MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings Princess Anne Family. I am delighted to present this Annual Report for the Club’s 2021-2022 fiscal year, spanning October 1, 2021 - September 30, 2022. The pages that follow detail activity and accomplishments across the Club.

The past year has been, in a word, busy! We continued to see increased Club usage through all departments. We welcomed 58 new families before placing a freeze on membership in December 2021. As I write this message, your Club is at capacity with more than 90 folks on the waiting list.

After investing more than $5,000,000 in your Club through the PACC 20/20 & Beyond plan, the initiation fees for new Members were increased twice over the past year with the initiation fees for Full membership now at $40,000.

While Treasurer Shuler will provide detailed financial information on the next few pages, I will say that the increase in club usage, elevated membership levels and raised initiation fees have been helpful to the Club’s bottom line. I can assure you that your Club is currently financially stable and your Board, Finance Committee and Operations Team have dedicated numerous hours this past year to building financial forecasts to strategically lead your Club through the next ten years.

Like many businesses, this past year your Club faced challenges with receiving goods in a timely manner, inflation in cost of goods and wages, as well as reduced staffing levels. While some of these items have started to settle, we believe they will remain core areas of focus in the coming year.

Also in the coming year, we look forward to continuing work on the PACC 20/20 & Beyond plan to include a refresh of the Linkhorn Lounge, a new golf simulator and improvements to the tennis locker rooms and pro shop.

As the Princess Anne Family continues to evolve, we also continue to enhance our Member communication efforts. This past year, the “Princess Anne Living” newsletter went digital and we launched a Member text service. In the coming month, we’ll also launch a private Facebook group where we’ll post Club updates and Members can engage with one another outside of the Club.

It has been a pleasure to serve as your President this past year, a task I could not have accomplished without the hard work of our Operations Team. The Club leadership team of Bill Shonk, Mardy Colling, Jenn Garrott, Cathie Havrilesky, Matt Liebler, Jordan Spitler, John Fraser, Andrea Pettay, Brian Triolet, Kristen Bunting, Monica Au, Geoff Benson, Steve Layden, Taylor Nelson and Karen Husselbee are unmatched in their dedication and talent.

I would also like to thank our outgoing Board Members who have served your Club the past three years: Michael Cowan, Barbara Sessoms and Roger Stroud. I cannot thank you enough for your support of your Club.

In closing, I thank you for allowing me to serve as your Club President over the past year. The Princess Anne is thriving and I look forward to another successful year ahead.

TREASURER’S REPORT

I am pleased to present this report to summarize the highlights of our Club’s financial operations for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2022.

Net cash flow before capital expenditures and replacement and aspirational reserve funding for the year totalled $1,712,758. These results were ahead of the budget of $1,512,751, but well short of last year’s $3,202,778 bottom line. The net cash flow from operations exceeded the previous year’s performance, however, last year’s employee retention tax credits

along with initiation fee revenues accounted for the significant year to year variance. Fiscal year end cash equalled $4,514,774 with $2,523,791 of that protected in the capital reserve fund account. Our auditors, BDO, should complete their examination of our financial statements in November. While the information included in this report is preliminary, we do not anticipate any significant changes to the information as presented and the auditors are satisfied with the Club’s internal controls currently in place.

As Treasurer, I’ve encouraged our Board to focus a

keen attention on the balance sheet and capital ledger. While the operations ledger is important, private clubs are so capital laden, and a fortified capital ledger can differentiate and strategically position the Club for the future. Your Club funded $1,093,920 in capital improvements this year. $557,313 was for replacement capital like golf and fitness equipment, carpeting, large heating and cooling units and more. The remainder was final aquatics complex expenses and other costs for the PACC 20/20 & Beyond Plan approved by the Membership in 2019. As promised

in my report last year, EFI Global completed their update to the property condition reserve study that they performed nearly eight years ago and their recommendations have been integrated into strategic capital replacement plans that look ten years forward.

Over the past twenty years, the Princess Anne Membership Family has invested nearly $30 million into major replacement and aspirational capital with funding derived from our monthly capital fee, 2003 and 2007 assessments, initiation fees and bank loans. While the consolidated financial results table on the next page reports strong results and the balance sheet reflects $4.5 million in cash, I wish to emphasize that it also shows nearly $10.5 million in bank loan debt. We were fortunate to lower our interest rate through a modification last year and it is imperative that we aggressively attack this debt while continuing to reinvest in our wonderful facilities.

