EDITORS NOTE For a Leader in business, leadership has more to do with getting the job done. So, it becomes crucial to take important decisions with a lot of patience and research. Managing the team and putting the best people at the best place brings the best out of the team. When innovation and technology are the buzz the business leader takes the courage to implement it in the organization. As it gives a competitive edge over all the competitors and the companies. As the quote from Spiderman goes, “With great power comes great responsibility”. The leader represents the people in the business that is a big responsibility. The motive is serving people for good and making a difference in their lives.
eadership in other words means Power. A leader has a great influence on the people he/she leads, and the actions taken by him directly impacts the life of the people. Before we begin the editorial on leadership, who exactly is considered a leader? Let’s try to be reasonable and make justice by answering the question through this editorial.
L
Anyone who keeps others first and leads should be considered a leader. The one who supports motivates and is always ready to help others is a good leader. A leader can be anyone, just like the healthcare workers working to save lives in the tough times of pandemic. They took the stand to save humanity, risking their lives and can be called a leader. Our parents who work day in day out for us, sacrificing their own dreams to fulfill ours are leaders. In the same way, there are leaders in society who are always there for people in times of need.
Leadership is a calling too. The very fact that you worry about being a good leader makes you already one. To the world, they may be a leader, but to us they are Hero. It is the act of a leader to awake creativity and knowledge in the business and society. The involvement with the team members in the company brings the best out of the employees. As Benjamin Franklin righty quotes “Tell me and I Forget, teach me and I Remember, involve me and I Learn”. Leaders can change the world, examples are Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk. They involve in the ever-learning process of innovation as there is always something to improve. The best part of being a leader is holding the power to mold the team and build a knowledge-based society. Although the position is challenging but success tastes sweeter when earned. And failure is a part of it. With such ability to bring the change in the business or society Insights Success features such business leaders in its upcoming edition - The 10 Most Influential Business Leaders To Follow In 2022. Featuring its Cover is Jorge Daniel Grispo, Managing Partner at Estudio Grispo & Asociados | grispoabogados.com Jorge Daniel Grispois involved in the company since 1965.

Throughout his distinguished professional career, he has led multidisciplinary legal teams that support his clients' advancement and success in business by imparting a new understanding of their needs.
About Grispo Abogados Founded in 1985 by Dr. Grispo, Grispo Abogados performs intense professional work being one of the most recognized Argentine law firms nationally and internationally. The firm was a pioneer in the development of ISO quality standards for all the legal services it provides. Since 2004, it has had the ISO 9001 Certification granted by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). It allows the provision of its legal services to be systematized, improve operational efficiency, and increase the degree of satisfaction of its clients since the objectives are established by evaluating their needs under the highest quality standards. It currently has a remarkable team of highly specialized professionals. It focuses on the restructuring of liabilities (insolvencies and bankruptcies), corporate solutions for SMEs and Large Companies, and as well as corporate problems. The growth of Grispo Abogados has been driven by the strengths of its client service, especially its acumen in problem-solving and its ability to put the interests of clients first. Its mission is to be a relevant Law Firm that serves national and international clients in a wide range of legal matters, maintaining a unique culture focused on teamwork, a collaborative work environment, and strong professional ethics.
Becoming an Author The passion for law, its study, and teaching were the main engines that mobilized Dr. Grispo’s career. Up to the present moment, he has published 47 books and
search in solving its clients' problems is the main goal that the firm pursues in its day-to-day.
An Elite-Clientele Base Grispo Abogados' clients are Large Companies, Communication Media such as Television Channels, Medical Institutions, Hotels, Retail Brands, and industries of various fields. In all cases, the main loyalty factor of their client portfolio is based on understanding their needs and providing excellent legal solutions on time. It maintains a personal, permanent, and fluid communication that allows it to make the necessary adjustments and updates in a world that changes almost daily. We are "fans" of our clients and we jealously guard their rights.
