END WAR POWERS
• Populist support for reining in presidents grows in Congress By the AFP Staff
O
n March 10, Congress quietly voted down a major bipartisan War Powers resolution that called on the U.S. military to bring troops home from Syria immediately and to end the illegal occupation of that country. The measure may have failed, but it managed to attract support from both sides of the aisle—bringing together populists on the right, like sponsor Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), and the left, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)—to curb presidential powers to wage wars without congressional approval. Writing for the news and commentary website “Responsible Statecraft,” Blaise Malley and Connor Echols noted, “The bill is the latest in a series of congressional efforts to end the little-known U.S. military presence in Syria.” In a press release announcing the bill, Gaetz argued, “Congress has never authorized the use of military force in Syria. The United States is currently not in a war with or against Syria, so why are we conducting dangerous military operations there?” To justify the measure, Gaetz cited “mounting concerns” over Presi-

dent Joe Biden’s failing mental faculties. Gaetz referred to an August 2021 interview with ABC News on the U.S. occupation of Syria where Biden didn’t even know the U.S. has troops in that country. “[W]e don’t have military in Syria to make sure that we’re going to be protected,” Biden incoherently told the ABC reporter. At the time of that interview, the U.S. military had nearly 1,000 U.S. soldiers in the northern part of Syria, down from over 2,000 troops in 2018. Top U.S. officials have repeatedly criticized Russia for violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity, yet they remain wholly unconcerned about the
glaring hypocrisy over Syria. Syrian officials say the United States’ ongoing occupation is illegal and violates their national sovereignty. While Gaetz’s legislation may have failed, it is part of a growing effort in Congress to take back the power to declare war from presidents. In mid-March, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee deliberated a bill that would repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Iraq. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) added that he plans to introduce a measure to end the 2001 AUMF, which gave President George W. Bush broad powers to respond to any individual, group, or nation that officials claim were involved in the 9/11 attacks. “For years I’ve led the fight to return war making powers back to Congress where they belong,” said Paul. “Over 20 U.S. military actions are justified by claiming the 2001 AUMF authorizes worldwide military force. My amendment would make clear that the current Congress must authorize current war not a congress from two decades ago.” Recently, Robert Ford, the ambassador to Syria under Barack Obama, also came out in favor of bringing troops home from Syria. In a letter to Congress in support of Gaetz’s bill, Ford said the U.S. mission has no clear objective. “We owe our soldiers serving there in harm’s way a serious debate about whether their mission is, in fact, achievable,” wrote Ford. According to estimates, since 2001, U.S. wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Pakistan have cost American taxpayers nearly $7 trillion. Note that Joe Biden says he will sign measures revoking the 2002 and 1991 AUMFs if they come across his desk. ★

