Yet another shelf has been put up beneath the windowsill. They’ve insulated the wall and put up partition walls. In order to allow daylight into the large landing just outside the bedroom as well, two large, old window sections have been put in facing the landing. The overall goal for all of the rooms was to ensure plenty of natural light, including to the large landing, so skylights would not be necessary. The lovely, old window sections were bought secondhand from www.genbyg.dk. They have shutters on the outside that can be closed if you want a bit of privacy. The walls are painted with Vintage paint in ’Antique rose’ and a few of them are wallpapered with our own floral wallpaper that matches the color perfectly.

Lonnie has hung up her collection of old hand mirrors and brushes with various lace ribbons on one side of the attic. This is a fun and decorative way to group many similar items together in one place. A few of the brushes have no handles so they decorate the windowsill instead.

The wonderful, old figure was bought at a brocante market in Belgium. It depicts the Virgin Mary with infant Jesus and has the most beautiful patina. The colors are just perfect for the color scheme of the room as well.

Lonnie put a great deal of thought into making sure that the room didn’t turn out too feminine. When the walls are rose-pink and there are flowers on the wallpaper, the pink can get to be a bit too much. So she deliberately combined it with other colors. She chose black, brown, mustard yellow, dark tea-color and antique gold. Rustic and masculine items such as linen bedding, the bedside lamp, top hats and iron chests provide a balance between the raw and feminine.
