AMERICA DERAILED By John Friend
A
merica is derailing, quite literally. In recent weeks, major derailments of railroad cars have taken place in Houston, South Carolina, and, most notably, in East Palestine, Ohio, a small industrial town that sits on the border with Pennsylvania just north of the Ohio River. The derailments come weeks after union railroad workers engaged in a heated standoff with the large railroad corporations and the Biden administration. After threatening to strike, largely over complaints of being overworked, lack of paid sick time, safety concerns, and decisions by railroad executives to cut inspections and regular maintenance and service of tracks and railcars, Democrats in Washington forced a deal on rail workers to prevent a potentially devastating disruption to America’s supply chain, in which railroads play a key role. Although precise details as to what led to the derailment in Ohio have yet to be announced, it seems evident that railroad corporations placed profits over the best interests and safety of their workers, not to mention the environment and cargo they are responsible for transporting. Given the low level of trust Americans rightly have in governmental institutions, politicians, and the mass media, speculation about the train derailment in Ohio and the release of tox-

ic chemicals into the environment—including potentially the Ohio River, one of the most important waterways in the country that connects to the mighty Mississippi—has run rampant on social media. The uncertainty and allegations have only served to spread fear, confusion, and hysteria. Of course, the release of highly toxic chemicals into the environment is assuredly a very concerning matter. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the federal agency investigating the accident, 38 railcars of a Norfolk Southern train derailed on the
evening of Friday, Feb. 3, near East Palestine, including 11 transporting toxic or hazardous materials such as vinyl chloride, a carcinogen that is used in manufacturing plastic. Officials conducted a controlled release and burn-off of many of the chemicals in the derailed cars, prompting concern over pollution and health effects for locals in the immediate and surrounding areas. Americans certainly deserve straightforward answers, especially those in East Palestine. Calls by this reporter placed to numerous private businesses in the immediate vicinity of the derailment, including Cardinal Welding, which sits almost directly across the highway from the derailment, revealed that all of the businesses in the area of the accident were evacuated shortly after the derailment, only returning to work Monday, Feb. 13. The locals expressed satisfaction with the response by authorities, and no one this reporter spoke to said they or anyone they knew directly experienced any negative health impacts as a result of the toxic chemical spill and burn-off. Activists on social media and various alternative media outlets, however, have alleged serious health problems among local residents and those in the surrounding area. Major mass media outlets and federal authorities have downplayed the incident. Pete Buttigieg, Biden’s transportation secretary—the federal official who should be most concerned about the accident—has ignored the situation and instead expressed concerns about too many white men working construction jobs. While investigators and workers continue the clean-up operation and monitor both the air and water in the area, questions and concerns remain. What is not in question is the fact that train derailments, toxic chemical spills, lack of oversight, totally ignored safety standards, and profit-driven corporations are all indications of a country in rapid decline. ★

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
Great Caesar’s Ghost! We Need a Superman to Save This Nation
L
ook! What’s that up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? More than likely it’s a Chinese reconnaissance balloon you are seeing, as it makes its way across America—or it could be a black plume of deadly gases wafting across the landscape from the “nuking” of dozens of derailed train cars carrying toxic chemicals smack dab in the middle of East Palestine, Ohio. The chance that it’s a bird you see are diminishing, as well, as multiple avian species are falling out of the sky in the Ohio Valley at a concerning rate, poisoned by this catastrophic environmental disaster. Fish and other wild and domesticated animals are dying, too, as attested to by residents around East Palestine. One lady’s chickens dropped dead in their coops after breathing in the tainted air our government has assured nearby residents is safe for human consumption. Could it be a plane? Maybe, but that seems unlikely, especially if you looked up into the sky on Jan. 11, when all U.S. air travel was halted due to the complete failure of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Notice to Air Missions (NAM) system that day. Thousands of flights were canceled and tens of thousands more seriously delayed due to the failure of NAM upon which our entire air travel system is dependent. Maybe it’s a missile from an F-16 fighter jet sent to pierce one of those Chinese balloons we’ve heard so much about in recent weeks. But, as I write this, the U.S. government alleges it is not even sure what our
