Let’s toast to our final issue of the year. The A.R.T.S.Y Magazine team is ecstatic to end it with a group of powerful and inspiring women on the cover. For the first time, A.R.T.S.Y has gone global with our main feature. The love that went into this new chapter of the magazine has created a profound impact on the team and ultimately, our art and platform. In partnership with Universal Music Japan, we had the opportunity to travel to Tokyo and spend a few days learning and immersing ourselves in the culture. Most importantly for this trip, we got to see firsthand the mass admiration and fandom that the Japanese audience had for the women of Perfume - the queens of J-Pop music and fashion idols in their own right. This gave us confirmation that issue 19 needed to be special and unprecedented. To achieve a truly groundbreaking issue, we collaborated with international brands, designers and photographers to bring you stories through our editorial photos. We are beyond proud of the creative team’s work on the cover, including Tommy T’s immaculate photography, Dale and Gerardo’s stunning designs and the compelling story from Lizzie Mac with words from the heart of Tokyo. A sincere thanks to the ladies of Perfume and their team for giving us the opportunity to document their story we hope this issue has done true creative justice for our readers, their fans and the world.

There was a music video on; at least I thought it was a music video. I had never seen a music video that had such a rich story and attention to detail. I had never heard the song and couldn't identify the artist so I was excited to get to the end to see the description. At the end, I saw it was "Stop And Stare" by OneRepublic and was directed by Anthony Mandler. I thought to myself, “I can do that. I love music and I’m good at storytelling.” And at that moment; my directorial career began.

Incorporating fashion into my films is important. I'm a fan of simplicity. I love my characters to have a basic pallet of wardrobe, but incorporate a given piece (whether a shirt, accessory) that will grow with them as the story moves along.
