The makers
Editor-in-Chief Founder Christopher Massardo comes from a background in fashion styling and writing. Prior to starting PRESS, Massardo found his fashion styling work published in international publications such as Vogue Italia, IDOL, Supplementaire and Z!NK and his writing work published in over 20 different publications between Canada and the USA.
Beauty Editor Vancouver based Oz Zandiyeh is a represented makeup & hair artist at Judy Inc. Agency, working in print, celebrity and fashion. Always on the move, Zandiyeh is also an instructor at Blanche Macdonald Centre and a beauty writer and blogger who contributes to Wove Magazine, Style x Beauty Department, ELLE Canada and The EveryGirl.
Editor Editor Amber Watkins brings a diverse repertoire and extensive fashion industry experience to the team. Working as a designer and entrepreneur (developing a line of women’s swim and resort wear) and also a fashion stylist based in Toronto, Watkins is our eyes and ears to one of Canada’s biggest fashion markets.
Fashion Editor Fashion Editor Alyssa Beltempo is an Ottawa based fashion stylist and blogger. Beltempo’s work can be seen on many local television stations, in designer look-books and campaigns, not to mention her role as Fashion Director at one of Ottawa’s biggest shopping centres. With a major passion for fashion, Beltempo has quickly grown as a go-to fashion insider in the nation’s capital.
Contributing Editor Our nomadic contributing editor Shawna Rizzo started her travel spree while teaching English as a Second Language in Seoul, South Korea. Rizzo used Seoul as a launchpad for even more travel, exploring other major cities in Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, China, Macau, Taiwan, England, Canada and an exhausting 6 weeks in India travelling holy cities and learning yoga. Now based in San Diego, Rizzo waits to see where she is taken to next! 8 PRESS the fashion magazine

Alkan Emin Alkan Emin is a Toronto based photographer that divides his time between Toronto and China. His clients include Vogue Italia, Chinese Cosmo, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Lonewolf Magazine among many others. Recently Emin was nominated for the National Magazine Award for Cover of the Year.
Julianne Costigan Costigan is a developing artist with Page 1 Management in Toronto and has been styling for 4 years. Her studies at Ryerson University in Toronto and two intensive programs at International Fashion Management (IMF), Paris, France and Istituto Marangoni, London, England, helped confirm her passion for styling.
Cia Mandarello Mandarello has been in the beauty industry for over seven years. As a hair and makeup artist, she is represented by Page 1 Management in Toronto and has had the opportunity to work with top clients in the fashion and advertising industry.
Dan Grant Dan Grant is a former model agent and scout who left the industry in 2014. Grant is now a freelance writer and co-founder of Toronto’s RunTOBeer running club.
Courtney V The stellar beauty that is Courtney is our cover girl for this edition. Already making waves, recently Courtney walked in Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week for Lan Yu, Zuhair Murad, Yanina Couture and more! We can’t wait to see where this young model will pop up next!
Daniel Sangermani Based in Sydney, Australia, Sangermani discovered his passion for photography back in 2001. After experimenting in multiple facets of photography, including travel, landscape and art, in 2007 Sangermani focussed his efforts on photographing fashion and beauty.

When did you first recognize your passion for acting? I discovered it at about 9 years old when I auditioned for a commercial which ended up being the first acting job I ever booked (Post Golden Raisin Crisp Cereal). I was tired of being overlooked and decided to embrace my ‘weirdness’ and stand out. I felt the most free and had the most fun. I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to have FUN! At what point did it occur to you that you could make this your career? When I booked my recurring role in the TV series The Line, that aired on TMN and HBO Canada. It was a real eye opener and a huge high five from the Universe that I can make my dreams a reality. Can you tell us about the top three accomplishments you’re most proud of? My first commercial - Post Golden Raisin Crisp Cereal, my first recurring role on the TV Series The Line on HBO and TMN Canada and my first feature film - Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) which ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer and Best Screenplay!

When did you first recognize your passion for singing and modelling? On Career Day in first grade, I was positive that I wanted to be a singer when I grew up. My real passion for singing and music showed itself at the age of 9. I was studying Grade 1 music with the Royal Conservatory of Music and received a medallion for having the highest mark in Ontario for Grade 1 singing in 2000. That same year, my sisters and I, along with our music teacher Sr. Joan Pecore, recorded our first Christmas album on a cassette tape. My passion for modelling came when I was 18 and participated in the Miss Teen Ontario East pageant. One of the judges owned a modelling agency in Ottawa and asked me to stop by to learn more about modelling. I was shocked! I had seen models on TV and in magazines, but had never thought of it for myself. After visiting the agency I was sold and began dreaming and envisioning a future that involved this newly found world of modelling.

Advice for the young folks looking to break into the biz? Do it! If this is what makes your heart sing then follow your bliss. Also, always remember to remain humble, grateful, and confident. If you could go back in time, visit your younger self and give her one piece of advice, what would it be? I would say, “hey girl, it’s all good. All the tough stuff is going to make you stronger. Consider those people farmers that are just adding more soil to your seed so you can grow deeper roots to help you rise into the strongest tree in the forest. You’ll eventually appreciate them.”

Can you tell us about the top three accomplishments you’re most proud of? The first would be running my first ½ Marathon. It was both a physical and mental test and has inspired me to want to eventually tackle a full marathon. A second would be placing fourth runner up and receiving the Miss Congeniality award at the Miss Intercontinental pageant in Germany. I was honoured as the Miss Congeniality award is voted on by all of the participants from around the world. The third would be my first time on a magazine cover in 2011. It was PRESS the fashion magazine’s first issue. Still new to the modelling industry at the time, I was ecstatic and so was my town. There was even a congratulatory write up in my local paper about it! What’s one hobby of yours people may be surprised to know? Waterskiing and cake decorating are my all time favourite things to do! My best friend Lauren Enright lives on a beef cattle farm in Douglas, Ontario. I often trade in my stilettos for steel toes to help break cattle, rake hay or travel to agricultural fairs with her and her family.