fighter pilots are shooting down. Some are speculating that the U.S. Air Force may have downed a few of our own weather balloons at the behest of our commander-in-chief, a man even “cub reporter Jimmy Olsen” could see has lost his faculties. Could it be a speeding bullet? That, too, is doubtful. Any bullets the United States is making are shipped faster than Superman can fly straight to Ukraine where they are being used (we think) by the Ukrainian armed forces to stave off Russian soldiers who are making progress in a new offensive to control strategic regions of that proud but incorrigibly corrupt nation, now led by a psychopath whose recalcitrance has led to the deaths of more than 120,000 of his fellow countrymen, according to the Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency. How the Mossad knows what is happening in Ukraine, I don’t know. But one thing the Israelis are good at is counting dead bodies. The truth is, our leaders don’t know where the nearly $200 billion in total aid we’ve pledged or sent has gone, or what percentage of it has actually reached those in need—civilians and soldiers alike. Allegedly, Superman was more powerful than a locomotive. The problem with that is, locomotives need tracks to run on and, in America, today, keeping trains on their rails seems to be a gargantuan task. According to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 54,539 train derailments occurred in the U.S. from 1990 to 2021. This averages out to 1,704 train derailments a year. Ac-
cording to the same bureau, we have seen 12 significant train derailments already this year, many of them hauling cars filled with hazardous chemicals. The good news is, fatalities associated with train derailments are low. But tell that to people who have been exposed—and will be exposed for decades—to the multitude of cancer-causing agents released in the air. This might all be fixable, but Biden’s “woke” cabinet is so obsessed with renaming racist boulevards and lamenting over the skin color of road crews, they can’t bother with such trivial matters as clean air, clean drinking water, railroads that function, and passenger jets that can make it from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, what you might see up in the sky or on the ground is not Superman. He is a fictional character invented in the 1930s. But we could sure use him right now. America is in big trouble, as you will read in this issue of AMERICAN FREE PRESS, one of the last bastions of real free speech you will find left standing anywhere. It’s unfortunate that our politicians, members of the controlled press and academia have such little regard for this vital right. Free speech is on life support, and the doctors have given it a poor prognosis. I have been working in this business for almost 30 years, and what I read in this issue of AFP shocked even me. I thought I was immune to bad news. Sadly, AFP was right again: The FBI, CIA, the White House, social media outlets, co-opted news stations and partisan websites
have been hiding the truth from us about nearly everything of importance for a very long time. To them, free speech is as deadly as kryptonite, and they have gone to great lengths to shield themselves from the effects of it. The evidence is clear: Those who are supposed to make life better for us collude behind closed doors to perpetuate false narratives, deny us the truth, sway elections, crush open forums for discussion of the most important topics of the day, and silence any and all who question their decisions. Even the new “Global Pandemic Treaty”—ostensibly crafted to protect the health of humans, animals and Planet Earth itself—contains language designed to stifle all debate and any criticism of the strategies that global technocrats and kleptocrats will be insisting we adopt “for our own good.” Even Gov. Ron DeSantis—a superhero in the eyes of many conservatives—seems fine with clamping down on this absolutely imperative right. I need not call attention to any particular article in this issue of AFP. Every single one of them is of vital importance and acts as its own miniclarion call blaring out, “Our nation is in mortal danger.” I see no real “Superman” in sight, and that is depressing. But please remember, the truth must be told honestly and without any sugar coating, no matter how it makes us feel. ★

News You May Have Missed Good for You, Joe A bipartisan group of legislators in the House and Senate introduced a bill on Feb. 9 that would repeal the congressional authorizations for the use of force from the 1991 and 2003 Iraq wars. The measure is expected to pass the House but might not make it through the Democrat-controlled Senate. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters that he would like to end these types of emergency authorizations that violate the Constitution and hand presidents the power to start wars without consulting Congress, but it’s anyone’s guess whether he will help pass the bill. Joe Biden said he will sign the measure if it passes.