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
Where to Find an Honest Appraisal of U.S. Policies
iven the choice, who do you think you’d trust most when it comes to an honest critique of U.S. foreign and domestic policy? Would it be U.S. politicians? Russia’s Vladimir Putin? Communist China’s Xi Jinping? Certainly you would never agree with those “brutal dictators.” Maybe you would. On Feb. 21, for instance, Mr. Putin delivered a speech to the Russian people that was ignored in the Western press. In it he said the kinds of things you’d like to hear from a U.S. president. Putin vowed to: modernize Russia’s infrastructure; bring industry back home; demand respect for parents and teachers; protect national culture; support war veterans; work diligently for peace; expand trade to more foreign nations; protect religious institutions; improve the educational system; offer tax breaks for companies that invest in new technologies; and more. His critique of the United States is worth summarizing as it was scathingly honest. Putin said: No other country has so many military bases abroad as the United States. There are hundreds of them—I want to emphasize this— hundreds of bases all over the world; the planet is covered with them, and one glance at the map is enough to see this.
He added that, “According to U.S. experts themselves, almost 900,000 people were killed during wars unleashed by the United States after 2001, and over 38 million became refugees.” He made sure to mention that, “We
did not invent these statistics; it is the Americans who are providing them.” As for the war in Ukraine, Putin made two points. On the matter of Russia’s national security, he pointed out: We were open and sincerely ready for a constructive dialogue with the West. We said and insisted that both Europe and the whole world needed an indivisible security system equal for all countries, and for many years we suggested that our partners discuss this idea together and work on its implementation. But, in response, we received either an indistinct or hypocritical reaction. But there were also actions: NATO’s expansion to our borders, the creation of new deployment areas for missile defense in Europe and Asia [etc.].
Putin also insists that: We are not at war with the people of Ukraine. I have made that clear many times. The people of Ukraine have become hostages of the Kiev regime and its Western handlers, who have in fact occupied that country in the political, military, and economic sense and have been destroying Ukrainian industry for decades now as they plundered its natural resources.
As for American “culture” of the 21st century, Putin said: Look what they are doing to their own people. It is all about the destruction of the family, of cultural and national identity, perversion, and abuse of children, including pedophilia, all of which are being declared normal in their life.
Putin also emphasized that: “Millions of people in the West realize that they
are being led to a spiritual disaster. Frankly, the elite appear to have gone crazy, and it looks like there is no cure for that. … We will protect our children from degradation and degeneration.” Mr. Putin also promised that Russia would “continue working with our partners to create a sustainable, safe system of international settlements, which will be independent of the dollar and other Western reserve currencies that are bound to lose their universal appeal with this policy of the Western elite, the Western rulers.” As far as Russian culture and civilization, Putin insisted that: Russia is an open country and, at the same time, a distinct civilization. There is no claim to exclusivity or superiority in this statement, but this civilization of ours, that’s what matters. Our ancestors passed it to us, and we must preserve it for our descendants. We will develop cooperation with friends, with all those who are ready to work with us. We will adopt the best practices but will primarily rely on our own potential, on the creative energy of Russian society, on our traditions and values.
Soon after Putin made his speech, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs weighed in, publishing a paper entitled “U.S. Hegemony and Its Perils.” In that devastating critique of U.S. foreign and domestic policy, the Communist leader denounced the rampant use of force by the United States and the implementation of weapons that cause great harm to civilians. This includes depleted uranium weapons that cause not only “collateral damage” to civilians, but also contribute to the long-term poisoning
of the environment. In the paper, Chinese analysts went on to document the number of destabilizing “color revolutions” U.S. intelligence agencies have engaged in across the globe and also the number of assassinations or attempted assassinations of which the United States was a party. There were dozens in Central America alone. The Chinese also accused the United States of looting and exploiting less affluent nations for rare minerals and coveted resources. In conclusion, the Chinese government urged that the U.S. should “conduct some serious soul-searching” and “critically examine what it has done, let go of its arrogance and prejudice, and quit its hegemonic, domineering and bullying practices.” [See page 26 for more on China’s report on the folly and tragedy of America’s pursuit of global hegemony.—Ed.] Who would think we’d have to turn to “the worst oppressors of human rights on the planet”—though they certainly aren’t saints—to find an honest critique of U.S. foreign and domestic policy? I guarantee you will never hear this level of honesty from any but the most courageous souls in the U.S. government—elected or appointed. Unfortunately, when these topics are broached honestly, the speaker is branded a traitor and the idiocy of our foreign and domestic policy is laid bare for all to see. Our leaders can nev★ er allow that to happen.

So far, the Department of Energy (DOE) has not signed off on any of these projects, but with new U.S. laws promoting all things electric, experts say pressure on the DOE may force change in the coming years.
Shady Biden Business Deals During a recent interview with news and commentary website “Breitbart,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said that President Joe Biden’s administration has been “fighting” with GOP investigators “every step of the way” in Congress’s official investigation of the president’s family business dealings. McCarthy said the White House has been delaying turning over hundreds of “Suspicious Activity Reports” (SAR) on Biden family members’ bank transactions. According to Breitbart, banks will flag suspicious activity and turn it over to the government, creating the reports. Several Biden family members, including the president’s son, Hunter, and his brother, James, have multiple SARs that the U.S. Treasury Department has been sitting on. Treasury officials eventually turned over the documents to investigators. The House Oversight Committee expects to make a full report on shady Biden business dealings later this year.
Truth About Covid The House sent a bill to President Joe Biden recently requiring his administration to declassify all information held by U.S. agencies relating to potential links between China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology and Covid-19. Every representative voted for the measure. Earlier in March, the Senate passed similar language by unanimous consent. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) sponsored the bill. Biden has not said whether he will sign the bill.
War-Profiteering Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (ret.) rose to infamy four years ago as an obnoxious witness during the first impeachment proceedings of former President Donald Trump. Fox News reports that Vindman is now being accused of trying to profit off the war in Ukraine by pitching lucrative defense contracts through his private company. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) recently blasted Vindman as an “opportunist,” accusing him of repeatedly trying to personally profit from his attacks against the Trump administration and his reported dealings in Ukraine.

