rom February 22-24 the industry’s movers and shakers will be at BETA International, with thousands of visitors streaming through the gates to visit hundreds of stands from the UK and worldwide businesses. BETA International leads the way for the equestrian, country clothing, outdoor and pet sectors, attracting influential buyers and suppliers from across the UK and overseas. In a world of digital communication at the touch of a button, the chance to network face to face with the trade is crucial and, for many, BETA International is where orders are placed, new products discovered and connections made.
Supporters return
The trade fair is supported by many of the trade’s heavyweights, with Charles Owen & Co (Bow) notching up a third year of sponsorship at BETA International as it lends its backing to the Horse Demonstration & Seminar Arena once again for the 2015 trade fair. Leading French manufacturer and wholesaler Ekkia is set to return to BETA International as well as Fashion Show sponsor after a successful inaugural show last year. This showcase for the cream of equestrian and country clothing will be named the Equi-Thème Fashion Show after the company’s flagship brand. The Fashion Show is a
highlight for many, thanks to the professional staging by Karen Irving and Fashion First. Catchy music, eye-catching dance routines and stunning clothing and footwear for the autumn/winter markets make this a must-see for every visitor. “We are looking forward to our return visit as sponsor of the Fashion Show,” says Ekkia’s chairman Jean François Vignion. “It proved a highly effective way of presenting our Equi-Thème range to an international audience of industry buyers and made our regular appearance in this extremely attractive and appealing feature even more special.” Another leading equestrian company returning for a

Apart from showcasing new products and promoting old favourites, BETA International has established itself as a place for learning. Valuable CPD points for SQPs are on offer at BETA International’s AMTRA-accredited seminar ‘Reds, Tapes and Pins’. The seminar is worth ten points and will be presented by veterinary management consultant Jim Wishart in the Charles Owen Learning Centre at The Horse Demonstration & Seminar Arena on Sunday February 22 and Tuesday February 24. “Seminars are an important part of the trade fair and we are extremely pleased to give retailers with an SQP qualification the opportunity to top up on their CPD points,” said BETA International organiser Claire Thomas. “Hosting the initiative on two different days allows visitors greater flexibility when planning their timetable and ensures a highly beneficial and effective trade fair experience.” The 75-minute seminar is free and open to all visiting SQPs. There is no need to book, but bring your SQP number to register on the day.
Saddlery centre
BETA International 2015 is putting skill and craftsmanship firmly in the spotlight as its annual saddlery competitions – organised by the Society of Master Saddlers – take centre stage in the show’s vibrant Saddlery Pavilion The competitions, designed to promote the work of talented trainee saddlers, take place throughout the three days
of the trade fair. On Sunday February 22, apprentices from the Saddlery Training Centre will compete against one another to make the best Pelham rounding. Second-year students from Capel Manor College, Enfield, go head-tohead on Monday February 23 to craft a lead rein with butterfly attachment and firstyear apprentices from both colleges will gather on Tuesday February 24 to make an Irish martingale. The winner of each competition will be selected by a panel of judges from the Society of Master Saddlers, with cash prizes supplied by the Saddlers’ Company. Apprentices train for four years and many go on to set up their own saddlery businesses or take up apprenticeships with master saddlers. Hazel Morley, of the Society of Master Saddlers, says: “The competitions we run at BETA International are a fabulous window for the youngsters who take part to demonstrate their skills to the equestrian industry and we really appreciate the opportunity to show the trade how lucky we are to have the best saddlery training in the world.”
Enter the dragon!
Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden will visit BETA International on Monday February 23 to meet key industry players and present some of the show’s prestigious awards. Deborah, a keen rider and owner of horses, is an ambassador for Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s participation programme. The Hoof initiative is designed to encourage people back into the saddle and explore the many benefits of horse riding. During her visit to BETA International, Deborah will take the opportunity to speak about her involvement in Hoof and share her passion for equestrianism as well as business. Deborah comments: “In my role as an ambassador for Hoof, combined with my love of horses, I am delighted to lend my support to BETA International which is such an important event for the equestrian world. The trade show provides a wonderful showcase for the industry. The range and number of industries exhibiting at the show demonstrates the breadth of the equestrian market and clearly emphasises the high value of this important arena.”