I remain committed, along with the Board and Management Team, to operate your Club under a sustainable financial model that utilizes capital investments to enhance the Member experience, grow the Princess Anne’s value and retain devoted Members. Rising wage and product cost pressures coupled with the Membership cap plan that reduces Membership levels certainly tested our budget calculations, but I am pleased to report that the Board of Directors recently approved a 2022 – 2023

year operations budget that ideally addresses these inflation challenges.

I am inspired by the faithful support of existing

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE

As I began my tenure as Entertainment Chair, we were finally beginning to operate as “normal.” The PACC favorite Oyster Roast did not disappoint. It was the largest gathering since its inception. From that moment on, every event was sold to capacity and the traditions continued. From Thanksgiving through the three days of Traditional Christmas with Singing Santa, the Clubhouse was in full swing and event attendance exceeded expectations. As we rolled into spring, we unveiled the Committee’s brainchild, the Spring Soiree. The West Lawn was decorated in detail with allwhite furniture and decor, from loungers to a full-circle bar and festive white lanterns hanging above. Members and guests donned their white attire making for a stunning scene. This was a spectacular event that will soon become a tradition.

We held the Second Annual Achievable Dream Summer Open Tennis Tournament and it was again a huge success in raising critical funds for the Achievable Dream. We hope that this event will continue annually and we are excited to be able to give back to the community in this way!

Our “Gunga Gulunga” party, which tied into the Member-Guest Golf Tournament, was a new twist on this fan favorite event. Caddyshack-themed attire was encouraged and many of you did not disappoint!

As our Member-Member Golf Tournament is always held at the end of summer, it was easy to host our first “End of Summer Party” on the pool deck. The Princess Anne Team did an amazing job decorating and it was a beautiful night that was rocked by the band Kaboombox. We are hoping for more events on the pool deck for the 2023 season, so stay tuned.

Grillin’ & Chillin was in full force this season with a variety of music for all tastes. We ended the season with our very own house band, DogJaw. What a night! There was plenty of dancing and it was great to see so many show up for the end of this seasons band series.

As we look to the upcoming year, we are eager to add new creative events to our calendar. The Committee is dedicated to bringing new ideas to the table to make our PACC events memorable and engaging. We look forward to an amazing year of festivities ahead!

FITNESS COMMITTEE

The Lifestyles Fitness & Wellness Center (LFWC) has been in full-swing this year with an especially busy summer and increased Member utilization.

We are fortunate to have such a wonderful asset like the LFWC providing our Membership with a high-quality fitness experience. We continue to improve the equipment and facility in an effort to give our Membership a top notch experience. Please note all the upgrades that we have requested for this year. Due to supply chain issues you can see a lot of what we had planned for this year is yet to arrive, but please know that all is ordered and scheduled to arrive this year. Upgrades this year included:

• Group Fitness Room Flooring

• Lobby Flooring (installation coming soon!)

• Upgraded Precor Stretch Trainer

• Upgraded 3-tier Dumbbell Rack (coming soon!)

• Upgraded Spin bikes (coming soon!)

Club leadership will remain focused on improving the facility and its offerings so that our Membership will continue to enjoy a high-level fitness and wellness experience.

Next year we anticipate many exciting upgrades, including:

• Massage Room Addition

• Upgraded Main Workout Area Flooring

• Main Floor Functional Training System

• Squat Rack

• Improved Strategic Storage Solutions on Main Floor and Group Fitness Room

The Committee was encouraged to see Member engagement and support for the fitness center as expressed in the membership satisfaction survey. In response to the survey, we are in the process of implementing the following improvements:

• New group fitness classes and added times throughout the day and evening; better advertisement of fitness classes and information about the instructors.

• Facility upgrades to freshen and modernize the look and feel of the space, and continually upgraded equipment.

• Better communication regarding our trainer and instructor continuing education. Additional training and continuing education opportunities to make sure your fitness & wellness Team remains the best of the best.

• Planning and promoting an expanded fitness facility, while utilizing the current facility to the best of its capacity.

We continue to invest in our fitness & wellness Team in order to bring you the best possible experience while attracting and maintaining top talent. The Team was fortunate to be able to get back to traveling for top-rated continuing education and trade show events including:

• IHRSA (International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association) Conference & Trade Show

• Functional Training Institute

• Perform Better Summit

A special thank you to Andrea and her fitness Team. As we all know, getting employees anywhere is hard! Andrea and Liz do a great job of selecting Fitness Attendants. It is an area where you do not see a lot of turn over. The fitness center continues to be well staffed. A special thanks to the committed professionals we have operating and conducting our classes and to this year’s Committee: Alice Striffler, Catherine Earp, Kathleen Martin and Tommy Rueger, for all their support. This will be my last report as the chairman of the Fitness Committee and it has been an absolute pleasure to serve.

