Dear Reader

Lonnie and I used to be more into neutral, soft and balanced colors in our interior design. In fact, when we established the magazine back then, we were known as ”the boring gray ones”. Perhaps some of you recognize this if you recall the magazine during its first few years. Many years have passed since then and we’re no longer afraid of color. Luckily. Throughout the years, more and more colors have made their way into our homes and into the magazine but they’re still quite dusty and balanced rather than bright. We’ll probably never use bright colors. We have, however, realized how well color works in our homes if used in the right way, and that’s what we’re trying to inspire you to do by showing you a very nice and colorful home on the first pages of this edition of the magazine. Here, colors are plentiful but the way that the home has been furnished and the way that the colors have been combined makes it all incredibly inviting and nice. In fact, this edition contains lots of color because summer is here and that makes us all want to use more color: pick colorful bouquets of wild flowers, plant colorful plants and indulge in delicious, colorful food. Our theme – roofed outdoor spaces – is also full of wonderful color combinations. We wish you a colorful and festive summer – and enjoy reading!

Perhaps you’re thinking that it ’s easy to furnish a home as beautifully as Benedicte has because she’s an antiques dealer but that ’s got absolutely nothing to do with it. Benedicte lives in such a beautiful home because this style is in her veins. She’s always loved interior design and things with history so when she was young, whilst all the other girls were playing with their dolls, Benedicte was painting furniture or the walls in her room. She did it simply because she couldn’t help it. Now she lives with her family in a marvelous, old house in Uzès in southern France. The family moved in 3 years ago and they started off by painting all floors, ceilings and walls white. The color scale ranges from blueish to greenish and Benedicte has consistently used the original, old colors of southern France as her starting point.

7

Benedicte prefers furniture and interior which is unspoiled and original – preferably worn so that you can tell that the things have been used for a long time and come with a history. You might call this style perfect imperfection or fading beauty. Benedicte has an eye for genuine items that create coherence and a perfect southern French atmosphere in the entire house.

Idea :

Do like Benedicte and be true to your chosen range of colors. This will create a consistent sense of calmness and a red thread throughout your interior design. As you can tell from these pictures such colors might be very strong but also faded and soft. As long as they fit your color scheme, everything is allowed. 8