Overcoming Challenges Successfully Challenges are all part and parcel of the journey. The main challenges Grispo Abogados faced throughout more than three decades of professional experience were several. Regardless of the setbacks, it has highlighted it maintains excellence in the provision of its legal services and full-time dedication to the needs of its clients. At the same time, Grispo Abogados has stayed up-to-date with not only the subject of law but also with the competencies of each client depending on their field. A situation in Dr. Grispo's case led him to take a Master in Business Administration with various training courses. The second challenge that it highlights is that of maintaining a team of excellent professionals, not only recruiting them but keeping them, accompanying them in their professional development and the growth of their careers. We have the same commitment that we put towards the attention of our clients to our lawyers, who are the main base of our daily work. We are a demanding law firm, but at the same time give a lot to all its members. 11
Customer-Centric to the Core Grispo Abogados is a long-standing firm known for its excellence and top-notch services. The professional prestige it has achieved is of being recognized as one of the main and most serious law firms. The credit goes to its policy of thinking long-term, always putting the needs of its clients first. As Dr. Grispo said before, we are "fans" of our clients and give everything to them. The firm has developed the ability to understand their needs, but it also understands that, as lawyers, it must find the legal path to take them to the place where clients want to be. We are not a law firm that has a "can't do" policy. For us, it is very important, always within the framework of the law, to find the appropriate and valid legal path to meet the objectives of our clients. Also, Dr. Grispo’s favorite quote is a phrase from Aristotle: We are what we do every day. So excellence is not an act but a habit. He abides by this quote and follows it in his life.
Embrace the Golden Rule of Giving Back Dr. Grispo believes that it is essential to think in terms of serving society, where the company develops its activities. A great example of this is companies like AMAZON or Appel that understand the need to contribute to society by giving back a part of their profits in many ways. Each company is a world apart, with its own needs, strengths, and weaknesses, but in all cases, social responsibility his a determining factor for success. Which, on the other hand, is an aspect Recalling the First Challenge highly valued by the new generations of young people.

office at 7:30 a.m. and work continuously until 5:00 p.m. Work meetings with the various staff teams, review of issues, legal strategy meetings, case analysis meetings, etc. We work permanently as a team, and all the members of the same participate in the meetings, each one contributes their own and together we give the best to the client. At 5:00 p.m. I hang up my lawyer's suit -except in exceptional cases where it was okay to take care of some urgent issue- and I dress like a tennis player, which is one of my passions, I train two hours a day and I frequently compete on the national tennis circuit. I also have painted as a hobby, in which I am self-taught, but I have developed a modest ability that allows me to produce good paintings. They best occupy the walls of our offices. Reading and studying are also an important part of my daily work, which ends around 11 pm.
Wisdom from Great Books Dr. Grispo is an ardent reader. He reckons that he can't point out a favorite book, since he is a regular reader and each book he reads brings him something significant. Barak Obama's A Promised Land is a fundamental book for understanding part of recent history. The Urgent Republic of Sebrelli and Guyot is also a book that allows everyone to understand part of what is happening in Argentina, a country that is currently going through a complex situation. Like An Argentine Story by Jorge Fernández Díaz, the work of Machiavelli has fascinated Dr. Grispo by the reading of Discourses on the first decade of Tito Livio, a work of essential reading. The same can be said of Pierre Hador's book The Inner Citadel, an important philosophical work. There are many more noteworthy works but the above is an example of his all-time favorites from his diverse reading choices.

Kelli Maxwell Ember Marketing Group | founder
16
S
ince Kelli Maxwell was little, she knew that she wanted to be her own boss, but she wasn’t sure how. “Defiant” is what the adults that raised Kelli would describe her as. She comes from a Montana ranch family with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. She worked for a financial firm for ten years and in that time, she worked her way into the position of marketing director. She also discovered that she had a talent and love for marketing, but insurance is boring and old-school advertising methods like newspaper and local tv were on their way out. Kelli didn’t feel fulfilled. It was during this time that she created her first company, Ever After Events, A Princess Party company, where Kelli and her team would dress up as popular princess characters and perform at birthday parties and events. This is where Kelli’s gift for working with people and creating authentic content blossomed. She started taking on several freelance clients and decided to quit her full-time job and make the leap to starting her agency. So, Kelli founded Ember Marketing Group, which specializes in Authentic Brand Amplification. Creating videos and content tailored to each client, the agency handles all aspects of digital marketing from content creation to ads, copy, and PR. In the last year, Kelli founded another brand of her business, Ember Marketing the Group. This organization is designed for start-ups and small businesses with no marketing budget. A subscription-based private group, it provides knowledge, tips, and action items to market start-ups as well as one on one monthly strategy sessions with each member.