GOLF COMMITTEE

My tenure as your Golf Committee Chairman has provided me with an up-close look at the rapid evolution of the game of golf. While exciting to see record numbers of golfers and course utilization, we continue to look at ways to manage the obstacles presented by increased play. The Golf Operations Team continued to navigate many challenges in 2022, most notably tee time availability and pace of play. The 206 new Members since March of 2019 coupled with increased play among long-time Members equated to less tee time availability and slower rounds of golf. A simple review of course usage in fiscal year 2022 amply illustrates the current popularity of the game. Golf rounds played reached 27,610 in 2022 compared to 29,427 in 2021 and 26,500 in 2020. The trend of walking versus riding continues to remain high with 65% of our rounds being walkers.

In response to tee time availability shortages, the Committee implemented several new policies to help combat frustrations. Weekend tee times between 8am and 11am on Saturdays and Sundays from May 1 –September 30 were required to play in a threesome or foursome. A weekend blitz was created to afford single golfers the opportunity to play during these peak times. The addition of a starter helped manage this new policy.

While still a work in progress, the policy afforded more golfers the opportunity to get on the course during peak days and times. The addition of a marshal Friday through Sunday also helped to manage play. The Committee continues to look for ways to improve these areas and Member feedback does not get overlooked.

Golf programming continued in popularity, as we had consistently strong participation again in both the Princess Anne Ladies’ Golf Association (PALG) and Princess Anne Senior Men’s Golf Association (PASMGA).

Mixed pairs golf picked up a lot of momentum in 2022 thanks to several logistical improvements. The Thursday Night Men’s Golf League continued its growth in participation for the third year in a row, growing to 76 players. Our junior golf program continues to be one without peer.

In 2022, we were finally able to return to a full event schedule with many events reaching full capacity again, including both the Men’s Member-Guest and MemberMember. The 2022 James G. Parke Men’s Member-Guest had 94 teams register in the first minute of sign-ups. For the second year in a row, we expanded the field from 48 to 72 teams. This year’s event did not disappoint!

Jono Dahl and his guest Tyler Ostein played two great days of golf to claim the championship. I also want to congratulate Mr. Mike Hays on his victory in this year’s Richard D. Cooke Men’s Club Championship. Mike claimed his 10th club championship spanning six different decades. Truly an amazing feat. The 2021 Vincent G. Thomas Men’s Member–Member was another one for the books with 50 teams taking part. Congratulations to our champions Brad Shoemaker and Jared Anderson for their victory and two great rounds of golf. The golf, food and beverage, course maintenance Teams and our Tournament Chair Mike Disharoon all, once again, collectively rose to the occasion.

The Princess Anne Lady Golfers enjoyed a successful 2022 with many new faces participating. Under the leadership of PALG Chair Alice Striffler, we averaged 29 players for the Tuesday play days, an increase of three lady golfers per event. We proudly added 12 new golfers to this year’s association! Alice was again joined by Julie Holland (vice-chair), Marcy Sims (secretary) and Anne Gorry (treasurer) to comprise the PALG Board. As Alice’s two-year term as PALG Chair ends, on behalf of the PALG and the Golf Committee, we greatly appreciate Alice’s leadership and dedication to the Princess Anne.

ANNUAL REPORT | 202211
ANNUAL REPORT | 2022 3 12

I want to extend my congratulations to Alice Striffler for also claiming her first Ladies Club Championship. Alice defeated Aven Oliver in a tight final match. Congratulations are also in order for Marty Field and Vicki Devine for claiming the 2022 Leo V. Kernan Ladies Member-Member title. The Martha Macklin Smith Ladies Member-Guest had great participation with 72 players competing and the team of Vicki Devine, Evie Odom, Doris Addenbrook and Shirley Wecht claiming victory.

The PASMGA had another extremely successful season, maintaining strong participation at an average of 40 players for their Wednesday rounds. The PASMGA continues to enjoy its success thanks to the leadership of its Board lead by John Mazach (president), David Durham, (vice president), Mike Clark (secretary) and Jim Gregory (treasurer).

