St. Patrick's Day According to the 2021 Community Report, there were a total of 595 DWI arrests made in McKinley County. So remember don't drink and drive because not even the luck of the Irish can save you from a DWI.

Thoughts From The West End Facebook, sorry Meta boasts on their about page that they are “bringing people closer every day.” On Instagram’s about page, they tell us they “give people the power to build community” as well as “bring the world closer together.” Twitter talks about how they “serve the public conversation” with “healthy conversations.” It sounds like social media is about building community, and that is always a good thing. We need these social media platforms because over the last three decades we have seen a significant decline in organized or informal groups. Local organizations like Kiwanis, Lions Club, Masons, and others have all seen membership dwindle. It is not just these groups, but church memberships, sports leagues, service clubs that have been challenged on getting people to participate. I think about that three-decade number

because that is about the same amount of time it has been since we have had social media platforms. Maybe we have all gone online and forgotten that real work gets done on the ground. At the Gallup Journey we think about community on a regular basis. It takes a collective group to get things completed. Social Media platforms have come under political pressure about misinformation as well as a number of other concerns. This month try to make a small change. Put your phone down a little more and look up. Ask that friend out to lunch instead of sharing a picture of what you ate for dinner. Join an organization that promotes something you have an interest in. Let’s just try to become a little more involved in our community, and I am suggesting not online. Jpa-
