Austeck introduces revolutionary inspection system

Austeck has introduced a new CCTV solution which promises to revolutionise pipeline inspection and condition assessment. The Troglotech T815 crawler system is battery-powered, making it safer, lighter, more robust and suited to the most extreme applications, from toxic environments to conditions 100 m below sea level.

Since its inception in 1992, Austeck has been a leader in confined space robotics. Today, the company is one of the largest and most experienced supply and support companies for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation in Australasia.

The company has recently introduced another revolutionary CCTV product to the Australian and New Zealand market. The Troglotech T815 features the latest in battery tech, with all components running off removeable lithium-ion power cells, meaning it’s capable of extended operation times without the restriction of cables and external power generation.

The power source also means it’s lightweight, highly portable and economical to run. The coiler with fully integrated control centre running 300m of cable weighs around 17 kg, less than half the industry norm.

The tiny crawler only weighs about 5.5 kg but effortlessly pulls the full 300 m of cable which weighs only 4.5 kgs. More impressive however is that it can achieve four or five runs of 300 m from a single charge of the battery. No equipment or generators are required for operation and the absence of any power cables makes for an inherently safer, simpler and more robust system.

On most crawler systems, up to 90 per cent of power can be lost in the main cable. One way to mitigate power loss is to increase the size and copper in the cables, but the system then requires a larger and

With a customer network of over 1000 contractors in councils, water authorities and major plumbing and energy companies, it is not surprising the company has developed a far-reaching reputation in CCTV inspection.

heavier crawler to tow the greater load.

Because the T815 crawler carries its own power source, the main cable does not conduct any power, making the apparatus much lighter and more manoeuvrable. The majority of the cable is composed from Kevlar, and the three small conductors only carry signals at safe voltages below 5V.

The system is entirely waterproof, meaning it can be deployed in any conditions. In addition, with a pressure rating of 10 bar, the whole system, including the control centre, can operate submerged up to 100 m underwater.

Made from solid brass and stainless steel, it’s designed to withstand extreme conditions such as deep-sea mining and petrochemical applications. With a wide range of quick-release wheel sets, the T815 crawler can survey a full range of pipe sizes from 100 mm to 600mm. It has sensitive steering and a built-in reverse camera and lights to enable a survey to be performed from either direction.

The T815 crawler system is an upgrade to the T804 push rod system and is entirely compatible with its predecessor, with the display unit, keyboard, frame and battery pack interchangeable between both systems.