Congratulations to the 2022 PASMGA Member-Member Champions Bill Fairchild and Tom Hyman who outlasted a tough field of 20 teams to claim the title. The PASMGA thrives on the camaraderie enjoyed each week, which has proven to be a great venue for Members meeting and is truly one of the more social groups at the Club.

with Mama Birdie providing instruction to 24 kids. Our golf professionals added an Elite Junior Golf Academy to the fold in 2022. The new program was met with very positive feedback and strong participation. With these numbers, the future of PACC golf continues to look bright.

The PACC golf team was excited to host the Fifth Annual Els for Autism Pro-Am Invitational in October 2021. This year’s event reached the milestone of one million dollars raised for the event beneficiaries, the Els for Autism Foundation, Virginia Autism Foundation, Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (FACT) and SEAL Kids.

I would like to thank those who served on the Golf Committee. You all are generous with your time and ideas, and your love for golf here at the Princess Anne is evident. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated. One of the most important efforts the Golf Committee continued to concentrate on was the Handicap sub-committee made up of Mark Finn, Jeanie Beck, Bob Buckalew, John Gibson and Alice Striffler. This Committee continues to roll up their sleeves and address a difficult, but necessary, task. Thank you all.

and guests of the Princess Anne the best experience possible continues to be successful and has not gone unnoticed. The Associate Golf Professionals Taylor Ratliff, Ryan Rogers, Keith Cooper and Jackie Schmidt have fit in nicely and continue to grow in their roles. Director of Instruction Davis Whitmer continued to provide world class golf instruction which contributed to the Team’s success growing the instruction program tremendously. The golf pro shop continues to provide the Members a shopping experience as good as any in the state of Virginia thanks to operations Team Members Suzanne Bielat, Steven Harper and Drew Callen.

In closing, as your Golf Committee Chairman, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Matt Liebler and the entire Golf Operations Team for their hard work, dedication and support over the past three years. Each day presented a new challenge and, while not easy, our Team handled it with class. We should be proud of the excellent Team that has been assembled here at the Princess Anne. We certainly look forward to watching them continue to flourish in 2023 and beyond.

The junior golf program at the Princess Anne continues to grow each year. The Beach Junior League was very popular again this year with 45 juniors fielding two teams that finished second and third for the second year in a row. Operation 36 also continues to be a popular junior program with 74 juniors playing. Birdie Basics, possibly our most fun junior program, was a hit again this year

The Golf Operations Team continued to excel under the leadership of Head Golf Professional Matt Liebler. The golf industry is changing rapidly and our Team has been up to the challenge. It is evident that the entire golf Team has bought into the service-centric culture instituted by the Team leadership. The approach of providing the Members

ANNUAL REPORT | 202213

In November 2021, we all found ourselves coming out of a “rough” couple of years. Given this opportunity to lead our PACC Green Committee, I realized I had a lot to learn, and learn I (we) have. The Green Committee is thriving as the veteran committee Members are led by our now, well-seasoned, Director of Golf Course Maintenance and Club Grounds Jordan Spitler. Jordan and I hit the ground running last fall. We sat down and pin pointed several areas around the course that could be improved to not only give our players/ Members a better golfing experience but also to create a better course that will, in time, be a showcase we all can be proud of.

Beginning in November 2021, we introduced deep tine aeration to the green complexes. This process, along with other practices, has rendered our greens the best they have been in years. Fast and healthy, throughout a very busy playing season. We can now, in late September, see that these practices were and are a success. Dryjecting was also a new treatment to the greens where hydrated sand is forced into the green complexes. Along with the normal fall pruning, Jordan evaluated drawings, site plans and other materials used in the Tim Liddy course design, to meticulously map out and reestablish tee box, fairway and green boundaries, as over time they had become undefined. This is a detailed action that takes time and patience, not to mention an eye for detail. These detail elements are paying dividends on the ground as well as in the sight lines created by Jordan’s Team with continued pruning (i.e. 7 & 11). Many plantings around the course have been preserved and moved to screen as well as enhance certain areas. Other such areas, like the pool and club grounds, including the Bungalow, are also realizing improvement with attention to proper plantings and maintenance practices implemented by Jordan and Horticulturist Erin Courrier.

As we moved into the new 2022 season, Jordan and I were excited to introduce to the Committee the thoughts we drilled down on in the fall. Welcome “Tee Box Renovation.” This process of reengineering the teeing grounds will involve some re-design, drainage implementation and turf selection to allow us to create a “rooted teeing area” that, in short, is more durable and will allow for better recovery under high use. After choosing the right company, Double Eagle, that specializes in this type of work, the project was designed and created, presented and approved by the Board, and will begin in January 2023. Many parts and materials have already been procured.