Helping Clients to Grow According to Kelli, Ember Marketing Group works with clients from every industry. From custom epoxy floors to home builders to realtors to gyms to pharmacies and coffee companies and more. Kelli takes pride in working with PEOPLE. She sees first-hand that so many agencies just offer cookie-cutter marketing packages and create generic industry-related content,
without even getting to know their clients. Ember Marketing Group focuses on spending so much time with its clients that Kelli and her team can authentically market them and their company through videos, photos, captions, and copy that is perfectly on brand for them. All of the marketing group’s packages are customized to each client’s specific needs and brand. The agency has continued to grow and expand along with services and platforms such as TikTok. Ember Marketing Group doesn’t believe in locking people into contracts; Kelli prefers to let her work speak for itself as proven by her track record. Once a client signs on with the company, they don’t leave, in fact most of her client base has been with her since the agency’s inception. The agency does an exceptional job going above and beyond for each client and positioning them as THE expert of what they do, through the content it produces for them. “ Photo by Niko Cordero Gallegos ”
Tackling Challenges Personally, Kelli’s biggest challenge was learning how to delegate and manage her time to ensure that it is spent doing what she is best at, which includes meeting with people, strategizing, and filming with her clients. She had to fill in the holes on the backend for bookkeeping, social media management, processes, and systems to grow. She currently has two independent contractors on her team and one full-time employee. As an agency, she found her biggest challenge was the huge disconnect between the established businesses that can afford 17
the video production and social media management they need and the start-ups who desperately need it but can’t afford it. Multiple times a week she has conversations with small businesses who have been taken advantage of by a salesman claiming to be a marketer or a cookie-cutter agency who overcharged and under-delivered. Kelli’s solution for serving these people at a price they can afford is Ember Marketing the Group. Along with her business partner Chareese Jorgensen, Kelli teaches members of the group basic content creation and marketing principals. She and her team assists them with creating their content, encouraging them through the process and strategizing with them, identifying the best methods to grow their business per their industry, at a small price point that they can afford.
When Going Gets Tough
generation. Kelli is also working on her first book and she can’t wait to debut that in the coming year.
Suggestions for Young Entrepreneurs Kelli says, “The hardest part of working with start-ups is when reality sets in. Everyone has brilliant dreams and ideas and when they finally take the leap and launch, they quickly find out it is a steep and gruelling climb just to break even. Make sure your personal relationships are strong, your time management is stronger and you have the fortitude to overcome the discouragement, dips, and hits that come with any start-up. Do your research and make sure your idea is viable for your audience and you have a strong chance of building a brand or company that can survive and generate revenue.”
Shortly after Kelli resigned from her previous job and started her agency, she went through a divorce. With suddenly no security net and no backup plan, Kelli burned through her savings and had to sell her house and move in with her best friend to survive. That friend along with her supportive community at the gym were instrumental in getting Kelli through that first year. She refused to give up and look for a job so it was do or die for Kelli. She gave that first year and a half everything she had to make it on her own and she is happy to report that in just three years she has purchased her first investment property, has plans to build a house this year, and has built a six-figure marketing agency that continues to grow. This came from a willingness to celebrate doing the hardest things in life and business and continuing to push forward despite the hardships.
Future Roadmap Kelli’s company continues to grow rapidly. She is most excited about continuing to expand her client base and team, growing Ember Marketing Group’s subscription group to help start-ups, and continuing to grow her brand as one of the best marketers of her 18

e often use the phrase “two steps forward, one step back” to depict the process of failure. But taking a step back after two steps forward does not have to be negative. Within those movements, there is still progress. The journey to success is rarely linear, so I believe it’s the individuals who know how to overcome roadblocks, setbacks, failure, and rejection that reach their highest potential and live the most fulfilling lives. When I am rejected or hear “no,” I take time to look at the resilience of successful people I know and admire for inspiration. In my current role, I have been fortunate to meet many influential and successful people. One of the individuals I enjoy working with the most is billionaire John Paul DeJoria. Something he says that has always resonated with me is that one of the keys to success is being prepared for rejection. “Throughout your career, you are going to run across rejection. You will knock on doors, and many will close on you. To be successful, you must remain as confident and enthusiastic on door No. 59 as you were on door No. 1. If you realize this is going to happen, the rejection won’t hit you so hard. It will help you be resilient!” - John Paul DeJoria Despite now being a multi-billionaire, John Paul’s route to success didn’t unfold in the streamlined way that most people probably expect. The co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems and founder of Patron Tequila had to work incredibly hard to get to where he is today. He lived an impoverished childhood, ended up homeless on two separate occasions as a young adult, and even spent time working as a door-to-door salesman and a janitor. It may be hard to believe, but one of the most profitable haircare companies in the world, started out being peddled from the trunk of John Paul’s car. John Paul DeJoria firmly believes that every ‘no’ allows you the opportunity to mold yourself into a success. When you utilize every experience as a lesson for growth, unearth a sharper and more resilient version of yourself. There are countless examples of iconic people who have achieved success by facing their failings and using them to harness determination and reach the top of their field.
