Dear PLer,

It’s been such a hot, sunny week, and our students have been taking part in a lot of outdoor learning. With our current reduction in classroom space it

Well done, too, to our athletes, who came third in Wednesday’s County Sports. Again, our students represented the school so well.

Both competing bands from PL travelled to Lurgan in Northern Ireland to take part on the UK Pipe Band Championships last weekend. They both delivered their strongest performances to date to take Third Prize in their respective grades.

Everyone behaved impeccably and I received numerous compliments from staff in places we visited and from members of the public on their behaviour. They are a true credit to the School and a joy to travel with.

Special thanks go to Band Secretary, Catriona Black for all the hard work in organising the trip and to the parents who travelled with us for their help during a busy weekend.

S1-3 Prize-Giving

We had a wonderful night on Tuesday, when we were joined by staff, family members and, of course, students for our Annual S1-3 Prize-Giving Ceremony. Guest speaker, Margo Cunningham, set the tone for a night of reflection, recognition and celebration.

Our Prize-Giving events reward both academic success and positive approaches to school equally. Students with excellent grades join students who have demonstrated our school’s Aims and Values and 6Rs of learning over the year, to receive certificates, and our Special Awards, recognising specific achievements, are a highlight of the evening.

The music was provided by our Juvenile Pipe Band, our S3 Band Ghost Town and S1 student Delta Sym. All three contributions were hugely impressive.

Thank you to all staff, students and family members who made our evening work so well, and we now look forward to next week

Financial Support Available to Families

Clothing Grants

Some families are eligible for a Clothing Grant. If this may apply to you, please visit the Free School Meals and Clothing Grants area of the East Lothian Council website for further information. If you would like some help completing these forms, support is available on the East Lothian Council website, or email admin@prestonlodge.elcschool.org.uk. We will be happy to help you.

Community Fund

A combination of corporate funding secured by the Preston Lodge Learning Foundation, and money from our Pupil Equity Fund means that we are able to offer immediate support to all families who need it, breaking down financial barriers to learning.

This Community Fund is available to all families, and we very much encourage families to apply for a confidential, quick grant if they need support. Grants are expected to be in the region of £10 to £50, but all applications are considered on an individual basis. Applications can be made by students, families, staff, and members of the wider community.

An application form is available on school’s website here and please email admin@prestonlodge.elcschool.org.uk or call 01875 811170if you have any questions.