His funny memes and mockery of Hillary Clinton were highly effective in changing people’s mind. Following Trump’s election, Mackey closed up shop, but the Deep State didn’t forget and sicced the FBI on him specifically for posting a satirical video encouraging

Chinese High Rise Pig Farms The Chinese recently erected a massive 26-story high-rise building, but it’s not for human residents. Instead, the multi-level tower will be a “pig farm.” Each floor operates like a self-contained farm for stages of a pig’s life. Towers like this are reportedly part of China’s push to reduce its dependence on agricultural imports. Democrats to use their cellphones to text in their vote, joking that texting was a legal and effective means to cast a ballot. Mackey has now been charged under a 100-year-old law written to prosecute vigilantes for violence that has never been extended before to include speech. Mackey’s trial started in early March. He faces 10 years in prison if convicted.
Anti-White Official Probed According to the New York Post, New York City officials are investigating emails sent by Staten Island’s top education official, Dr. Marion Wilson, that allegedly contained messages targeting school officials for being white and promising to get them removed. The Post cited one email from the superintendent, which read, in part, “White folks need to recognize this is not the boys club anymore. A strong black woman runs this [expletive deleted] now, and they can either get on board or get out. If they don’t get out, I’m going to take them out one by one.” Over the years, Wilson has served as a principal and deputy superintendent before being appointed superintendent last year.

A survey conducted on behalf of the Manhattan Institute of more than 1,500 Americans aged 18 to 20 found that Critical Race Theory and “radical gender ideology,” known collectively as “Critical Social Justice” (CSJ), is pervasive in U.S. schools. According to the poll, 93% of American youths said that they have heard at least one of eight CSJ concepts from a teacher or other adult at school, including “white privilege,” “systemic racism,” “patriarchy” or the idea that gender is a choice unrelated to biological sex.
Crazy Ruling A Minnesota judge recently ruled that a U.S. weightlifting organization must let men who say they are women compete in weightlifting competitions against women. The court accepted the bizarre argument that any physical advantage a man might have over a woman is cancelled out by the “competitive disadvantage a transgender athlete might face from, for example, increased risk of depression and suicide.” The organization in question, USA Powerlifting, had tried to do the right thing and create a third category for anyone, but activists didn’t want that. They want mediocre male athletes to be able to compete against and beat women. JayCee Cooper, a transsexual athlete, had filed the suit against the power lifting organization. When Cooper competed against women, he won. In 2022, Cooper competed in the new open category where he competed against other transsexual males. In that bout, Cooper came in third out of three competitors.
Unfair to Girls A private religious school in Vermont has been banned from all state-run activities and athletics because the school’s girls team refused to play a basketball game against another team that had a male child on the girls team. The Vermont Principal’s Association made the call, arguing that the religious school had violated state anti-discrimination laws concerning “gender identity.” Vicky Fogg, the head of Mid Vermont Christian School, justified her school’s move, saying, “We withdrew from the tournament because we believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players.”