3. Steven Spielberg “Failure is inevitable. Success is elusive.” - Steven Spielberg After being rejected twice by the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, Spielberg persisted on which resulted in him winning three Academy Awards and grossing more than $9 billion from the film industry.
4. Oprah Winfrey “There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.”- Oprah Winfrey After being fired from her first TV job as an anchor in Baltimore, Oprah is now one of the most recognized TV personalities in the world, a multi-billionaire thanks to hosting one of the most successful talk shows of all time, and now even owns her own TV channel.
5. J.K Rowling “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.” J.K Rowling Originally written as an escape from her depression, financial woes, and struggling as a single mother, Harry Potter was rejected countless times until one publisher decided to take a chance on her vision. J.K Rowling turned her initial story into a seven-book world-renowned series, which resulted in corresponding blockbuster movies and made her one of the wealthiest people in Britain.
8. Arianna Huffington “Failure is not the opposite of success; it’s part of success.” - Arianna Huffington After her second book was rejected a colossal 36 times before publication, Arianna Huffington went on to build The Huffington Post empire and write multiple New York Times Best Sellers. 21

to heed the lessons of failure.” - Bill Gates
“I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.” Steve Jobs
After dropping out of the highly acclaimed Harvard University, Bill Gates launched his first company Traf-O-Data, which ended in a colossal failure. Undeterred, a few years later, he began Microsoft and, as they say, the rest is history.
Contrary to the above examples, Steve Jobs started out incredibly successful in his 20’s when Apple evolved into a lucrative technology enterprise. However, when he was 30, the board of directors decided to fire him from his own company. Undeterred, Steve Jobs founded a new company, NeXT, which Apple eventually acquired. Once back within the realms of Apple HQ, Jobs demonstrated his capacity for greatness by reinventing the company’s image and taking the Apple brand to new heights. He co-created the Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, and iPad before sadly dying at age 56 with a reported net worth of $7 billion and being hailed as one of the most influential business people of our time. 10. Bill Gates “It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important
Bill Gates is now one of the wealthiest and most successful individuals in the business world. I am the Director of Fundraising for one of the most successful ocean conservation organizations globally, and my view of the word “no” helps me raise more money. Contrary to popular belief, “no” should be viewed as the start of the negotiation, not the end of it. You can turn a negative into a positive if you use their resistance as an opportunity to slow down, analyze the situation, and determine what they really want. This will highlight the real issues and redirect the conversation as needed. Often, the individuals who say no at first ultimately provide a higher level of support because we were able to align their specific passion and desire for change with a direct mission we have for protecting the ocean. “Every no gets me closer to a yes.” - Mark Cuban By being prepared for rejection and using your determination to face those adversities head-on, you will set yourself up for a more assured road to success. Failure isn’t and shouldn’t spell the end – it is an opportunity to reevaluate, reassess, and return wiser, stronger, and better positioned for your eventual success.