During a fairly mild winter we were able to continue work around the course. We were made abundantly and continuously aware of bunker conditions. The comments were taken seriously and by early summer we saw conditions improve. The Team will continue to achieve the best results in our Better Billy Bunker System by maintaining the proper sand type and levels as well as daily hand raking as the budget permits. We still, as with the greens, need our playing Membership to take ownership also, and give attention to these and all other areas of the course. Topping the priority list was giving attention to the bunkering on #’s 15, 18, & 6. We made a decision to call in Tim Liddy and his top shaper Dave Axland. The intention of the Tim Liddy team was to create a native area in each of these locations. It was evident when we were in the heat of the summer and the growing season that we would have to go back to the drawing board, and that we did. It was determined by the PACC Team and Tim Liddy to simplify these areas. This fall action will begin to change these areas to more “formalized sand areas.” During the 2022 winter/spring we evaluated and ran design and cost projections to improve the range netting/ fencing and put into motion the re-positioning of the fencing on the west end of the driving range teeing area. A plan was put into place and action is being taken this autumn and winter.

GREEN COMMITTEE Submitted

ANNUAL REPORT | 2022 3 14

By spring time, comfort stations (water and ice machines) were ordered for holes four and 15, height of ruff considered for the upcoming months, sod put into place (to include the Bungalow), and seasonal course applications considered. Things only got busier as Liddy’s team reshaped bunkers, the slope on 15 green was sodded, bathrooms spruced up, tees sodded, pine straw added (applied to entire course in one day, instant gratification), new equipment arrived, greens conditioned and aerified/ Dryjected, and the first spring cut took place. All of this while maintaining the budget in a climate of soaring prices. With the stars lining up the course was ready for summer play, and it was/is spectacular.

Winding up the 2022 season with sights on 2023, we are excited to begin the tee renovation project along with other new projects that are necessary to preserve our course. As we move forward, the Green Committee will continue to maintain good acumen in regards to our cherished Princess Anne Country Club and her grounds. We will work to be the BEST by balancing our wants and needs, evaluating practices and listening to our Members, striving to create a showcase facility with responsible vision, and using time as an asset, not a liability. Speaking for the Green Committee, Jordan Spitler and his Team, I want to sincerely thank the Princess Anne Country Club for entrusting her grounds to us.

HOUSE COMMITTEE

The Club was very busy rebounding from the COVID cancellations and many changes to normal Club operations. The Chesapeake and Linkhorn dining rooms continued to exceed Member expectations and Chef Benson and his crew have strived to deliver a variety in menu by offering different chef specials every week. Membership desired more new options on the menus and as a result the Chef is providing a seasonal change of menus.

The pool opened robustly and never stopped until Labor Day. This posed a few operational problems that the Committee addressed in hopes of smoothing out the wrinkles before the 2023 season. The pizza oven was delivering great pizzas as the season peaked and the Breakers Team is hoping for a successful to-go option over the winter.

Back ordered carpet finally arrived and was installed in the Men’s Lounge, Ballroom, Prince Charles, and First Landing. The new furniture that was ordered for Breakers had not arrived before my year of serving as your Chairman ended, but I know that it will greatly improve the appearance and enhance the overall experience in Breakers.

The House Committee has continued in their efforts to be the ear of the Membership and relay and facilitate changes that are desired. One big change was the elimination of the à la carte service charge so that each Member has an opportunity to directly reward their server for their outstanding service. This has been a conversation for many years within the House Committee and we feel it will be a successful transition and help with the retention of superior Team Members and less confusion for our Membership.

It has always been a joy and an honor to serve my Club and I know that I leave it in good hands. Thank you for letting me lead this Committee and I look forward to the upcoming year at the Princess Anne Country Club.

MEMBERSHIP ID COMMITTEE

ANNUAL REPORT | 202217

When I joined the Membership ID Committee, our objective was to identify potential members that would uphold the good character of the Club and then encourage them to apply. While that is still our ultimate objective, it proved challenging when a membership freeze was implemented on all membership categories in December 2021. Our Committee pivoted and spent much of the past year researching best practices and making recommendations to the Board of Directors on Membership rules and policies, most surrounding the Club’s waiting list.

