Economic recovery hinges on record investment in infrastructure as part of the 2021-22 Budget according to Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack, and Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher. The particulars of this plan involves $110 billion spread over a 10year period to deliver ‘nation-building’ infrastructure projects, water security to inland Australia as well as meeting the national freight challenge. This plan includes an additional $15.2 million in new commitments to infrastructure projects which is expected to support about 30,000 jobs across Australia. In addition to a series of ambitious road upgrades, of which there are more than 220 major Government funded projects currently under construction, all of these works are expected to support an approx. total of around 100,000 jobs for the duration of the contracts. The Government will also commit up to $2 billion to deliver a new Intermodal Freight Terminal in Melbourne. This will support both the Victorian and national freight networks, creating up to 1,350 jobs during peak construction and a further 550 jobs during peak operation. Additional capacity delivered by the intermodal terminal is reportedly required to meet the future freight needs of Victoria and Australia’s domestic and international supply chains as well as

realising the full benefits of Inland Rail. This is part of the Government’s commitment to funding transformational infrastructure to increase the productivity, efficiency and capacity of the national freight network. This investment will also support the Australian Government’s National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy. On top of the extensive road works the Budget also has allocations for life-saving road safety investments. Road crashes, according to the Government, cost the national economy approximately $30 billion a year, but this figure is far outstripped by the immeasurable suffering of families impacted by road deaths and serious injuries. The Budget backs an additional $1 billion for the now $3 billion Road Safety Program. With work having commenced in January 2021, almost $1 billion for approximately 700 projects has been approved under Tranche 1 of the program. Future tranches will continue installing lifesaving road safety upgrades to prevent fatal and serious crashes across all states and territories. This funding is estimated to support around 4,500 jobs, taking the total jobs supported across the nation by the Road Safety Program to around 13,500.

Fremantle Ports announces Parker in top job confirm its position as a leader in what is now a very dynamic global maritime environment,” he said. According to Love, the most significant tasks ahead for Fremantle Ports included high-level future planning for the Port of Fremantle, creating certainty for the future by supporting customers’ requirements and improving supply chain efficiency, all in the context of State Government intentions for a new container port and terminal in Kwinana. Other roles with Alcoa which Parker previously held included Director Business Development and Marketing and VicePresident Alcoa Materials Management in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA — a role with responsibility for the company’s North American road, rail and shipping transportation. He has held a range of executive and nonexecutive directorships and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. The appointment follows the retirement of former CEO Chris Leatt-Hayter last year, who held the position for 12 years following the landmark tenure of Kerry Sanderson between 1991 and 2008.
A leader with 25 years of experience will bring a new perspective to Fremantle Ports.

These scenarios are countless. Analytics competitors, according to Davenport, do all these things in a coordinated way “as part of an overarching strategy championed by top leadership and pushed down to decision makers at every level” and that employees hired for their expertise with numbers or trained to recognise their importance are “armed with the best evidence and the best quantitative tools.” He asserts that these individuals

He found that 11 of those organisations were ‘full-bore analytics competitors’ i.e. top management had announced that analytics was key to the basis in which they compete — it’s in their DNA. Even though such a transformation requires significant investment in technology, Davenport claims that it is also equally important for executives to be committed and willing to change the way their employees think, work and are treated. In one of numerous case studies, Davenport looked closer at US-based courier company,

greatly extending cylinder life. “Chrome is very hard, but it actually shrinks after it electroplates onto the rod which leads to micro-cracking,” John says. The Delta-C process fills in these microscopic flaws and creates a perfectly smooth surface on which the seal runs, thus significantly extending the life of hydraulic cylinders, particularly in harsh underground mining and marine applications. John mentions that the company’s newly developed annular-ported double-acting telescopic cylinders are increasing in popularity in a wide range of specialist applications.

to determine the overall concept of the build,” Michael says. From there, according to Maxilift Australia Product Manager, Hayden Niscioli, the subframe design could begin. “After the general shape of the build was decided on, the engineers could complete high level, detailed, stress simulations to look at the stress of every bolt hole, weld and surface to tweak the final design and validate the numbers.” Validation of the design by the vehicle manufacturer was a critical step in the engineering process. “A project of this size also requires design registration to be completed by SafeWork SA as well as Performance-Based Standards approval by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator,” Hayden says. The crane is packed full of features from its removable fly-jib, 2.5-tonne winch, Effer remote access system RACE and advanced stability system SENSE. Effer truly stands out in the market for its control systems. “The Progress 2.0 system coupled with Effer’s advanced stability system, SENSE, allows the operator to have the maximum capability of the crane in any situation while always remaining in a safe working condition,” Hayden says. “The system grants the operator more capacity depending how far out their stabilisers are. Meaning, the operator only needs to have the stabilisers deployed in the areas they are working in, thus reducing the cranes footprint on the job

Industry leader: Katrina Wood TRAILER MAGAZINE SAT DOWN WITH KATRINA WOOD WHO DRIVES FOR HERNES FREIGHT SERVICE IN BRISBANE. AT 24 YEARS OF AGE, KATRINA IS DELIGHTED TO BE DRIVING TRUCKS JUST LIKE HER DAD DID. What first drew you to the commercial road transport industry? Growing up I spent a lot of time with my Dad. As a child I was not a great fan of that but since reaching adulthood I have come to realise it was the greatest blessing. He taught me the value of hard work, independence and perseverance. I started in construction as a bricklayer at 17 and when I turned 21 I decided to go for my truck licence. I passed my HR (Heavy Rigid) test and drove agitators for two years. Then my Dad got sick and I was determined he would see me follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite make it to see that happen, but I know how proud he was that he had taught me the skills I needed to join the industry. What does a standard day for you look like? A normal day sees me up between 4.30 and 5.00 and I start work between 6.00 and 7.00. I generally do three to five semi-trailer loads around the Brisbane area. Most days I finish between 3.00 and 5.00pm then it’s home to recharge and do it all again. What has been a highlight of your career so far? I love my job so there’s a highlight in every
