Dear Reader
It’s still cold outside but crocuses, winter aconites and snowdrops now cover the ground and sometimes the days are indeed warmer. We feel the sun becoming more and more powerful, and that’s a fantastic feeling. Still, we shouldn’t let ourselves be tempted by the wealth of summer plants offered by garden centers and florists because night frost is still a possibility now and for the next weeks to come. Instead, you can welcome spring into your life by filling your outdoor pots with wonderful bulbs and more robust plants such as horned violets, heart’s delight, pearl hyacinths and fritillaries. We’ll tell you all about them in this edition of the magazine. “Welcome!” can be expressed in many different ways – also by creating a nice and welcoming hallway, and that’s the topic of our article theme in this edition. You can also take a look at one of the first large, finished rooms in “Sleeping Beauty”, one of the living rooms, where we’ve brought out the natural, original charm. And – as always – the magazine is full of good interior design ideas from all the exciting homes that we’ve visited. Enjoy reading!

Maaike lives in a big, spacious and very light apartment in beautiful Netherlands. 4 years ago, she wanted to make a change to her life and she discovered the world of old things and antiques. It all started with a pair of old, beautiful, patinated shutters – that was all it took to kick off this new passion. Now, her home bears the clear mark of her good sense of finding true treasures. She loves simple and light things with a hint of wonderful colors. Behind the sofa are a pair of old shutters with lots of patina and Maaike has hung the most wonderful, old bridal corset on them. The shutters are raw and peeling, and the corset is feminine and elegant – a perfect contrast that turns into a beautiful whole. You’re in no doubt that this is the home of a true brocante girl. Still, Maaike has managed to create her very own, simple brocante style.

Although she likes light and simple things, colors play a quite important role in Maaike’s interior design. Her arrangements are very well-organized and color-schemed, and that creates a beautiful whole throughout the home. Maaike is good at integrating color as a natural element: the colors are never left on their own but are always part of a whole. The living room is dominated by shades of blue and turquoise. A couple of wonderful brocade cushions with soft shades of blue and a few other items in the same color shades add a fantastic atmosphere in this room. Although some of the shades are quite bright, they don’t attract your attention. Instead, they ’re just a beautiful, quiet part of the interior design. This is a good example of the importance of sticking to a certain color scheme if you want to create a whole. Very simple but absolutely beautiful.