The Club had not enjoyed the advantage of being on a waiting list for some time and there was no official rule in place for management of a Club waiting list. The Membership ID Committee provided input for setting the new “two-bucket” waiting list policy. As the policy provides priority to legacy applicants, the Committee proposed a consolidation of the Club’s definition of a legacy to children, parents, and grandparents. We were afraid the inclusion of siblings, nieces, and nephews was too broad of a definition as the waiting list continued to grow.

We also supported the Board’s decision to update the leave of absence policy to require Members on a leave to continue payment of the monthly capital fee with the understanding that the fee is dedicated to the future investment of the Club when they reactivate their membership.

In April 2022, the Board of Directors voted to raise the initiation fee and remove the deferred payment option for Members 40 years of age or older. The Membership ID Committee had in depth discussions with an impressive amount of data compiled by Membership Director Karen Husselbee to provide a recommendation to the Board prior to that vote. With a growing waiting list and increasing initiation fees, the Committee also recommended removing the corporate discount incentive. This incentive was a great asset when our objective was encouraging prospects to consider applying, but our current waiting list ensures we do not need to offer that discount to the initiation fee.

doubled our goal of 25 new families, which we conservatively set knowing that membership was approaching capacity. Of those new Members, we are excited that seven dependent legacies joined under their own membership when they either turned 30 years old or got married.

Despite the membership freeze over a portion of the Club year, we welcomed 58 new families to the Princess Anne from October 2021-September 2022. That number more than

In January, the Princess Anne was fortunate to welcome Karen Husselbee as our new membership director. Karen has brought a great deal of respect, eagerness and organization to a position entwined with being the welcoming face of the Princess Anne while also being the bearer of bad news as to one’s current position on the waiting list. Her position was just beginning to evolve as she began and has only continued to evolve since. We are fortunate to have her as we all work through this interesting time of membership freezes, waiting lists and membership cap adjustments. Our Committee looks forward to next year and welcoming some of the 90+ families currently on the waiting list to the Princess Anne Family when space becomes available.

The Membership Committee is committed to ensuring the Princess Anne is comprised of families who uphold the values of our Club and position us for future success. The Club continues to see unprecedented interest in membership, which resulted in a club waiting list that we have not had for many years.

December 2021, a membership freeze was enacted and a waiting list policy was implemented. After months of careful consideration and the completion and analysis of

Submitted by Chair Sam Steingold

an in-depth membership satisfaction survey, in August, the Board of Directors voted to reset the membership cap at 740 for resident full/athletic Members and 160 for non-resident full Members, and continue the membership freeze on all social memberships. At the end of our fiscal year, the club has a waiting list of 90+ people.

The Membership Committee was also busy researching and recommending rules and policy changes to the Board

reflect the current state of the Club. The approved rules

include:

• Redefining the definition of a legacy

• Removal of the corporate discount

• Updating the waiting list policy to provide preference for legacy applicants and current Members wishing to upgrade

• Updating the leave of absence policy which now requires Members on a leave to pay monthly capital fees

• Removal of deferred payment options on initiation fees for anyone over the age of 40

• Initiation fee increases in April 2022

With all of the changes and the strong interest in the Club, we are pleased to report that we are ending this year with a Membership of 1198 families, 29 more than our beginning roster of 1169.

We welcomed 55 new families to the Princess Anne and welcomed back three families through reinstatements. We are also pleased to report that we greatly surpassed our $400,000 initiation fee budget with $552,716 collected.

The Club’s Under 40 Membership Program continues to thrive with 25 of our 58 new Members joining under this membership classification. Unfortunately, while many new Members joined the Princess Anne family this year, we said goodbye to 42 families.

As we move into 2023, the Committee will continue to thoroughly vet all membership applications and welcome new Members as space becomes available.

POOL COMMITTEE
Submitted by Chair Dave Poteran
ANNUAL REPORT | 202221

Truly amazing is how most of us would describe this past summer at the new PACC aquatics center. We had an extremely strong kick-off to the first full season with our First Annual Spring Splash on Sunday, March 27. The water was a balmy 58 degrees but that didn’t stop Members, both young and old, from diving, jumping and splashing around on a chilly day, only to be welcomed by warm towels and hot drinks courtesy of Mardy Colling and her Team.

From there, the brand-new heater was cranked up and Brian Triolet and his Team got the entire pool to a comfortable 83 degrees and ready for the upcoming season within 24 hours. In early spring, all Members took advantage of the beautiful new complex with a schedule of water aerobics, lap swimming in the morning, and going for a quick dip after a good workout, tennis match or round of golf.