Neocons & Neolibs: A Conspiracy of Silence • Right, left unite to cover up Deep State crimes, maintain plutocracy By Dr. Kevin Barrett
I
t has often been remarked that the United States is being torn apart by an acrimonious dispute between left and right. Democrats and Republicans are reciprocally uncivil in the halls of Congress, while in the streets, groups like Antifa and the Proud Boys regularly have at each other. More and more establishment commentators speak seriously about possibilities of secession and/or civil war. But at the higher levels of policymaking and information management, there is a remarkable convergence between ostensibly opposing sides. Neoliberals, those intellectual heirs of John Locke and John Stuart Mill, and neoconservatives, the cult followers of Leo Strauss and Carl Schmitt, would seem to represent diametrically opposing ideologies. Yet they regularly work together—one might even say “conspire”—to advance the interests of the power elite that runs the Western bankster empire. Fostering the illusion of meaningful differences between the establishment left and establishment right is a key feature of their modus operandi. The near-total overlap between the neoliberals and neoconservatives is most visible in their shared silence around the most outrageous state crimes against democracy (SCADs), as outlined by Florida State University Prof. Lance deHaven-Smith in his excellent book Conspiracy Theory in
America. Two recent examples are the neocons in the Trump administration allegedly triggering the Covid-19 pandemic via a biological attack on China and Iran, a topic Ron Unz has researched and written about extensively, and the Biden administration’s demolition of the Nord Stream pipeline as reported by Seymour Hersh. No establishment thinkers, whether of the left or the right, will even entertain the most plausible, best supported hypotheses about who was responsible for these two horrifically destructive events. In both cases, the question “who had the means, motive, and opportunity” has an obvious answer: the U.S. government, or elements thereof. But neither neocons nor neolibs ever speak of the elephant in the room. In the case of Covid-19, any knowledgeable student of geostrategy could have told you back in 2010 that the U.S. would probably launch a covert, deniable biological attack on China within the next decade or so, in order to try to shrink the gap between Chinese and American economic growth. The ideal anti-economy bioweapon would be highly contagious but with a relatively low (1% or so) mortality rate. Its main purpose would be to force lockdowns and other economyshrinking measures and launch the process of decoupling the U.S. and Chinese economies. When precisely that scenario came to pass three years ago, the neocons (including the Covid-19 bio-attack perpetrators) immediately launched a false-flag “blame China” campaign. The neoliberals, those eternal useful
idiots, blathered about nonsensical bats-to-pangolins-to-humans scenarios. Censors forbade discussion on social media. Neither side remarked on the elephant in the room. Likewise, when the Biden administration committed the worst act of eco-terrorism in history by blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines, everyone with eyes saw it coming a mile away. Biden himself even bragged in advance about his plan to destroy Nord Stream. Like the Covid-19 attack on China, the Nord Stream attack on Russia and Germany stemmed from an obvious and predictable U.S. geostrategic imperative. But just as Democrat opponents of Donald Trump failed to hold the Trump administration accountable for its Covid-19 attack on China and Iran, and the global pandemic that ensued, Republican opponents of Joe Biden have refused to go after the terrorist president for his attack on Nord Stream. A conspiracy of silence reigns, just as it did after 9/11 and, before that, the JFK assassination. The neocon-neolib conspiracycoverup entente is odd, given that neolibs profess to fervently believe in transparency and constitutional democracy and human rights, while neocons believe there is only one human right: The right of the strong to rule over the weak by any means necessary, starting with big lies and unchecked violence. How could two such antagonistic groups ever cooperate? The answer, as mentioned earlier, is that the neolibs are the neocons’ useful idiots. The neocons believe con-

spiracies are necessary. The neolibs believe conspiracies don’t exist. So, the neocons consciously design, carry out, and cover up the most criminal and destructive covert operations, while the neolibs incessantly bleat that such things never happen and that anyone who notices them is a “conspiracy theorist.” Scratch a smart neolib, and you’ll find a neocon lurking beneath. Biden, for all his liberal rhetoric, is at heart a gangster. Like the neocons, Biden takes for granted that the powerful, himself included, lack scruples and moral limits. Outrageous crimes, whether for personal gain (like his “Big Guy” exploits with Hunter) or geopolitical advantage (like his destruction of Nord Stream) are simply par for the course. Men like Biden and, before him, LBJ don’t need to be Straussian philosophers to come by their gangster ethics. Why don’t the two gangster parties try to defeat each other decisively by exposing each other’s crimes? For the same reason a city’s leading crime families don’t wage all-out war on one another: It’s bad for business. ★ ———

NGOs a Key Tool in U.S. Censorship Campaign By Dr. Ron Paul
I
often joke that I survived Washington because I had low expectations, but last week’s hearing of the House Weaponization of the Federal Government subcommittee would have tested the lowest of my low expectations. The purpose of the subcommittee is to look into the politicization of U.S. government agencies and its effect on our civil liberties. But last week’s inaugural hearing of the committee was not at all a good look for the Democrats, who brought nothing but insults for the witnesses. Things got off on the wrong foot very quickly, as Democrat committee members seemed less interested in what witnesses Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger had to say than in attacking the messengers. Ranking committee member Stacey E. Plaskett, a Democrat from the Virgin Islands, began by calling Taibbi a “so-called journalist” who poses a “direct threat” to people who disagree with the work he has done on the “Twitter Files.” Taibbi, who to the likely dismay of the Democrats on the subcommittee
Bad day for truth at hearings on the weaponization of government. is hardly a right-wing Republican, corrected Plaskett’s smear, pointing out to her that, “I’m not a so-called journalist. I’ve won the National Magazine Award, the I.F. Stone Award for Independent Journalism, and I’ve written 10 books including four New York Times bestsellers.” In addition, Taibbi pointed out that most of his journalism career was spent at Rolling Stone magazine, which is hardly a conservative political outlet. The Democrat decision to make this hearing a partisan political issue and attack the journalists who brought us the truth about secret U.S. government censorship-by-proxy of Americans who hold views unacceptable to government elites is extremely unfortunate. The Democrat decision to attack honest liberals like Taibbi for bringing us the truth is baffling. Taibbi and Shellenberger and the other journalists involved in exposing