After a New York Times reporter asked aides to Vice President Kamala Harris to turn over names of people who’d speak well of her job performance, the Times called those people for a report on the VP for a recent issue. All of the individuals privately told the Times, “They had lost hope in her.”
George Alan Kelly, 73, was recently charged with first-degree murder after he shot a man on Jan. 30 whom authorities believe to be Mexican citizen Gabriel Cuen-Butimea. That day, Kelly was going about daily chores on his ranch in southern Texas when he saw multiple men dressed in camouflage and carrying AK-47s on his property hiding in the woods. Kelly said he called Border Patrol, but no one came. Kelly said he had to shoot at one of the men after he pointed his weapon at Kelly. When Border Patrol and local deputies finally showed up, they searched his property but found no one. Later, Kelly said he saw a man, face-down in the grass. He called law enforcement again to inform them of the body. After a brief investigation, Kelly was eventually charged with murder. Kelly’s attorney said the dead man had a radio on him and was wearing military-style boots but was not armed or in camo. According to Kelly’s defense attorney, there remain plenty of unknowns, including what kind of bullet caused the fatal wound, what was the time of death, how long the body had been there, and what position the person was in prior to receiving fatal wounds.

If you want to know why the U.S. unemployment rate is so low, look no further than the labor participation rate—a measure of how many people are participating in the U.S. job market—which has been dropping since the 1990s. Today, the labor rate is only at 62.3%. This translates into some 5.2 million Americans who want a job but are not included in the participation or unemployment rate because they have given up looking for one.
When it officially entered military service in 2005, the U.S. Air Force hailed the F-22 Raptor as an “exponential leap in warfighting capabilities.” American taxpayers ultimately paid $67 billion to buy 187 of the high-tech planes, which had been in development since 1986 “to project air dominance, rapidly and at great distances.” On Feb. 4, the billion-dollar F-22 scored its first-ever victory against an airborne adversary when it shot down a Chinese balloon off the coast of South Carolina.
Support Plummets A new poll of the Democrat Party reveals that the percentage of that party’s members who want President Joe Biden to seek a second term has plummeted from 52% last October to 37% today.

Huge Losses in Ukraine According to U.S. military estimates, 180,000 Russian soldiers and more than 100,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed or wounded so far in the war in Ukraine, reports the news and commentary website “American Conservative.” Pinning down exact numbers is difficult given that the U.S. military’s estimate is calculated from satellites, social media, and on-the-ground reporting. Other experts say war casualties amount to 250,000 on each side.
Foreign Land Grabs According to The Washington Examiner, foreigners own 41 million acres of American farmland, an area larger than the state of New York. China only owns 1% of this, but its acreage has grown dra-
Another FBI Whistleblower An FBI whistleblower recently revealed that the FBI’s Richmond field office released an internal memo in January warning against “radical traditionalist Catholic ideology.” Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin, who was at the bureau for six years before he was indefinitely suspended without pay in June 2022, published the document, titled “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities.” The report relied almost entirely upon information from the Southern Poverty Law Center, a far-left grievance group that has made hundreds of millions of dollars scaring little old ladies and smearing good Americans.
Race Is ‘Paramount’ A white employee is suing the city of Seattle for alleged racial discrimination, saying the city’s insane “diversity, equity, and inclusion” training sessions made work a nightmare for everyone. Since 2013, Joshua Diemert has worked for the city as “program intake representative.” He quit recently after nine years, convinced he could no longer work at an office that he says subjected him to pervasive racial harassment and discrimination because of the color of his skin. “The city of Seattle believes that race representation is paramount, and they believe that people should not be judged by their individuality or their individual actions, but by their collective race,” said Diemert.