Rolling right into summer, the Breakers Swim Team started practice in mid-May led by returning Head Coach Bryan Rudolph, coaches Emma and Brynn, and, new to the Team, Chris. Katie also returned to coach a record number of divers. The swim team also had the most swimmers signed up in over a decade with 130 kids from all age groups. Similar to last year, the coaches did another amazing job getting the kids engaged and psyched to leave the competition in our wake! It was nice to finally host several swim meets at home and the feedback from other clubs was nothing but great. Parents, coaches and swimmers from other teams raved about the layout, setup and all the amenities that our aquatics center has to offer. It was not only the other clubs raving about the new pool and aquatics center, but the sheer amount of Members on the pool deck day after day spoke for itself. Whether they were hanging out with their kids in the zero-entry splash area, sunning themselves in a lounge chair or chilling in the shade of the cabana bar, everyone flocked to the pool to enjoy the company of friends and family. All summer, the pool became the destination for birthday parties under the pergolas, evening get togethers for dinner and drinks and a place to relax, decompress and enjoy resort-like living.

As we close out a memorable 2022 summer season at the pool, I encourage you to reach out to one of the Pool Committee Members to share your thoughts. In addition, with the PACC Membership at its cap, I would also ask that you encourage friends to consider joining the PACC Breakers swim and dive teams for the 2023 season. Enjoy your fall, winter and spring seasons. We’ll see you back for another epic summer in 2023 to take full advantage of the amazing aquatics complex once again.

TENNIS COMMITTEE

Our PACC tennis and pickleball operation experienced unprecedented growth this past year with so many new players taking to the courts. We hired three new professionals, two tennis and one pickleball, for an amazing Team of nine total.

The Team lineup this year is as follows: Director of Tennis John Fraser, who is in his 18th year, Head Tennis Pro Andy Hinkle, who is in his 30th year, Tennis Professional Martin Black, who is in his 8th year, Tennis Professional Arnold Pence, who is in his 20th year, Tennis Professional and Shop Manager Dajana Cvjetkovic, and Tennis Professionals Lorenzo Sison and Joyce Fields, who were just added to the Team. Our new Pickleball Professional’s name is Alek Grzegorzewski. Our Tennis Maintenance Director Jeff Partin, has been with us for 30 years and we have four Shop Attendants Rachel, Hayley, Alli and Kylie. We had some major repairs this past year such as the blower motor that keeps the bubble inflated, a new AC unit for the proshop, a new compressor for the indoor courts, and the whole tennis building’s roof pressure washed. Speaking of the bubble, ours is nearing the end of it’s shelf life so we are going to purchase a new one to be installed next year.

Court reservations have grown dramatically with many new players. It was a fun year with record attendance at our events and socials. The Singles Club Championship had more than 100 entries this year and the Doubles Club Championship had 60 teams.

In April, more than $50K was raised for the Children’s Hospital of King’s Daughters (CHKD) during the CHKD Open Mixed Doubles tournament. The event sold out within a few hours with 64 teams filling every division and teams on the waiting list. Entering its second year, the PACC Summer Open Doubles tournament raised its prize money from $2,500 to $10,000, which saw some of the country’s most elite men’s doubles teams face off for amazing tennis while raising money to support An Achievable Dream. We are thrilled that this event raised more than $20,000 again this year and cannot wait to see what next year brings.

The highlight of the year was definitely winning the Ladies Spindle Cup event at CCV in Richmond for the sixth time in ten years in a dominating performance. Our ladies were ahead 13 wins to eight for the second place team. We were also victorious with our men at the Senior Tidewater Cup, which we also won very convincingly, for the first time since 2012. The local USTA leagues also started back up this past spring, many of which had teams from PACC.

ANNUAL REPORT | 201723 ANNUAL REPORT | 2022 17

Our junior tennis development program continued to offer daily after school programs as well as summer camps with over 150 kids participating including many young, new faces.

The PACC Tennis Shop continues to provide high quality merchandise at internet matching prices and has, by far, the best selection in the area. This shop is stringing headquarters for players from all over the area who like to have their racquets done by our certified stringers on cutting edge machines.

Over the past three months the pickleball program has added in two new clinics a week and an instructorled round robin. Alek is teaching an average of four private lessons a week and growing. There have been two successful pickleball social events; one in August and the second in September. Pickleball has also held a kids clinic with the help of Taylor, the youth programs manager, with another one planned again in November.