ROBERTO GILARDINO Horizons | Regional Partner 24

M
eet Roberto Gilardino, the Regional Partner of Horizons Corporate Advisory is a unique advisory Firm with 30 operatives’ country’ law firms. The Firm provides international highly specialized legal and tax solutions that allow organizations to thrive in today’s complex transnational corporate environment. Roberto oversees the organization’s transnational operations from the head office of Horizons situated at the heart of downtown Shanghai. The team's skillsets rest in corporate issues and property safeguard and liaise day-to-day with Horizons' regional offices to serve as the advisory's global gateway. Roberto’s background and skillsets lie in international business and corporate law with special attention on corporate government, strategy, and shareholder protection. With a deep sense of cross-cultural issues in cross-border transactions and corporate matters, both Roberto and his team provide clients with unique insights and strategies related to the difficult-to-read, often behind-thescenes, nuances in transnational business. Before joining Horizons, he served professionally in ministries, governmental bodies, and the private sector, primarily in China. Roberto is an Italian national, he is fluent in Italian, English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Addressing Corporate Challenges Roberto and his team at Horizons provide turnkey legal, tax, and financial solutions to comprehensively safeguard cross-border investments. Horizons’ professionals in more than 30 jurisdictions worldwide serve clients by addressing international
corporate challenges through a local, national, and international lens. As a result, investments are comprehensively compliant with all the laws that it geographically touches and clients have full control of their cross-border investments, despite geographical distance and cultural differences. Most of Horizons’ clients are international companies or corporate groups. The Firm’s employees identify themselves as client-centric professionals. Instead of the same traditional listening- executing-invoicing, Roberto and his team engage clients by building long-term trust and identifying their corporate challenges through delving deep into their business operations. Through this approach, the Firm uncovers the intangibles to formulate solutions that fit these unprecedented times. Equally, Horizons value the unique strength of collaboration. The team brings a broad range of experiences. With such diverse perspectives and know-how, the Firm tackles solutions from multifaced perspectives which are highly attuned to the ever-changing business landscape.
“
If you greatly desire something, have the guts to stake everything on obtaining it. Come what may, be always a kind spirit!
Tackling Primary Challenges Roberto believes, the challenge for many corporate advisories is navigating clients through multiple 25
jurisdictions in this evolving world. With the rapid globalization, many businesses not only need to stay abreast of legal, tax, and accounting changes but also need to understand the various cultural and language gaps to thrive in unfamiliar jurisdictions. As a result, Horizons Corporate Advisory has positioned itself to not simply practice law. Rather the team understands real-world challenges, is committed to conveying legal doctrine with clarity and accessibility and is sensitive to the language and culture of the client. Through this manner, Horizons’ team opens dialogues, drills down challenging corporate problems and ultimately safeguards the client for the present and future.
Making the Industry Balanced and Equal According to Roberto, diversity and inclusion are the two hot topics across the industries. While various studies have shown that diverse teams outperform in the fourth quartile by 36% in profitability, the consultancy field, such as legal firms, often remain behind in cultivating diverse teams and inclusive workplaces. Specifically, progression from entry-level roles to seniority in minorities and females remains relatively low in the legal field, resulting in a lack of senior management who understand and address the specific challenges faced by such professionals. Ultimately, lack of diversity at the senior level can lead to inadequate access to mentors and training designated to minority or female professionals. Horizons ensure career opportunities and mentorships are formulated to match and develop each talent without unconscious bias. In this manner, the Firm strives to go beyond the surface and integrate individuals' unique strengths to cultivate a multifaced and multidimensional team that can serve clients from all walks of life.
Suggestions for Female Entrepreneurs and Lawyers Roberto says, “The legal world has advanced from the traditional patriarchal industry. Increased visibility of women in law has spearheaded practises such as work-life balance and transparency in
gender pay gaps. For young women entering the legal world today, there are more options to improve work flexibility.” He also thinks Covid-19 has accelerated agile working practices which align with out-of-work responsibilities including raising families. Aspiring women lawyers should not be intimidated by the specific challenges faced by women in a predominantly male-dominated profession. Rather seek opportunities and firms that support female leadership and work-life balance. Roberto adds, “At Horizons, we encourage our female professionals to speak at events to increase the visibility of women in the legal field. In this manner, we can play an active role in changing the perception of what lawyers are perceived to be and aspire more females to progress into senior roles.” Future Roadmap With a massive experience of more than 40 years in advising both inbound and outbound China investment, the Firm has witnessed the rapid economic growth and changing legal landscape in China. Today, under the leadership of Roberto, the Firm is increasingly assisting consumer goods and high-tech companies to establish entities in China. The growth of technology and the middle-class market around China has generated a huge appetite for foreign companies to seize opportunities. Whilst many manufacturing plants in traditional sectors such as retail are moving operations to South Asian countries or Eastern Europe. Therefore, the foreign direct investments ('FDI') in China are swiftly evolving, and China is no longer the low-cost labour and manufacturing country. Rather, FDI in China shall align with national policy, namely the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021- 2025) for National Economic and Social Development Through 2035 published on March 12, 2021. As a result, Horizons is assisting clients in implementing a new playbook that correlates with national strategy and the domestic market. And excited to play a substantial role in shaping the corporate structure for new clients entering the China market.