Systemic Racism Is Real A white male student is suing six Texas medical schools that rejected him for admissions but allegedly admitted other students—namely students of color and women—who had lower standardized medical test scores. The Texas Tribune reported that, according to the lawsuit, the man “graduated from UT-Austin with a 3.96 grade point average and a biology degree. He scored a 511 out of a possible 528 on the exam required for admission, known as the MCAT, and spent two years applying to medical schools.” After he was rejected, he filed an open records request and “obtained the race, sex, grade-point average, and MCAT score data for every applicant,” the lawsuit noted. He found that the “median and mean grade-point averages and MCAT scores of admitted black and Hispanic students are significantly lower than the grade-point averages and MCAT scores of admitted white and Asian students. Admitted female students have lower MCAT scores than admitted male students.”
Racist Hoax A few years ago, a now-infamous story was making the rounds that two black Johns Hopkins University professors “discovered” that a white home appraiser had severely undervalued their home, so they conducted an experiment, made it look like the house was owned by a white person, and got a higher appraisal value. Profs. Nathan Connolly and Shani Mott alleged racism was most assuredly at play here. It now turns out their claim is complete and utter nonsense. The white home appraiser originally named in their claim recently hit back at the professors, filing a lawsuit against Connolly and Mott. “Dr. Connolly and Dr. Mott’s ill-conceived ‘experiment’ involving different appraisers, a seven-month gap, and intervening changes in market conditions would not withstand even basic scrutiny in the serious academic environment in which they work,” the appraiser’s counterclaim states.

AFP ON TERRORISM
Uncle Sam the Worst Global Terrorist?
• Report on destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines by NATO being suppressed By Philip Giraldi
I
t was perhaps completely predictable that the governmentsubservient mainstream American media would almost completely ignore the devastating report released by top investigative journalist Seymour Hersh on Feb. 8. Hersh’s article was entitled “How America Took Out the Nord Stream Pipeline,” with a secondary headline reading “The New York Times called it a ‘mystery,’ but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now.” The article, which Hersh self-published on the internet, describes in considerable detail the preparations and execution by the U.S. Navy Diving and Salvage Center and Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) Maritime Branch, coordinated and directed by the White House, to sabotage and destroy Russia’s four Baltic Sea Nord Stream gas pipelines, a war crime and terroristic action that moved the United States much closer to direct conflict with Russia. Given its potential political blowback, the Hersh story might very well be the most important exposé to appear since fighting began in Ukraine over a year ago, but it is being ignored by the White House, which is denying the report, with a spokesman only commenting that “this is false and complete fiction.” The CIA’s spokesman, Tammy
Thorp, likewise replied to Hersh that “this claim is completely and utterly false.” The U.S. Navy was also asked for comments but did not respond. Meanwhile, the media, clearly evident by its inaction, has religiously adhered to that government line, possibly due to some mistaken notion that our national security forces have to be supported when they are going “toe to toe with the Russkies” over Ukraine. On the contrary, it is precisely when the government is behaving recklessly—not to mention criminally—to bring about an unnecessary war that the press should be in hot pursuit of the story and what it means. That is particularly so as the Ukraine conflict is now escalating and threatening to go nuclear as both sides dig in to incompatible positions. I have known Sy Hersh for a number of years and spent time together with him and other former CIA colleagues helping to confirm details of some of his earlier exposes on U.S. government abuses and outright lies in its somewhat not completely credible role as “guardian” of national security. Hersh is a meticulous investigator who never, in my experience, accepted uncorroborated claims in support of his narratives. I have some understanding of who his sources in the intelligence agencies and Department of Defense might be in this case and it should be accepted that what he has written is completely verifiable and derived from individuals who were actual participants