In addition to the kids clinic, there is a glow in the dark event planned with both tennis and Pickleball. There will

also be a Member- Member tournament in late November. We will be having our first inter-club event for pickleball with Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club in November as well.

I would like to thank our tennis Team, Tennis Committee and the entire Princess Anne Family for an amazing year.

YOUTH COMMITTEE

The Princess Anne youth program has grown in many exciting new ways this year! We have seen an influx of new Members with young children and the Youth Committee, along with Taylor Nelson and his Team, have been innovative in our approach to add exciting new events, keeping the youth program fresh and fun. One example is meeting the ever-growing demand for babysitting by adding Saturday night babysitting! It has been a huge hit among parents and fills up every week.

This fall, the Fall Festival was a hit with s’mores, fire pits and the always fun tractor-pulled hayride around the golf course. Our Children’s Halloween is always a favorite, as kids walk through the Club to get candy and see the spooky decorations. The children also enjoyed pumpkin decorating on Breakers Boulevard. This fall we added an etiquette class, taught by Linda Dyer. Thirty five attended and it was very popular! The kids had a sit-down meal and learned proper table manners as well as everyday etiquette. Another new event was our Family Bingo Night! It was a huge hit among families with a dinner buffet and prizes given out to the winners. This will be an annual event for years to come.

In the winter season, our beloved holiday events were back after being cancelled last year due to COVID. Families were delighted! The Polar Express Movie Night and Nutcracker Tea went off without a hitch. The kids enjoyed hot chocolate, treats, ringing their polar express bells and watching the Nutcracker dancers from Elevate Performing Arts.

The Reef, for youth grades 4+, has been frequented by teens as a space to do homework, watch sports and play games with their peers. The room has been a success and the teens are utilizing this space to call their own.

The summer months kicked off with our youth summer camps. To keep up with demand, we added five additional spaces to each camp and the camps sold out every week! The kids enjoyed swimming, golf and tennis during these week-long camps. Our week-long art camp was also fully booked, along with our Mermaid & Pirate Party at the pool. Our Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dances were both well attended this year and many kids exclaim these are their favorite events, year after year. We added a new babysitting class this summer where kids were taught how to babysit young children and also added two Parent’s Night Out events. Kids were dropped off for a night of crafts, swimming and a movie while parents got to enjoy a date night. This fall we had our Fourth Annual Camp Out Night on the golf course with a record number of attendees. The kids love this event that offers fishing, s’mores, games and a yummy breakfast! Our babysitting room continues to be a success, with hours available six days a week. Parents can grab dinner in the Chesapeake room or enjoy a game of tennis or golf, it offers a welcome reprieve.

The youth program at the Princess Anne and the Team behind it is top notch, always coming up with innovative ideas to keep youth involved and events fresh. They put their heart and hard work into everything they do, and let no obstacle get in their way. It has been an honor to work alongside them in making our Club the best it can be for our youngest Members. I am proud of everything we have accomplished this year and cannot wait to tackle 2023!

WINE

As we complete yet another great year of wine sales at PACC, the data reveals once again the preferences of our Membership. The big takeaway: our Members are Chardonnay drinkers! Chardonnay was the top seller by a long shot in total number of bottles and was also tied for first in terms of sales dollars. Cabernet Sauvignon was the co-winner in sales volume but fell far lower in terms of bottle quantity. This trend of our Membership mirrors the national trends very closely and has been a buying pattern here at the Club. Pinot Noir is holding a strong third with sales coming in about ½ of the leading two wine varietals. Bubbles made a strong statement this year which also seems to be a national trend. At Wine Committee, we spend a great deal of time finding those special wines that fall within your buying window. Our total sales continue to grow as our Membership now realizes our pricing is great and the convenience of pulling up out front is hard to beat.

The growing season this year was a tricky one for many domestically. Napa and Sonoma had a nice season, but got hit with two severe heat spikes late in the growing season when grapes are most sensitive. In Europe they were not so lucky, as severe heat pounded many vineyards across the EU with rapid ripening and crop loss a real factor at harvest. The white grapes in the US were mostly picked before the second spike, and those that didn’t paid a price. The reds were slightly different in that the spikes came before the reds were picked so cooler sites were spared, while hot sites suffered crop loss and raisination. We will watch this to see the effect on wines for the 22 vintage. It tends to be more site specific.

In summary, we had another great Wine year at the PACC. The heat spikes didn’t bother us, we have AC! The program is still growing and we love the service we provide.

Cheers!