government malfeasance in the “Twitter Files” have done a great service to all Americans concerned about the collusion between government and corporations to silence speech that the government does not like. Taibbi posted his statement to the subcommittee as another episode in the “Twitter Files” series and it may have been the most disturbing release to date. In this release Taibbi documented what he calls the “CensorshipIndustrial Complex.” This is the collusion not only between government
and Big Tech to censor “wrong” views, but also those parts of the so-called “non-governmental organization” (NGO) sector that are directly funded by government. This NGO sector, it turns out, has been a key tool in the U.S. government’s efforts to censor Americans who fail to toe the U.S. government line on everything from Covid to Ukraine. The “non-government” organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy, the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, the Alliance for Securing Democracy and dozens more pose as simply good citizens concerned about disinformation while in fact they are mostly or completely funded by the U.S. government to do the U.S. government’s bidding. Taibbi calls this the “absolute fusion of state, corporate, and civil society organizations,” but there is another word for it: fascism. And that is where we are headed in the United States unless all of us—conservatives, libertarians, liberals, and progressives— wake up and fight for the restoration of the First Amendment. ★

Ron Paul, a former U.S. representative from Texas and medical doctor, continues to write his weekly column for the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, online at www.ronpaulinstitute.org.
Pushback Grows Against Entrenched Covidocracy By Mark Anderson
A
round the world, significant pushback against “the Covidocracy”—the heavy-handed governmental regulatory and enforcement bureaucracy that mushroomed amid the Covid-19 “pandemic”—is gaining steam, posing an unprecedented challenge to the medical mattoids who’ve been working their will on the world for far too long. In Alberta—sometimes called “the Texas of Canada,” given its size, oil output and relatively conservative political culture—the provincial government has instituted the Alberta Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act. Introduced Nov. 29 and enacted Dec. 8, 2022, the Act states that it will be used “to address federal legislation and policies that are unconstitutional, violate Albertans’ charter rights or that affect or interfere with our provincial constitutional rights.”
“The act gives Alberta a democratic legislative framework for defending the federal-provincial division of powers while respecting Canada’s Constitution and the courts,” the legislation powerfully states. The act is a reaction to Canada’s notoriously tyrannical Covid-19 crackdown at the federal level which, just over a year ago, culminated in a massive convoy-protest that thundered into the national capital of Ottawa and stayed there for a month. Incorrigible Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent hither swarms of police, including mounted officers, who broke up the convoy in a sometimes-violent fashion. Scores of protesters were arrested; several are still awaiting trial. Another reassuring Canadian event involves Anne Tessier, a municipal official from West Nipissing, Ontario, who apologized for her part in advancing the Covidocracy under what she admits were lies and false pretenses. Igor Chudov, an independent
writer who maintains a Substack page, marveled that the local official’s action evidently represents “the firstever sincere and complete apology for vaccine mandates coming from a government official.” In a video message, Town Councilor Tessier offered the apology while noting that Covid-19 cases were more prevalent among vaccinated people compared to the unvaccinated. Tessier admitted that vaccine mandates “caused a lot of unnecessary harm and animosity within our workforce and community.” “I believe that this policy was mistakenly adopted 12 months ago,” Tessier stated. “The general population knows today that the Covid vaccine does not stop the spread of the virus.” Meanwhile, in the UK, it has been definitively revealed that a high-level health minister intended all along to “frighten the pants off the public” via the British government’s “public
health” directives relating to Covid19. According to multiple reports, former UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock suggested using fear tactics to terrify the British public into accepting lockdown measures and vaccine compliance. The foregoing does not include the legislative counteractions being implemented against the Covidocracy in Idaho, Georgia, and Mississippi. All told, the World Health Organization’s current Geneva negotiations to finish a world pandemic treaty by May of 2024 and update the meddlesome 2005 International Health Regulations may point toward health tyranny, but the good-news revelations and bold counteractions taking place simultaneously show that the road to such tyranny may not be as clear as the WHO’s commissars would ★ prefer. ——
