Exciting aquamarine colours are a brave and different twist to the many decorations that can be made for Christmas. Aquamarines are an amazing contrast to the green and grey tones of the various kinds of moss, which are just waiting to be collected on the forest floor. Moss is a no-cost natural resource, which can be harvested in sizeable chunks. For this reason, you can use it liberally in both small and large Christmas decorations. Green forest moss grows best in damp places such as pine forests, where you can find carpet size areas of moss, which easily can be harvested. Unlike other types of plants, moss has no real system of roots and dries out easily, while remaining alive. In Denmark alone, as many as 400 types of moss can be found, so all you have to do is get cracking, stick you nose into the undergrowth and dig out some of the many different kinds. Moss is an easy material to work with and can be fastened to many types of foundation. The great advantage with moss is that it keeps its bright colour long after it has been dehydrated. We have made a number of different and slightly alternative Christmas decorations and hanging ornaments, where moss has been a main ingredient. We have also accented with pieces held in lovely shades of blue and green.

A Christmas Tree Decorated with Moss • A Christmas tree made from forged Iron • Forest Moss • Green Floral Wire • Brown Floral Tape Start by wrapping all the “branches” of the tree with the brown floral tape. Then fasten the moss using the green floral wire. The presents under the tree have been wrapped in various kinds of gift wrapping paper and wallpaper in shades or patterns of blue and green. Complete the festive packages by using matching ribbons and lace.

Christmas Ball Decorations with Hyacinth and Moss • Hyacinths • Forest Moss • Green Floral Wire Remove the hyacinths from their pots, but make sure that the potting soil remains with them. Attach moss to the potting soil by using green floral wire and shape the moss into a decorative ball, which is able to stand upright. If more decoration is desired, you can also attach small leaves and twigs around the moss ball. Here, a number of hyacinth balls have been used to decorate a long serving dish. A lovely green sprig with lots of lichen and a number of tea candles are the only additions. Nothing more is needed to set the mood.

Large Heart-shaped Decoration made with Moss • One large Heart made from Cinnamon sprigs • Forest Moss • Green Floral Wire Wrap the heart with moss. Attach the moss using floral wire.
Tip: If a few days have passed since the last time you collected moss in the forest, you can freshen your moss easily. Simply moisten your moss with a water spritzer. This procedure can be repeated several times
