MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

LOA Rule Change (Changes are notated in green.) II. MEMBERSHIP CLASSIFICATIONS AND FACILITIES PRIVILEGES J. Leave of Absence During times of hardship, a Member may request one leave of absence, for a term of up to one year, within any given tenyear period. Payment of dues and existing comprehensive athletic or tennis supplements will not be required during the Leave of Absence. However, the Member shall be responsible for payment of their monthly capital fee for their pertinent class of membership. If the Member has a locker, the locker will be forfeited when the Member goes on Leave of Absence. Approval of a Leave of Absence is contingent upon bringing one’s account current. All such requests must be submitted to the Board of Directors. A Member on a leave of absence may request a one-year extension of their leave. This request must be made in writing via an extension application form. The extension application form must be accompanied by a $75 application fee. If a Member elects to take a Leave of Absence and subsequently decides to reactivate their membership, if applicable, they will be required to pay any intervening assessments for the class of membership to which they are returning. If placed on the waiting list and a space becomes available, the member must activate their membership within 14 days or the membership will be resigned and subject to the Club’s reinstatement rule. If a Member on Leave of Absence is placed on the Waiting List to reactivate, the Member will be responsible for paying capital fees for their membership class while on the Waiting List.

Initiation Fee Increase As the Club has enhanced and expanded amenities, thus increasing the value of Princess Anne membership, the Board approved an increase to initiation fees. All increases will be effective November 1, 2023. The new initiation fee schedule is as follows: Resident Non-Resident • Full - $50,000 • Full - $34,000 • Full Under 40 - $35,000 • Social - $15,000 • Full Legacy Over 40 - $40,000 • Full Legacy Under 40 - $30,000 • Athletic - $34,000 • Social - $20,000

Dues & Capital Fee Increase On September 28, your Board of Directors approved the Club’s 2023-2024 operations budget. After careful consideration and an in-depth evaluation of our financial landscape, the Board approved an 8.7% increase in membership dues and supplements. This increase is essential to address inflation, increased wages and elevated operating expenses that have impacted gross operating revenue. Our primary goal is to ensure the continued sustainability of the Princess Anne, allowing us to provide the wide range of services and experiences that you have come to expect. Additionally, your Board approved a $25 increase to the monthly capital fee for all membership classes. The monthly capital fee is vital to funding the Club’s obligatory capital expenses such as the replacement of carpet, furniture, and maintenance equipment, as well as servicing the Club’s debt. You will see both of these increases on the statement you receive in early November 2023. Princess Anne Living | November/December 2023 10

MEMBERSHIP Social Freeze Temporarily Lifted Your Board continually evaluates Member usage and makes adjustments accordingly to ensure amenities and programs remain available for Member enjoyment. After a thorough review of Club usage over the past year, at their September meeting, your Board voted to temporarily lift the freeze on social membership, allowing 13 Members to join/re-join the Princess Anne Family. We welcome seven new Non-Resident Social Members and one Resident Social Member.

Master Plan Update As your Board continues to plan for the Club’s future, I am excited to announce the Club has embarked upon the next phase on master planning which will enable us to chart a clear course for the future of the Princess Anne ensuring that our facilities, amenities, and services remain aligned with the evolving preferences and needs of our valued Members and future Members. Club leadership has engaged architecture and design firm Cox, Kliewer and Company to spearhead master planning efforts. Additionally, a master planning committee has been established and additional partnerships with consultants specific to the private club industry are being forged to assist with this process. In addition to enhancements to Club facilities, your Board is looking strategically at the Club’s finances with the goal of eliminating the Club’s debt over the next five years. I must emphasize that a venture of this scale requires careful consideration and resources. While we are in the initial stages of planning, it is anticipated that the successful execution of our master plan will necessitate a financial investment from our Members. Rest assured, the Club's leadership is committed to transparency throughout this process. We will provide regular updates and opportunities for your input as we progress toward this exciting endeavor. In the coming months, you can expect to receive more information about the master planning process, including details about how you can contribute to shaping the future of the Princess Anne. Your insights, ideas, and enthusiasm will be instrumental in guiding us toward a successful outcome. Thank you for your continued commitment to the Princess Anne. We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey together and building an even brighter future for our Club.