in the activities described. That is not to say that there will not be failures to recall accurately certain details including aspects of the possible Norwegian involvement, something critics are already pointing to, but the main thrust of “whodunit” and “how” is pretty definitively demonstrated. The report is long and includes a great deal of information on both the planning and the political decisionmaking that went into the willingness to destroy the pipeline, which I will briefly describe. Sy claims the following: It has not exactly been a secret that many in the United States government have long regarded the Nord Stream pipelines to be a security threat as the supply of cheap natural gas to Germany as a gateway into Europe by Russia would enable Moscow to create a dependency on it for energy which could be manipulated to produce political and strategic advantage. As the crisis over Ukraine deepened in 2021, the Biden White House set up a secret task force that worked on possible scenarios that focused on using military and intelligence resources to physically destroy the pipelines with some measure of plausible deniability of the U.S. hand in the process in order to avoid political blowback from America’s European allies or escalation of the conflict. The secrecy was needed to protect Biden from charges of hypocrisy since he had repeatedly pledged that the U.S. would not be directly involved in any

armed conflict with Russia over Ukraine. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan headed the interagency task force, which convened throughout late 2021 and included key players from the CIA’s Maritime Branch and the Navy’s Diving and Salvage Center, both located in Panama City, Fla., as well as the State Department, Treasury and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The operation was originally treated as a covert action that would have required congressional oversight, but that fig leaf was abandoned and it became a “highly classified intelligence operation” when Biden and others in the administration stated publicly
Covert Covid Culprits: An Inquest Chronicle The years 2020 and 2021 were among the most impactful in human history. Many other researchers have chronicled their extraordinary developments, focused on government agencies, mass media outlets, pharmaceutical companies, intelligence agencies, “think tanks” and the military. None has conducted an honest inquest into specifically “who” as a collective was responsible for the devastation of the alleged pandemic, lockdown measures and vaccine programs inflicted on humanity. They blamed The Powers That Be, the Deep State, Globalists, China, the World Economic Forum, the president, Congress, Big Pharma, and others. In Covert Covid Culprits, Karl Haemers reveals the presence within all these power centers of members of a particular cabal who exercised a remarkable coordination of the pandemic itself as well as the global response. They profited financially, extended their reach of control, and further entrenched their power. Who are these criminals—both hidden and obvious—against humanity who planned, executed, covered up and redirected the greatest hoax, scam, fraud and Satanic op in world history? Once we know who, we will develop effective self-defense. In the end, we must consider a possible resolution of the gravest issue the world has ever faced. and clearly their intentions, making what eventually took place an openly declared policy, perhaps intended to send a warning to the Russians. A number of options to destroy the pipelines was discussed. According to Hersh, the participants in the meeting, many of whom were hawks who had cut their teeth in the Obama administration, clearly understood that they were proposing an “act of war” that was being considered because the president had ordered it. In early February 2022, shortly before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Biden publicly pledged during a joint news conference, accompanied by silent and frowning German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, that “if Russia invades … there will no longer be a Nord Stream 2.” When pressed on how he would carry that out, he responded, “We will—I promise you— we will be able to do it.” Later, after the destruction of the pipeline, Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the sabotage offered a “tremendous opportunity to once and for all remove the dependence on Russian energy.” “That’s very significant and that offers tremendous strategic opportunity for the years to come,” Blinked noted. Not that any more confirmation was needed, but, on Jan. 22, 2023, Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland gloated while testifying to a U.S. Senate committee that “the administration is very gratified to know that Nord Stream 2 is now … a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea.” The Biden administration, in its arrogance, has, more or less, been admitting that it was behind the sabotage, which it certainly had the motive and means to carry out, though it was carefully avoiding leaving any actual evidence behind that it had carried out the destruction. It has also been deliberately avoiding any congressional involvement, presumably to avoid any discussion of war powers or even due to concerns over possible media leaks. The mechanics of placing explosives, followed by the actual destruction of the pipelines, was as follows: Under cover of a NATO Baltic Sea exercise called BALTOPS-22 in June 2022, U.S. Navy and possibly also CIA Special Activities and Norwegian deep sea divers descended 260 feet to a spot off the Danish Island of Bornholm, which was considered to be a location where the pipelines converged in relatively shallow tide-free water and were particularly vulnerable. They attached C-4 explosives

