Midterm explaination

Preston Ezell I had a pretty smooth process when shooting for this project. First of all my actor, Sal Blake, is a friend of mine that I’ve known for years. He attends Indiana University Bloomington, and he has done several theatrical performances in the past, so the little bit of acting I needed to shoot these shots was pretty swell. My visual aesthetic was pretty basic, as it is a black and white color scale to put on a more depressing saddened mood. The lights were exactly what I was looking for, in fact the whole bathroom I shot in was perfect, because I wanted a place that looked run down and sort of messed up like the characters mood and attitude in the song and photographs. My friend’s bathroom was being remodeled and the uncovered lights, and no mirror were perfect. The first shot is basically my establishing shot. The character is coming in this small room that looks very unfinished, with a gloomy facial expression and not looking much of anywhere but the ground. I put him to the right to put more emphasis on the papers and lights that are more to the middle of the frame. The next shot is of the character writing some of the lyrics to the verse of the song. He is doing this to represent to himself that “he needs to see his face to understand,” something that a lot guys will do when they are cheated on; look at the new guy to see why she did it. These shots are darker than the others, because he is in this depressed and torn mood, where the next shots lighten up, because (in a ironic way) he finds a peace and way to forget through the two bottles in his hands (pills/alcohol), something that would normally be represented by dark lighting.. The latter and plastic on the furniture really gave a point that this couple had a place in life, remodeling their bathroom, and the character comes to this bathroom that holds so many memories to wash them away. I kept the character on the viewers right of the frame for consistency and did mostly medium and close shots so the facial expressions and use of props could really be caught on the camera.