Ladies Lounge Update The new carpet has been installed in the Ladies Lounge and we hope you love it as much as we do.

Fitness Center Renovations The Lifestyles Fitness & Wellness Center has an updated look and new equipment. The ceiling has been repaired and painted, new flooring in the main area has been installed along with exciting new equipment.

11. If I am putting off the green and notice that a fresh pitch mark off the green is in my line of play, should I: m a. Repair the pitch mark before I putt m b. Move my ball to the nearest point of relief m c. Putt my ball as it lies and consider it bad luck 1. The answer is c. For the other four holes see the answer to #3 2. The answer is b. For the other two holes see the answer to #3 3. The answer is b. For instance if your handicap is 18 and you only played 14 holes, you should record a bogey for each of the last four holes. If your handicap is zero, you should record par for each hole. 4. The answer is a. At PACC, hole #1 is the number 1 handicap hole; assuming that your handicap entitles you to 1 stroke, your maximum score is 7: calculate this way, par 4 + 2 strokes is double bogey (6) + 1 handicap stroke = 7. If you get 2 strokes, your maximum score is 8: par 4 + 2 strokes is double bogey (6) + 2 handicap strokes = 8. 5. The answer is c. You can download either the “USGA GHIN” app or the “My VSGA” app. In both apps, go to the Handicap Calculator, select the course and tees you are playing and your handicap will display. 6. The answer is d. 7. The answer is a. After three minutes the ball is deemed to be lost, even if you find it after three minutes and one second. The three minutes starts when the player and/or their caddy begins to search. If others start to search before this, the clock does not start until the player begins the search. 8. The answer is a. If the ball hits anything there is no penalty and the ball is played as it lies. Note that the rule is different if the ball was played from the putting green. 9. The answer is d. Answer 'a' is always a penalty. There are, however, a number of other situations when touching the sand is not a penalty. 10. The answer is c. If the ball is embedded in the ground, either in the rough or the fairway, the player is entitled to free relief. Relief is one club length from a point directly behind the place where the ball is embedded. Note that if the ball is in the rough and the one club length reaches the fairway, you may drop the ball in the fairway. 11. The answer is c. However, if the pitch mark had been on the green, it could be repaired. 12. The answer is b. There is no free relief from a boundary fence. Other than playing the ball as it lies, the only option is to declare the ball unplayable. This is a one-stroke penalty and has three options: play under stroke and distance, drop back keeping the place where the ball lies in line with the flag stick or drop within two club lengths of where the ball lies, no closer to the hole.

GOLF COURSE & GROUNDS UPDATE

Winter On The Golf Course

–Jordan Spitler, Director of Golf Course Maintenance and Club Grounds Winter is a time for our Team to keep improving the Club's property. Play is at its lowest point, the grass has slowed and the days are short. This allows us to focus on projects that will make long-term impacts on the property and Member experience. Along with improving the golf course, other necessary actions are taking place. Here is what we have to look forward to this winter. Frost Holds This is when the temperature reaches a cold enough point to freeze the moisture content within the plant. When damage occurs, the plant's interior cells burst, killing the plant. This is why, when we are on a frost hold, we ask that you try to stay off the turfgrass until it has time to thaw. To the left is a photo of damaged caused by geese which shows how little weight needs to be applied before damage is caused.

Drainage Work Drainage work is essential to our success; we will fail to have championship-level conditioning without proper drainage. We work on drainage yearly, and always try to find areas to improve the course, by adding additional drainage. Our priority this winter will be cart path areas and landing zones.

Tee Projects We will complete the remaining tees this November except for the #1 tee, which will be a part of the short game project in the fall of 2024.

Clearing Native Areas This is a year-long battle, but we can make a strong push while the turfgrass isn’t growing. We plan to continue to clear the areas we worked on last year, with some additional areas.

Have a safe and Happy Holidays!