both to Nord Stream 1, which was operational, and Nord Stream 2, which was completed but was waiting for German safety and security regulators to approve it so it could become active. The explosives were designed to be remotely detonatable. The explosives were on a timer that created an escape window for those initiating the detonation, and were to be activated by a secure signal sent by a sonar buoy that was dropped onto the prepared site by a Norwegian navy helicopter. The Norwegians were essential in that role due to their own military presence close to the targeted part of the Baltic as well as their considerable experience in deep-sea cold-water operations. A Norwegian Navy helicopter in the area would arouse no particular concern, even from the ever-watchful Russians. Under orders to “Go!” from Washington, on Sept. 26, 2022, the Norwegians dropped the sonar buoy and, a few hours later, the C-4 explosives were detonated, immediately knocking out three of the four pipelines. In the immediate aftermath of the bombing, the U.S. and its allies in the controlled media made every effort to blame the Russians, who were repeatedly cited as a likely culprit. Leaks from the White House and from the British government never established a clear explanation of why Moscow would be into self-sabotage of a lucrative business arrangement. A few months later, when it was revealed that Russian authorities had been quietly getting estimates for the cost to repair the Nord Streams, in the neighborhood of $10 billion, The New York Times seemingly cluelessly described the development as “complicating theories about who was behind” the sabotage. Indeed, it was never clear why Russia would seek to destroy its own valuable pipeline which was intended to be a major income source for many years to come, a proposition that former British diplomat Craig Murray describes as “deranged.” But a more telling rationale for the president’s action came from Secretary of State Blinken. Asked at a press conference in September about the consequences of the worsening global energy crisis, most felt in Western Europe, a delusional Secretary of State Blinken described the development in positive terms, enthusing how the destruction would “take away from Vladimir Putin the weaponization of energy as a means of advancing his imperial designs.” The tale told by Sy Hersh is yet another great betrayal by the country’s
ISSUE 7 & 8 • AMERICAN FREE PRESS
so-called leadership, an egregious example of the United States government aided by its lap dog media again lying to its own citizens and the world to cover up a criminal act that in no way made Americans safer or more prosperous. In the U.S., only the gadfly Tucker Carlson, among prominent journalists, has up to this point dared to present the investigative account developed by Hersh in a fiveminute segment of his program. Beyond that, there remains, nevertheless, a lot of questions about the destruction of Nord Stream, which was unambiguously an act of war or even terrorism, that continue to be unanswered. Consider, for example, how NATO countries, the U.S. and Norway, de facto attacked fellow NATO country Germany, which was an economic partner in the pipelines. Though some British involvement in the operation, also detected by Russian intelligence, was quickly revealed publicly by then-Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss’s “It’s done” text to Secretary of State Antony Blinken 60 seconds after the detonation, Berlin apparently was not trusted enough to have a voice in the planning and execution of the bombing even though it was gravely damaged by it. Also, Article 5 of the NATO charter says an attack on one nation requires all other alliance members to aid the country that was attacked, and it is intriguing to consider whether the rest of NATO ought to go to war with the United States and Norway. Alternatively, can “friends” in the defensive alliance attack one another without consequences, or ought the U.S. and Norway now be considered rogue nations? Will the alliance itself be able to stay together if several member states take steps unilaterally that can severely damage the economy of another member? And how are the Germans actually responding to their sinking economy and standards of living, with closing factories and cold houses as a consequence of the U.S./Norwegian action? But the final and biggest question remains: How will Russia retaliate? Will it be one step closer to possible nuclear war initiated by the reckless development? Moscow will certainly be careful to pick the right time and place, but the last act in this play surely remains to be written. ★ ——

AFP ON THE DEEP STATE
‘Hamilton 68’ Targeted Online Dissenters Yet another FBI-connected “watchdog” allegedly exposing “Russian disinformation” has turned out to be a totally biased, Deep State organization whose mission was to crush any online defenders of Donald Trump.
By S.T. Patrick
Clint Watts became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he served on the Joint Terrorism Task Force. He has consulted for the FBI Counterterrorism Division and FBI National Security Branch.
