ATMANIRBHAR MEDTECH RESEARCH TOWARDS AFFORDABLE GLOBAL HEALTHCARE GOVERNANCE
I
t gives me immense pleasure to share with you all that my MedTech Research advocacy outlined in upcoming event MedTech Policy Mahotsav Conclave 2023, has been paid attention to, in recently presented Union Budget 2023-24. MedTech Research shall go in long way in bolstering the sustainability of MedTech parks and Industry Ecosystem, by contributing breakthrough, advanced and affordable Medical Technologies. Advanced Medical Technologies are essential for upgrading MedTech for quality patient care, reducing ever increasing import bills, establishing Indian MedTech’s global supremacy and contributing foreign exchange to state exchequer through incremental exports. With plethora of globally acclaimed centres of excellence (CoEs) like IITs RECs , DRDO, IISC, ISRO etc.and availability of seasoned R&D talent across Indian MedTech companies, and visionary policy and resilient healthcare leadership, Atmanirbhar MedTech Research should be our eternal goal in ongoing century. I also look at Atmanirbhar MedTech Research from global health security perspectives for the reason that economic stability of global populations would be unfortunately compromised if global healthcare spends go up on account of unaffordable MedTech. More over Premium MedTech comes with huge Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cost with extended /evergreening parent regimes and have cascading impact on economic security of populations. Hence an Atmanirbhar MedTech Research is imperative for global healthcare governance. Coming to the Union budget 2023-24 , I wish if couple of healthcare industry’s demands including hiking Import duty and slashing GST, would have been met. Moving on, 157 nursing colleges in the vicinity of medical colleges is great initiative for better nursing learning and skills development. Likewise augmenting health infrastructure in identified 300 aspirational blocks is another landmark initiative towards including and empowering panchayat raj administration in rural healthcare development. I strongly believe that rural healthcare development indices must be true measure of UHC excellence. Wish you all a great New Financial Year 2023-24

FUJIFILM INDIA EXPANDS ENDOSCOPY SOLUTIONS PORTFOLIO WITH NEW COMPACT ULTRASONIC PROBE SYSTEM AT BRONCHUS 2023
F
UJIFILM India, a pioneer in healthcare imaging and information systems, announced the expansion of its endoscopy solutions portfolio with the new compact ultrasonic probe system PB2020-M2 at the 3rd Annual conference on Interventional Pulmonology – “BRONCHUS 2023”. The two-day conference at Hyderabad was attended by all leading Pulmonologists from 18 countries where FUJIFILM India showcased its comprehensive range of Pulmonology solutions through one of its kind “Experience center” at the trade exhibition. The newly launched, PB2020-M2 compact ultrasonic probe is designed for a more efficient examination to provide real-time ultrasound imaging of peripheral lung lesions. This small and lightweight system is user-friendly and provides high resolution ultrasonic images. It comes with an outer diameter 1.4-1.9 and it can easily pass through 2mm working channel bronchoscope. FUJIFILM India Endoscopy Division also showcased the new slim line Video Bronchoscope EB-710P, which is a thin endoscope equipped with an exceptionally compact CMOS sensor. The tip is a mere 4.1 mm in diameter, so it may penetrate the periphery of the lung much more easily than a conventional system. In addition, there is a rotation mechanism which allows the user to return the endoscope safely to its original position before the withdrawal. With its extremely small diameter and its rotation function, the innovative EB-710P endoscope system increases the safety and comfort of a bronchoscopy. Additionally, Dr. Nobuyasu Awano,

ROBOTIC DONOR HEPATECTOMY – NEW HORIZON IN LIVE DONOR TRANSPLANTATION

10 February 2023 w w w. me d g a te to d a y.co m
It is important to note that there is a huge burden of liver diseases in our country, and for those who develop end-stage liver disease, the only definitive treatment is liver transplant. However, there is a huge scarcity of brain-dead organ donors in our country due to lack of awareness. In such circumstances, living related organ liver donors remains the only feasible option. and reduced time for recovery when procedures are done with the help of a robot, Dr Abhideep Chaudhary, Dr Imtiakum Jamir, Dr Gaurav Sood and Dr Niteen Kumar shared the recent 3 cases who underwent three robotic donor hepatectomies using the latest 3D Xi DaVinci robotic system. All the three donors were women who had a previous caesarean section scar and avoiding an additional big (reverse L Shaped) upper abdominal scar posed a major challenge. Doctors made use of the new robotic system making pin hole sized incisions for the robotic ports and extracted the graft through the previous pfannenstiel scars. They had an uneventful post op recovery and were satisfactorily discharged on post operative day three. BLK – MAX has evolved into a highvolume liver transplant centre. The growing demand for minimal scar and early recovery has motivated our team to venture into robotic donor surgery. The latest 3D Xi Da Vinci robotic system has manoeuvrable four articulated robotic arms which can be fitted with different instruments and act as an extension of the surgeon’s hands, allowing him or her to perform a surgery with pinpoint accuracy and maximal safety. Hence, it is under the control of the operating
its ease of use for the urgeons, the da Vinci Xi robotic system has provided a number of benefits to our donors like: smaller scars, less blood loss, decreased postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay with faster recovery and return to daily activities, albeit the cost remains a limiting factor for its use presently.