FROM THE LINKS Tournament Results WINDHOLZ CHAMPIONSHIP Congratulations to our 2023 Champion, Mike Morgan! Our final match had plenty of action, with Mike Morgan and Bailey Allman being tied after 18 holes and needing an extra to decide who would be the champion. A clutch, long lag putt by Mike Morgan sealed the deal with a conceded par and Bailey narrowly missing a putt to tie. Congratulations to our finalists, Bailey Allman and Mike Morgan, for a wellfought match! MEN'S SUMMER LEAGUE The Men's Summer League concluded with a hard-fought victory from our 2023 champions, Daniel Hooper and Mike Disharoon! The runner-up team of Jim Kibler and George Faatz got off to a good start, halving each of the first two holes. Unfortunately, they would run into a buzzsaw as the dynamic duo of Hooper and Disharoon would win holes three through six, playing them four under par. That hot stretch would be enough for them to secure the victory and the title of 2023 Men's Summer League Champions. Congratulations to Daniel, Mike, and our runner-up team of George Faatz and Jim Kibler! VINCENT G. THOMSON MEN’S MEMBER-MEMBER The 2023 Vincent G. Thoams Men’s Member Guest was another exciting one, as we navigated the challenging weather to conclude this year’s event! Please join in congratulating our 2023 Champions, Brian Hill and Bill Kamarek, who outlasted the other 52 teams to claim the title. Bill and Brian’s net par on the 18th hole was enough to defeat the runner-up team of Ed Moyer and Dennis Casey. Our Champions Shootout of the six flight winners would excite the 75 members who watched the final. In the end, the team of Kamarek and Hill would prove to be too much for the rest of the field. Congratulations to our champions and flight winners, and thank you to all who participated and helped make this a tournament to remember. Overall Champions: Bill Kamarek and Brian Hill • Runners Up: Dennis Casey and Ed Moyer Third Place: Chris Horan and Allan Haynsworth • Fourth Place: Mike Disharoon and Daniel Hooper Fifth Place: Barry Purcell and Steve McCann • Sixth Place: Dan Beck and Jono Dahl EVIE ODOM INVITATIONAL Hosted by Old Dominion University Women’s Golf Team The 2023 Evie Odom Invitational wrapped up yesterday with an exciting finish. The three-round event concluded with the University of Central Florida holding off the field to claim the team title. With a solid first day and a tough second day, making things tighter at the top of the leaderboard, a team total of three over the final round would be just enough for a five-shot victory. ODU would come back with a great day two to get into the mix but would fall short of making the miraculous comeback. Puneet Bajwa, a freshman at ODU, would climb to the top of the leaderboard with rounds of 70, 68, and 67 to finish solo second. Sophomore Makenzie Cooper from Chattanooga would prove too much as she was the only player to finish all three rounds under par, 68,68,67 to prevail as the individual champion. A lot of great golf was played this weekend, highlighted by two Holes in One! In the final round, Emily Staples from Missouri would be the first to hole her tee shot on the 15th hole, and Nina Rissi from Notre Dame would make a hole-in-one on hole 9. A massive shoutout to our volunteers and membership for making this the best event possible. We truly could not have done this without your help. This was a special event because of your help and support.

2023 SANDRA B. STANDING HUSBAND WIFE We had a gorgeous day on the golf course for the 2023 Sandra B. Standing Husband Wife! A ton of great golf was played, and relationships were tested as we determined who would be the 2023 champion. In the end, the team of Angela and Jud Elliot would prove too much for the field to claim the title. Their twelve under par 58 took the trophy and a bottle of champagne to boot! Just on their heels were Evie and Hu Odom, whose eight under par would be good enough to finish runner-up. The team of Pat and Vicki Devine won the Gross Division at 7 over par. Congratulations to our winners, and a special thank you to everyone who participated.

