Boretech leading WA’s HDD utility installations

Western Australian-based Boretech Contracting started as an installer of underground services for Telstra and the National Broadband Network but has since expanded and secured longterm horizontal directional drilling contracts for a vast range of utility projects. The company uses top-of-the-line machinery from Vermeer Equipment of WA & NT to continually deliver excellent project results.

Boretech Contracting is owned by Patrick Dunne and Stephen Roberts, who, with a vast amount of experience in civils and project management, have built the company’s strong reputation based on its quality installations and OH&S standards. Mr Roberts runs the business development and project management side of the company, while Mr Dunne is a more hands partner, running the crews in the field and assuring high standards of safety and success.

This business model is continuing to deliver positive results and is the key to Boretech’s growth as a business, resulting in staff attraction and retention and the running of new high-quality equipment supplied by Vermeer Equipment of WA & NT.

Boretech has secured long term project contracts for the southern metro area upgrades of PVC to HDPE natural gas network, along with the recent awarding of its electrical contractors’ licence for targeting electrical utility upgrades. Adding to its capability portfolio, Boretech has ongoing upgrade projects for the Perth cast iron water main replacement program.

Partnering with Vermeer Equipment of WA & NT, Boretech has grown and refreshed its horizontal direcctional drilling (HDD) equipment, and its partnership with Vermeer’s finance provider DLL Group has been a major support to grow the business over the last few

years. Vermeer Equipment of WA & NT’s supportive courtesy rental fleet helps to keep projects running when scheduled maintenance is required.

“Patrick and Stephen are able to deal directly with Dealership Director Wes McCartney and the company’s supportive employees give every indication that they want Boretech to succeed in every aspect,” says Boretech.

Top of the range equipment Boretech employs the use of the D23x30S3 which is quickly becoming the contractor’s choice in WA, with placed units now overtaking its predecessor, the D20x22S3. With 24,000 lb (106.8 kN) of thrust and pullback and 3000 ft-lb (4067.5 Nm) of rotational torque, the D23x30S3 quietly leads the way in meeting the challenges operators face every day.

For Boretech, this includes being able to take on tough conditions in tight roadside conditions where the small footprint D23x30S3 performs to task.

The D24x40S3 was introduced after a long legacy of the D24x40 Series 2, bringing its tough chassis suitable to Mincon Air Hammer applications and longer urban utility pullback requirements. With 28,000 lb (124.6 kN) of thrust and pullback and 4200 ft-lb (5694.4 Nm) of rotational torque, the D24x40S3 helps maximise machine and jobsite productivity, while class-leading cycle times help get the job done faster.

“After renting the D24x40S3 for a project in Toodyay with tough ground conditions, we knew the D24x40S3 was the machine we wanted,” says Boretech.

Vermeer Equipment of WA & NT also offers the VX100-1600 Mega Vacuum Excavator, which is leading the way with safety in knowing legal road requirements in WA. The company offers this machine partnered with Isuzu Major Motors units on an 6x4 or 8x4 FYH Isuzu meeting, the 26.5 t state loaded GVM limit.

With a 1,200 cfm Roots blower offering up to 23 inHg lift, 3000 psi water pump at 21.2 L/min, three-stage cycling filtration, 5 inch (127 mm) hydraulic boom with maximised capacities of 6000 L spoil and 3700 L of onboard water.

“Maximising WA GVM limits the Vx100-1600 is the right choice in safety and compliance with local laws,” says Boretech.

The latest addition to the Boretech fleet is the D40x55DR S3 Navigator® HDD, which delivers excellent productivity in a broad range of ground conditions, from hard, medium and soft rock to loamy/dirt and clay. This rock drill features dual rod technology that uses an inner rod to provide torque to the drill bit, while the outer rod offers steering capability and rotational torque for reaming.

“The newest addition to our growing fleet gives Boretech the ability to take on rock formations drill shots,” the company says.

The Navigator possesses 40,000 lb (177.p kN) of thrust and pullback and 5500 ft-lb (7458 Nm) of rotational torque.