H
amilton 68, a project that purported to keep powerful institutions and politicians aware of Russian disinformation on Twitter, has now, itself, been outed as a widescale disinformation campaign headed by an ex-FBI agent whose actions benefited the U.S. intelligence apparatus most. The outing of Hamilton 68 came via Matt Taibbi’s landmark reporting on the pre-Elon Musk partisan decisionmaking that created and enforced free speech regulation on the social media giant. Taibbi, best known for his left-of-center reporting for Rolling Stone magazine, has since left the publication and pursued a full-time career as an independent journalist. This has given him the freedom to, for example, be one of the left’s leading critics of the Russiagate fiasco. It has also allowed him to continue his work as an anti-war commentator, and report honestly about the so-called “Twitter Files,” documents and communications Musk ordered leaked to tell the real story of what was happening at Twit-

ter before he assumed control. Describing the crux of how Hamilton 68 worked, Taibbi wrote, “The secret ingredient in Hamilton 68’s analytic method was a list of 644 accounts supposedly linked ‘to Russian influence activities online.’ It was hidden from the public, but Twitter was in a unique position to recreate Hamilton’s sample by analyzing its Application Program Interface (API) requests, which is how they first ‘reverse-engineered’ Hamilton’s list in late 2017.” The problem is that most of the 644 accounts were neither bots, nor Russian, nor Russian-supporting. They consisted largely of anti-establishment Twitter users who strongly and actively criticized U.S. foreign policy, the military-industrial complex, the phony Russiagate debacle, the war in Ukraine, and U.S. policy in Syria. Yoel Roth, a former Twitter executive, described the legitimacy of Hamilton 68 as “bull****.” “Virtually any conclusion drawn from [the dashboard] will take conversations in conservative circles on Twitter and accuse them of being Russian,” Roth said. Hamilton 68 was run by former FBI man Clint Watts and was supported financially by the Alliance for Securing Democracy and the German Marshall Fund. Watts is an NBC and MSNBC contributor on matters of intelligence. But the operation and its support-
ers were not entirely Democrat partisans. On the board of the Alliance funding the project sat Republican political and media insider Bill Kristol, who was Vice President Dan Quayle’s chief of staff and who served on the Project for a New American Century (PNAC), whose report is viewed skeptically as a road map for the aftermath of 9/11. Hamilton 68 had a long list of supporters, from the academic to the political, even after some Twitter officials knew it was a faulty gathering of accounts that were improperly labeled. Harvard and Princeton both supported it. Whenever a conspiratorial view of history arises, some wave it away as an impossibility because, after all, how could so many people involved in something secretive keep it to themselves? Emily Jashinsky of “The Federalist” website explained how exactly that happened with Hamilton 68. “This is a damning illustration of the institutional corruption rotting American politics and culture,” Jashinsky wrote. “You may wonder how exspooks could create a secret list, hide their results, pass off the research as legitimate, convince just about every major media outlet to run with the findings, convince elite universities to run with them, and keep Twitter quiet in the process. The answer is that some institutional powerbrokers are corrupt, some are inexcus-
Thank God for Elon Musk. The secrets he has helped reveal are monumental. ably incompetent, and others are a combination.” Hamilton 68 proves that media organizations labeling and then weaponizing “disinformation” reporters is a practice that is not only prejudicial, but also political. Media organizations began using their own disinformation reporters to spread the disinformation that were the Hamilton 68 reports. The disingenuous results of the Hamilton 68 net were swept under the rug in favor of the harm it was doing to its targets. Even for many who knew of the severe problems with its dashboard, the ends justified the means. Being tagged as a “Russian agent” was as effective as being labeled a “Red” during the heart of McCarthyism. 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton once ludicrously suggested former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) was a Russian agent. It was a strategy that worked in many instances, and those sponsoring it were more than willing to look past the failed cases to focus on the results at-hand. To seek and destroy anyone who placed himself in any way in front of the anti-Trump train that dominated the national media and national political scene beginning in 2016 was the goal of those who narrow-mindedly believed this was the only noble pursuit of a good American. If you weren’t strongly enough against Trump, you were in the way. Taibbi, evidently one of but a few honest investigative journalists, has exposed this project and many that were eroding Twitter from the inside. What else was Big Tech doing to manipulate public opinion? What other politicians have been ruined by operations like this? Can we ever trust anything we ever hear again about any president—especially one who dares to mention normalizing relations with our alleged “enemies”? ★