FROM THE LINKS Tournament Results BEACH CUP The 2023 Beach Cup wrapped up yesterday with an exciting finish! Congratulations to our Princess Anne Ladies as they took down Cavalier in the Beach Cup for the second year in a row. Our ladies won the Triumvirate and the Beach Cup again this year!! Day one was held at Cavalier where Princess Anne jumped out to a 6-0 lead winning all six matches. Heading into day two, Princess Anne would need to win 4 matches to retain the cup. The first match out was our team captain Alice Striffler who led the team with an astounding victory of 8&7, with an early point our ladies fell into place the lead match with Karen Worrall, Jeanne Beck and the clinching point Babs Neff all winning early to close out the 2023 playing of the Beach Cup. A huge congratulations to our ladies who played and represented the Princess Anne. We are super proud! LADIES TRIUMVIRATE Congratulations to the 2023 Ladies Triumvirate Team for retaining the Triumvirate trophy! Our 11 lady golfers and Director of Golf, Matt Liebler, fought hard to keep the trophy at the Princess Anne for another year. The Triumvirate is an annual tri-match between Bayville, Cavalier, and Princess Anne. The Triumvirate team comprises the 11 lowest handicap players and a professional from each club. Bayville Golf Club was this year’s host, and the golf course proved to be a tough test with blustery winds and off-and-on rain for most of the day. Although challenging, our ladies held tough and would prevail, winning the Triumvirate for the second time and second year in a row. Congratulations to all of our ladies for a job well done, and a special thank you to our Triumvirate Captain, Jeanne Beck, for her organization and leadership. Princess Anne will host the 2024 Ladies Triumvirate as we look for a three-peat. LADIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP It was an exciting finish to another great event. Our final match between the number one seed, Alice Striffler, and the number three seed, Jeanne Beck, finished on the 19th hole. Alice Striffler jumped to an early two-up lead after winning holes one and five. That lead would dissipate quickly, with Jeanne turning the match around after winning three holes in a row. Jeanne would hold a one-up lead as the match headed into the back nine. Alice would win holes twelve and thirteen to tie the match where it would remain through the 18th green where both players made par to force extra holes. Two uncharacteristic shots from Jeanne would find the water, leading to a concession and a victory for Alice Striffler. It was another fantastic match between two great competitors. Please join us in congratulating our 2023 Louis H. Windholz Ladies Club Champion, Alice Striffler, for successfully defending her Club Championship title. INAUGURAL ONE-DAY MEMBER-GUEST Our inaugural One-Day Member Guest was an absolute blast. With almost a full field and picture-perfect weather great times were had by all. The golf course is immaculate, and the greens were rolling fast and true. There were a lot of low scores but, none better than Josh Parnell and his guest partner Conor McInturff shooting an impressive net best ball score of 12-under par, beating the rest of the field by 4 strokes. Below is our flight winners and link to the full leaderboard. Overall Champions: Josh Parnell/Conor McInturff (-12) • Flight 1: Kieth Smedley/Brian Holland (-7) Flight 2: Frank Stoneburner/Gary Glover (-6) • Flight 3: Gerrard Jones/Garrett Parker (-6) Flight 4: (Overall Champions) Josh Parnell/Conor McInturff • Flight 5: Bobby Beasley/Willie Wilcox (-4) MEN'S SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP We could not have asked for a better weekend for this tournament to be played. The weather and course conditions are perfect for match play. We had a great final match with top seed Mike Hays and second seed Bill McClanan competing for the title. Mike Hays was successful in defending his Senior Club Championship title by defeating Bill McClanan 4 & 3. A great match by great competitors. Congratulations to Mr. Mike Hays!

FROM THE LINKS Tournament Results LADIES SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP It was a beautiful fall day as the final match for the 2023 Euguene Lee Parker Ladies Senior Club Championship wrapped up. This final featured two of the Princess Anne's best and a rematch of last weeks club championship. After falling in the club championship final. Jeanne Beck would get revenge defeating Alice Striffler 3&1 and claim the title of Ladies Senior Club Champion!! Congratulations to our champion and runner up on a job well done. ELS FOR AUTISM It was a record-breaking two days at the Seventh Annual PACC Pro-Am to Benefit the Els for Autism Foundation. The Sunday night auction raised $40,000 more than last year’s event and featured an exhilarating demonstration by new event partner Frog Dog K9. Joining PACC honorary Member Ernie Els on Monday were PGA TOUR Champions players Tom Gillis, Stuart Appleby, Brett Quigley, and Frank Lickliter. Twenty-two teams competed for the pro-am champion title with the Atlantic Bay Mortgage team taking home the trophy for the second year in a row. While our PGA pros put up a good fight, dear PACC friend and long drive competitor Paul “Chewy” Howell took home the trophy for the pro flight. After two days of fun, just over $320,000 was raised to benefit the Els for Autism Foundation, Virginia Autism, Foundation, Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater and SEAL Kids, a record single-year fundraising number for the event. In its seven years, the pro-am has raised 1.6 million dollars.

