Twenty years selling bulls and heifers through our annual sale is definitely a milestone, but I would have to say that it pales in comparison to the current position of our North American beef industry. We all know that in time there will be corrections, but we will always look back at this era that we are in now, and be thankful for the new price benchmarks that were created. Those who chose to make cattle their livelihood through thick and thin are smiling and enjoying the good times. Good times that were so earned and so deserved!! We have been very fortunate in recent years having raised some very elite herd sires‌ bulls like Kodiak, Tiger, Rebel, and others, have made a significant impact in many beef herds across the lands. Although it is time to move forward with new and exciting genetics, we are still very influenced by those bulls of the past as their daughters now make up a big part of our cow herd. We have an exciting line up of new herd sires that are making their debut in this year’s sale and we look forward to your appraisal of the offering. Calving ease, and performance are money-maker traits that most cattleman want to acquire and many of our bulls will give you both. I would also like to point out that we put a ton of emphasis on udder quality when selecting new herd bulls, and this should help in promoting longevity in your cowherd. Again this year, we will be selling our bulls and heifers by video auction, rather than by parading them live as in the past. We hope you enjoy this format as it really allows you to view the mobility of the animals much better than in a small sale ring. We encourage you to come early to view the bulls and heifers, as they will not be live in the sale ring. All of the bulls will be scanned for carcass merit and that information will be available prior to the sale on a supplement sheet. If you would like to see the scan results, watch our website as we will have the information posted as soon as it is available. Videos of every bull and female is also available on our website, but if you would like a DVD of the sale offering, let us know and we will send you one. Tiger is one of our feature herd sires sold in our 2007 bull sale for a record breaking $52,000.00 for ½ interest. This bull represents all the qualities that we are looking for in Angus cattle. First of all he was born unassisted from a 2 yr. old female with just a 76 lb. birth weight. He then performed all summer and was weaned off his mom on August 30th at 830 lbs. His dam (Echo 84R) did us proud by repeating her performance as a 3 yr. old producing a full brother (HF El Tigre 28U) with almost identical numbers and performance and both years with no creep. El Tigre sold at the Masterpiece Sale 2008 for $82,500.00 for ½ interest. When you stand behind this guy and look down his top you’ll see why we wanted to show a young bull with a little older pedigree. Just a note about our feeding program… With the exception of the bulls which were shown last fall, the entire bull offering has been developed on a high roughage Total Mixed Ration which has been formulated to maximize nutrition without adding excessive weight gain. Our target for gain on our bulls is approximately 2.5 to 3 pounds/day and we like to see the bulls with moderate flesh, athletic, and ready to go to work for their new owners. We know it is very difficult to properly appraise cattle with excessive body condition and we feel it is very beneficial to you, the buyer, to view the cattle when they are fresh and with visual muscle definition. We understand, and pay attention to the fact, that we are in a performance driven business and we strive to source genetics which will help add pounds to your calves, and leave you with desirable replacement females.

35B displays a very angular and cowy look with nice extension in her neck and loads of rib and volume with a deep flank and a nice muscle pattern to complete the package. Her dam has a great udder, fine teats with square teat placement. Bulls from 41W have gone into top commercial herds like Bowbend Ranching and Carl Sidwell (BC). The first crop of calves sired by Smooth are a definite group of top individuals. They calve easy and show great growth potential consistently. We used him extensively again last season with probably the largest sire group calving this spring.

Here is a younger heifer that is not going to be outdone by her pen mates.
