inter has always had a special place in my heart. Something about Winter has this mix of wonder and love to me. It’s like that warm kiss from your lover, with the crisp Winter wind grazing your cheeks at just that right moment, almost cinematic with a glint of the Winter sun in the corner of your eye. I love change. I love the prospect of new, and with a new year on it’s way, Winter has this way of representing ‘new’ to me. Though we have less daylight, there is something very bright in my eye when it comes to Winter. As I write this, I’m between travelling to some of my favourite Canadian cities, gaining inspiration and meeting some fascinating people to say the least! I’ve said it before, I love how this business brings people together. In this edition we have spreads photographed in Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles and of course, OTTAWA! Our cover story for example was photographed in Ottawa by local photographer Katia Pershin. The team behind the looks for our cover shoot are some of the best talents the city has to offer. On top of all that we have some amazing guest stars in the spread that you may recognize. The amazing crew at the Brookstreet Hotel the day of the shoot were beyond incredible. How do you know a hotel room is spacious? When it can fit over a dozen people in it, with rolling racks, lighting equipment and etc! Lately, there has been a lot of talk amongst the Ottawa fashion community in regards to what steps need to be taken, in order for us to be taken more seriously as a fashion market. Part of the problem is a lot of those people talking about “what to do”. You see, some Ottawa folks have this little problem called ego and have a very bizarre idea that because they’ve simply been here for so many years that they’re entitled. For those that fall into that category, understand something. You’re making things worse. Tacky, cheap and slapped together is not the fashion brand I am building for this city, you may be and your little group of friends may enjoy it, but nobody else does. The folks who THINK they run things don’t have their finger on the pulse. Then you have the wannabe bloggers in it for the most vain and tacky of reasons. For example, recently at a media preview for a company, a blogging duo arrived, upon learning that there was no “free swag” for them, they did a 180 and left. Attitude like that, and they wonder why they still don’t get paid for what they do. (sorry, it was awfully sunny while writing this and I needed a bit of shade.) In regards to what we have in store for 2015? I will say this. Keep that footwear laced, if you want to try and keep pace. Until next time! The ‘PRESS-tigious’

A little bit more about some of our talented contributors.

Katia Pershin Easily one of the best fashion photographers in Ottawa, Pershin offers a clear vision with editorials and for her clients. Her ability to listen to her clients’ requests and grow her vision from there is one we appreciate and value. Here’s hoping this talent doesn’t get snagged from Ottawa too soon!

Renat Touichev Vancouver based Touichev offers an almost cinematic perspective when photographing fashion. The surreal, breathtaking imagery is always a work of art that we’re happy to feature on our pages.

Melody Iafelice Ottawa based Iafelice was the talented makeup artist behind the beauty work for our pictorial feature with local brand Valamode. From TV and major personalities to editorial fashion work, #MissMelody is showing no signs of slowing down.

Hailley Howard California based Howard photographed our fashion edito ‘Vacancy’ in L.A. Howard’s work ranges from fashion and beauty to commercial and wedding. It’s safe to say we’re very excited to have Howard’s work in the magazine.

Alexander The very charming Alexander stole the show for our Winter 2014 cover shoot. His disarming stare and slick moves were giving us ‘young Michael Fassbender’ vibes all day. Based in Ottawa but having just returned from a contract in Seoul, we look forward to seeing this young man grow.

Brittany The alluring ice princess that is Brittany gave us face in every shot and we just couldn’t get enough. Her perfect blonde locks and bone structure made capturing her beauty that much easier. With a stellar career ahead of her, we look forward to seeing where this young model pops up next!