Members In The News EVAN BECK Congratulations to Evan Beck, who punched his ticket to the 2023 U.S. Mid-Am finals. After close victories in the quarter and semi-finals, Evan would go on to play the World’s #1 ranked amateur Stuart Hagestad in a much-anticipated final. After getting down five early, Evan would mount a heroic comeback that would fall just short of claiming the title. Evan would fall three and two in the 36-hole final match. Although not the finish Evan hoped for, a runner-up finish in the US Mid-Am is a significant accomplishment and one we are very proud of. Evan’s fantastic summer continued after his showing in the Mid-Am. Not only did he top his former Princess Anne course record of 59 (by shooting a fantastic round of 58), but Evan was the medalist at the Crum Cup at Pine Valley. The Crump Cup is one of the top mid-amateur events in the country. Evan would go on to finish third in the event. Congrats on a great summer, Evan! ROGER NEWSOM Congratulations to Roger Newsome, who also excelled nationally, making it to the semi-finals of the U.S. Senior Amateur played at Martis Camp in Truckee, California. Roger’s steady play in the stroke play qualifying portion of the event was good enough to secure the number six seed in match play. After cruising through his first few matches, Roger would run into a buzzsaw in his semi-final match, losing to eventual champion Todd White two and one. Congrats on an extraordinary showing, Roger! Roger started the season with a bang as he claimed victory in the 2023 George L. Coleman Invitational hosted by Seminole Golf Club. The Coleman is regarded as the top Mid-Am Invitational in the country. Newsom's final round of 70 claimed the title in the senior division, leaving himself the only player under par. Roger's final round pairing was with Mike McCoy, who will captain this year's Walker Cup Team and is known as one of the top senior amateurs in the country. Newsom stated in a postround interview, “Because I’m an eye surgeon, I’m a true amateur, and I don’t mean that in a pejorative way. I don’t play every day, I didn’t play for two weeks before coming here, so this is very special for me.” Adding to the special moment was Virginia amateur legend and Seminole member Vinny Giles, who first congratulated Dr. Newsom after coming off the 18th green.

FROM THE LINKS Members In The News MIKE HAYS We congratulate our very own Michael Hays for securing the lone qualifying spot at Two Rivers Country Club. Mike shot 68 to put him two ahead of the field and claim medalist honors in the USGA Senior Am Qualifier. Mr. Hays' life goal has been to play in a USGA event. In 1977 he started that goal, and after the qualifier, he was elated to finally qualify for the USGA event. The 68th U.S. Senior Am was played August 26 - August 31 at Martis Camp in Truckee, California. After the first two days of stroke play qualifying, Mike found himself one off the number, missing the match play portion of the event by a mere one-stroke. Congrats on a job well done, Mike!

FROM THE COURTS John's Tip of the Month LEARNING A NEW SERVING DRILL You’ve all heard about the service motion being a kinetic chain from the ground up with the wrist snap being the last and most important link in the chain before contact. The arm acts like a double accelerator as it comes up to the contact point with a “throwing” motion which is mostly arm and shoulder followed by the wrist snap which is the 2nd accelerator and the one that delivers the biggest punch. A good drill to emphasize this all-important part of the serve is to stand on top of the net and practice spiking the ball straight down to where the ball bounces on the other side of the net and over the fence. Once you can do that on command drop back to the service line and continue to serve it into the opposing service box using only the wrist snap, no swing so that the arm is still up in the air not far from the contact point. You’ll notice the snap timing is a little different from that distance. Once you have that down move back to the 60 foot line and take some reps there before moving all the way back to the baseline.
